msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Thursday, July 9, 2026. Today, Judge Kaplan has ordered the release of the 5 million DOL plus interest to E. Jean Carroll. Over Donald's objections, Trump unexpectedly sidelined the Cuttery bribe Force one jet. A court has ordered Donald's name to stay off the Kennedy center as the case proceeds. Judge Hannah Dugan was sentenced to no jail time and a $5,000 fine. Texas Senate candidate and state Attorney General Ken Paxton probably committed voter fraud. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is demanding proof of life from Senator McConnell. And a mother who claimed vaccines killed her children has been charged with their murders. I'm Alison Gill.
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Lots of different kinds of news going on today.
I was gonna say some of it sounds like a tabloid and some of it's obviously not. it is wild news day. Ken Paxton. I mean, that's just the start of it. I don't know if you saw this, but some people saw him in London with what appears to be his mistress.
Yeah. On the 4th of July celebrating Independence Day, Right?
Am I right? Independence Day,
great look. Great look. Almost. Almost as great as when a ton of senators went to Russia for the Fourth of July in 2017.
Yeah. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
Yeah, for sure. All right, so the latest in Maine is that they're having a ton of meetings and zoom calls. Platner is supposed to give a video statement on his disposition Wednesday night, and it hasn't happened yet. It's after 4pm it's after 7pm Eastern time right now. And I still haven't seen that video. I'll keep periodically checking throughout the recording. But Devin Murphy Anderson, the executive director of the Maine Democratic Party, said the party's frustrated with Platner's continued efforts to manipulate the process. He keeps trying to inject himself into this situation, saying he's contacted them multiple times. Now, as we reported yesterday, the two top scenarios they're considering because the main Democratic Party is doing this. I know a lot of people think the DNC is doing it or the DSCC or the dccc. No, it's. First of all, the DCCC doesn't have anything to do with the Senate. But regardless of that, it's the main Democratic Party that's doing this. And there are two things that they're considering right now are a pop up convention of hundreds of party delegates or a statewide caucus. But those two options would actually exclude the unenrolled voters that got to vote in this primary. There are about 19,000 of them, 75% of them asked for Democratic ballots, which accounts for about 9% of the votes for Democrats. Andre LaFlamme, who we've had on this show, has suggested maybe they just run the ranked choice. Voting again, without platinum seems like the most democratic process. But that would leave out candidates that didn't run. Like, there's a couple of failed, gubernatorial primary candidates that want to try to run for this seat. But when I talked to Andrea, she was like, yeah, but they didn't run for the Senate because they chose to run for governor, so why should they get to run for the Senate now?
Yeah, I guess.
I mean, I don't know. It's just. I know it's a clusterfuck. Some not. There's no way to make everybody happy here.
I know. And if you just would stop assaulting women, I think maybe we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. It led.
That would be the best course forward.
Yeah, that would be the. That'd be a place to start. a little bit of good news. This is from the Times. The Times is reporting that in Milwaukee courtroom last year, Judge Hannah Dugan drew the ire of the Trump administration when she was accused of helping an undocumented immigrant evade federal agents by letting him out the door next to the exit that was right next to the door. In a Milwaukee courtroom on Wednesday, Ms. Dugan, a, judge, no longer, unfortunately, was fined $5,000, but spared PR months after a federal jury convicted her of obstructing those agents.
Yeah, and she is still appealing this, and we'll see how that goes. But Judge, Edelman, no time in jail, they, said sentenced her to zero time, so at least there's that. And she's also working on keeping her pension. I think she gets to keep her pension, so not a total loss here, but again, she's still appealing this. All right, we have a ton of news to get to today. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, from the Associated Press, the writer Eugene Carroll can collect $5.8 million held in escrow since a jury found that Trump sexually abused and defamed her. According to a federal judge on Wednesday, Trump's lawyers immediately asked the court to block the payment while they appeal. The President has already deposited the money into an account. It's in escrow. The judge is releasing it. The US Supreme Court recently let the 2023 civil verdict stand, clearing the way for Judge Lewis Kaplan, no relation to Eugene's lawyer, Robbie Kaplan, to the initial $5 million award has grown with interest. The jury found Trump attacked Carol in 96 in the dressing room of a luxury Manhattan department store called a Bergdorf Goodman and then defamed her, as she described it publicly in a 2019 memoir. During his first term as president, Trump called her allegations false and said, she's not my type. In an interview, Trump's attorney said Wednesday they would continue to appeal and accused his political opponents of using the legal system against him. The Supreme Court shut you down, dude.
Y.
You appointed three of those people.
Those are not your opponents. Those are literally your allies. Yes.
Now they want the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals to stop this payment. Carol's lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. I don't think he's going to have a choice here. I think the money's going to go out of the escrow account and right over to our friend Eugene. And I'm very happy for her.
I am, too. I think so, as well. All right, this is from the post of Federal appeals court held on Wednesday that Trump's name will stay off of the Kennedy Center's branding and building while litigation continues. A three judge panel for the U.S. court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit denied a motion to stay from a Justice Department lawyer who has argued that removing Trump's name would hurt the center's fundraising efforts and further its financial decline.
You're really going to hurt our slush fund fraud efforts, Your Honor.
This is a quote. Appellants, however, have failed to support this assertion with any specific facts or evidence. That's what the judge said. You can't just say shit and not back it up. They also cast doubt on the center's novel argument about the Trump Kennedy center for the Performing Arts foundation, which is a new entity, and that's in quotes that the center says would have to return millions in raised funds if Trump's name were removed. And I quote, appellants never raised that factual contention in District Court, and they have given no explanation for failing to do so. Again, this is from the judge. The panel, by the way, consisted of Judges Patricia Millett and Robert Wilkins, appointed by President Barack Obama, and Gregory Katzis, appointed by Trump. The decision follows an order by U.S. district Judge Christopher Cooper that Trump's name be removed from the building and marketing materials. Now, the center's board, led by Trump, had voted in December to add his name to the center. But Cooper wrote that federal law is, and I quote, crystal clear that the center is named for Kennedy and that only Congress can change it. Cooper also temporarily halted plans to close the building for two years of renovations while allowing the repairs to proceed. After the courts declined to immediately pause the ruling, the Kennedy center removed Trump's name and covered it with a tarp so no one could see it with. Just ridiculous. The center has remained open, by the way, but sparsely attended as staffers await news from the board about its potential closure.
Who puts their name on someone else's memorial?
You know who does that?
Oh, my God. That's just so skeevy.
It is. He's gross.
He's gross. All right, next up from the Texas Tribune, two weeks before this year's primary election, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the creation of a tip line for the public to report people or groups suspected of voter fraud. They look like they're voter frauding. Like what? Anyway, quote, free and fair elections are a cornerstone of a thriving republic. And with the authority granted to my office by the legislature, we will stop at nothing to uncover and stop any illegal voting activity. That's what Paxton said in a February news release announcing the tip line. Have a look in the mirror, buddy.
Yep.
Calls coming from inside the house m.
The announcement linked to guidance from his office about election laws in Texas, which included a requirement to be a U.S. citizen, a, prohibition on collecting mail ballots on behalf of others, and a warning that it is illegal to misrepresent your residence on election records or to establish a residence for the purpose of influencing the outcome of an election. That seems like clear verbiage to me.
I would agree.
That Ken Paxton sent out, you must register to vote using the address where you reside. The guidance also said that that despite his own warnings, Paxton appears to have used an address where he did not live while voting in six elections in the past two years, including in May's runoff that made him the Republican nominee for senator. That's according to records obtained by ProPublica and the Texas Tribune. State Senator Angela Paxton said in a 2025 divorce filing that Paxton, whom she accuses of adultery. Biblical shit. Moved out of their Collin county home a year earlier. This is why he didn't want the divorce records released. But Paxton continues to list the home's address in northern Dallas suburb on his voter registration. Angela Paxton declined to be interviewed. A source close to the Paxtons said the attorney general has not moved back into the home since leaving, and he's probably not gonna be welcome there anymore, either. And it's unclear where Paxton has been living for the past two years. What do you wanna bet it's with,
yeah, the lady he was in London with.
But he's using his old ex wife's address. Well, I mean, they're still going through a divorce for voting purposes so he could vote for himself. That's even extra fucked up. By the way. Angela Paxton declined to be interviewed like I said, but reporting by ProPublica and the Tribune has linked him to a home in a neighboring Denton County.
since February, three election lawyers told the news organizations that Paxton may have violated the same Texas laws his office cautioned about in its news release. ProPublica and the Tribune reached out to Paxton's campaign on June 3rd, 15th and the 25th, asking why he remained registered to vote in Collin county, where he appeared to no longer live, and about his connections to Denton County. Who's that? Who lives in Denton county that you're staying at? A reporter also left a voicemail on his personal cell phone. On June 25, the news organization sent his government office and campaign staff email. both emails on Monday with a detailed list of questions including a request for Paxton's response to election lawyers belief that he may be violating the law. Paxton in his office did not reply until Monday's email. Campaign spokesperson Madison Searcy did not answer the questions. His spokesperson's name is Searcy. That's a little Game of thrones intrigue for me. Did not answer the questions of the news organizations. Instead she issued a statement saying that the Attorney General has been a national leader on election integrity with a long record of defending Texas elections, attempting to insinuate otherwise and tear him down with a baseless lie filled tabloid story is not real report.
I love the M report. She's saying that like he hasn't already been in trouble for shit and impeached by his own party and like he's a fine upstanding citizen cited for. This is insane. This is a good, honest man. Except all of those times he was not an honest man.
Now, asked twice to provide specifics about what they believed was inaccurate in their lie filled tabloid story, they didn't respond. Now, voting in an election where the voter is ineligible is a second degree felony under Texas law. It's punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. But prosecutors rarely bring cases challenging individual voters residency claims because they're really hard to prove, according to election lawyers.
Please do not elect this man governor of Texas. Just don't, just don't do it. Senator. Governor. What is he running for?
Senate.
Senate. Senate. Please do not. I mean it's him against fucking Talarico. Are we kidding here? Okay, this is from the time. Speaking of very good governors, Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky sent a letter to Senator Mitch McConnell on Wednesday demanding that he update his constituents on his health as rumors swirl about the Republican senator's condition after his hospitalization last month. Mr. McConnell, 84, has been in the hospital since June 14, when medics were called to his Washington address to respond to report of an unconscious individual. A, worker later informed his supervisor over emergency radio that CPR was in progress. Mr. McConnell's staff members have not disclosed what prompted his hospitalization or what treatment he's receiving. On Tuesday, several Republicans said that they had spoken to Mr. M. McConnell for exactly 20 minutes, every single one of them. In the letter to Mr. McConnell, who is planning to retire at the end of the term in January, Mr. Beshear, an amazing Democrat, wrote that Kentucky residents, and I quote, had grown increasingly concerned over the state of your health and well being and the ability to hold office. I mean, I think they were probably concerned about that before he was hospitalized, but whatever. He continued in the letter, as public office holders, we have made a commitment to our constituents to represent them and to always be transparent. I believe this requires clear communication about one's ability to serve. Mr. Bashir is a second term governor in a state largely loyal to President Trump. He has been an ascendant in the Democratic Party and is widely expected to run for president in 2028. This decision I happen to support. Mr. McConnell's absence has also renewed scrutiny over a 2021 Kentucky law that changed how a U.S. senate vacancy can be filled with rather than allow the governor free reign. To choose a successor, DeLoss, as a temporary appointee, must be chosen from A list of 3 people selected by the state executive committee of the absent senator's political party.
M. Okay.
A special election would be held to fill the seat only for the remainder of the year if the vacancy happened more than three months before the next election. When's the cutoff date for that?
That's the kicker right there, isn't it?
Yeah.
Where they're sitting on a dead man until three months before this election. I swear to God, I would not
be shocked if the day after the deadline, all of a sudden they do
like four days later to make it not so weird. They'll do it as maybe as long as they can till things start to smell.
I don't know, to literally start to smell. Mr. Brashear vetoed that change, saying it, and I Quote, improperly and unconstitutionally restricts the governor's power to fill vacancies. But the Republican led legislature overrode the veto and there has not yet been a test of that change. It is a very interesting state to watch that Andy Brashear continues to win as governor. But it's fucking red.
They love him, but it's so red. They have overturning. They can overturn vetoes. That's how red that legislature is.
Yep.
Because in, you know, every other state, the governor picks somebody.
Yeah.
But wants a Democrat one. The legislature passed a law that says, no, the governor can't do it now. Now it's gotta be a, you know, a special group of Republicans and
not for no reason. They knew Mitch McConnell was getting up there in age. They knew he was getting up there in age. Of course they passed this law. by the way, if we lose that guy, you don't get to, you don't get to replace him.
We got a blue governor, we got an old ass senator. We need to make sure to change the law and take power away from the governor. Anyway, I'm very interested to see what happens right around 90 days before the election.
Yeah, no kidding.
Which is that cutoff time. All right, next up from NBC, an Idaho woman. Get this, this Idaho woman claimed that vaccines killed her 18 month old twins.
Dana, this story infuriated me on so many levels.
I know. well, she was charged last week with two counts of first degree murder. According to an indictment obtained by NBC, the toddler's mother, Andrea Shaw, is accused of suffocating them. In May of 2025, a grand jury in Payette county determined that there is sufficient evidence to charge her. Anti vaccine groups have held up the deaths of Shah's twins as an example of what they see as the harms of vaccines. Shah is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that Children's Health Defense, an anti vaccine organization that RFK Jr. Founded before becoming health secretary. I can't believe that sentence exists.
I know.
She's the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit brought against the American Academy of Pediatrics challenging its vaccine recommendations. Shah appeared in a video on the Children's Health Defense website last year to discuss her twins deaths. The conversation was recorded less than a week after the children had died, after she had murdered them, allegedly, suffocated them. Children's Health Defense didn't respond to requests for comment, but its president, Mary Holland said in a video released Sunday that the group stands by Shaw and her family. Quote, the state is absolutely acting. I Believe recklessly by indicting this woman. That's what she said. Kennedy ceased his work with Children's Health Defense before joining the Trump administration. The Department of Health and Human Services did not respond to a request for calm comment. Shaw's criminal defense lawyer, Joe Filicetti. I, hope I'm pronouncing that properly. Told NBC News she plans to plead not guilty, saying there's zero evidence to support the charges. There is actually some evidence because a grand jury indicted her. Shaw was arrested five days after she gave birth to a new baby. Oh, my God. And has not been able to breastfeed her newborn. Oh, she shouldn't be anywhere near that newborn. no, just a bizarre. What?
Infuriating. But I hate that. I'm not surprised.
What's the motive? Did she. That all this is alleged, Obviously.
Right.
She hasn't, gone to trial yet, but did she murder her babies for a totally different reason? If she did and then say it was vaccines, or did she do it so she could say it was a vaccine? I mean, clearly if she did this, there's something not right in her head, obviously. But I'm really interested to see when this trial starts, what these details are.
Yeah. All right, thank you, Alison from Reuters. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he was leaving Turkey aboard an older Air Force One aircraft rather than a recently renovated Qatari donated jet. This is an unexpected switch that renewed scrutiny of the costly, fast tracked retrofit put on.
Put on social media.
My ride episode that he wasn't able
to actually film, I was like, is it full of algae? What happened?
Maybe the trip to Turkey, the first international travel for the new plane took place as hostilities escalated with Iran in a country, as we know, that borders Turkey. The switch follows months of scrutiny over the luxury gift intended to serve as a temporary replacement, while Boeing struggles to deliver long delayed next generation Air Force One planes. You guys can rush those if you want to. I mean, I'm, It's, you know what I mean? Like, get them as planes now. Critics question the cost.
Have Bowen put the doors on.
That's it. I mean, come on, get some duct tape. Let's go. Critics question the cost, security and pace of the retrofit. Trump said on True Social that he would use an older Air Force One plane for old times sake to fly to RAF Milden hall in Britain, while the new plane stops at the same base so US Service members stationed there can tour the aircraft. Trump said the plane was traveling to two or three big bases in Europe before returning to the United States in a quote, so the soldiers can see it because it's truly magnificent.
Sure.
Sure, bud.
Yeah. That's why he switched planes. And not because it doesn't have the proper retrofit.
Yeah, exactly. Democratic lawmakers estimated the conversion cost more than a billion dollars in race security risks. The upgrades were completed so quickly that some experts expressed concern that the plane may not be secure as the existing Air Force One aircraft again. Okay, the Air Force fast track of effort to ready the jet skips some planned modifications originally envisioned for the next generation presidential aircraft in order to deliver an interim version sooner. I want it now. All right. Veruca, Salt. Calm the fuck down. You'll get your jet in a little while.
Somebody take him out back and have him juiced, please. Oh, my God. Like, whatever. Okay. I'm actually a little disappointed that he didn't talk. Somebody talked him out of taking that jet for safety, reasons.
Yeah.
And I'm kind of sad that he didn't win that argument. But anyway. All right, everybody, we've got more news. It's just good news, and we're going to get to it right after this break. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
We'll be right back.

Something that shows what Trump is up to and how much he's frustrated and mad at the current administration. Now, I took the more cowardly way by leaving Facebook last year when there was so much political crap being posted. I was so sick of the politics at the time, scared and disappointed at the election results, and no one seemed to be fighting back at Trump. Well, then I found Blue sky and then Substack. And you guys, I love your interview with Miles Taylor and the fact that you're partnering up with defiance.org I joined Defiance right about the time I joined the Daily Beans, as well as the Grounded podcast with former Senator John Tester and journalist Marissa Giorgio. I had read Miles's book Blowback, which confirmed so much of what I believed about Trump. In Montana, where we live, John Tester was our guy for the U.S. senate. He did so much for our state and especially the veterans. So shouts out to Roy, Miles, John, and Marissa and wonderful ladies of the Daily Beans. So sweet. And all the other folks that are out there bravely giving us the truth and ways to fight back. You are so inspiring. Thank you. A pickup of a, baby deer and mama left in our yard so she could go eat for the day and know that baby was safe. Oh, my goodness. She came back and got her that evening. Also, our old dog Rosie with her baby giraffe that she sleeps with and loves so much. Look at that baby.
You are the dear daycare.
Look at that tiny deer. How sweet.
Tracy.
I love that mom drops. Mom be like, be back tonight.
Yeah.
Bye. All right, go get some food. Oh, this sweet baby dog. Look at that. Chompers little sausage.
I love it.
Thank you so much, Tracy. All right, from Lori. No pronouns given. Hello, AG and dg. I'm a part of the Pittsburgh Overpass project. Awesome. And my good friends and I put up banners on the Tripoli overpass every week. I thought you might like our Independence Day banner. The MAGA cult members who passed under it did not. My pet tax is my rescue dog buddy. His rough start in life has given him all the bravery of Mike Johnson when he finds out that Trump is angry about the save act. So we work hard to love and protect Buddy from all the things that scare him. He's amazingly adorable. And m, look at this overpass sign. Worst prez in 250 years. Beautiful. Beautiful.
Love it.
Have a good day. Beans Queens. Thank you so much, Lori.
This is awesome. M. All right, up. next, Kathy Pronoun. She and her hey AG and dg. Your show today was awesome. And I really like the idea of partnering with Defiance to multiply the force. Then you asked for book recommendations immediately this one came to mind. The man who Planted Trees. An allegorical tale by French author Jean Giorno Gingiorno. Pardon me. Published in 1953, it tells the story of one shepherd's long and successful single handed effort to reforest a desolate valley in the foothills of the alps throughout the first half of the 20th century. It was on my bookshelf for years and I would read it to my children who are all grown up now. By determination and perseverance, he transformed his world. Imagine how many more trees he could have planted if he had recruited more help with him. Keep up the good work. You all are an inspiration to all of us. I'm including a picture of my 10 grandkids gathered around the world for the 4th of July. Look at these sweet little cherubs.
Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness, Kathy. What a proud, proud grandma.
I know.
Well, this beautiful family. I love all their tie dye red, white and blue shirts that they got going on as well.
So good.
And look at the baby. I know that baby's skeptical of me, I can tell. Kathy, thank you so much for that. All right, a couple short ones here. Shelly, she her said we have so much fun every year at the pride parade. We wanted to share our bird watching that we did after the parade. So this is lovely. Thank you so much for this, this beautiful group of people. And from otter lover, here is the axolotl I met at the zoo who was not excited to meet me back. And here's one of the otters rolling around playing with his toes. Both brought me delight and made me think of the daily beans. Look how beautiful.
Oh, I love this.
We got an otter and an axolotl in one submission.
We're killing it, killing it, killing it. All right, next up from anonymous pronoun, she and her hello fearless leaders and fellow Leguminati. I'm feeling grateful that I am in a position in life to offer sanctuary to my best friend of over 20 years. We moved in together last fall. And we've been having a blast. She needed a place to land and I can afford to rent a two bedroom apartment after being promoted at work. It wasn't that long ago that I was at my lowest after my husband and my mom died a year apart. Oh my God. Anonymous I'm so sorry. My bestie held the rope while I climbed out of that hole. What a great fucking sentence. Now we're both thriving and striding forward attaches a selfie of us at Farmer's Market near our apartment for podpet tax. Here's Cutie I met a few years ago while out bluebonnet hunting in central Texas. He tried to run off with the lid to my iced tea when I didn't have any snacks for him. Oh I love this photo. I'm sending you guys the best and oh my God, this freaking donkey. Oh my goodness, what an ass.
You went to Dairy Queen? I love Dairy Queen. My favorite ass. Nice ass. my favorite is the butterscotch dip vanilla cone Dairy Queen.
I used to like the little I don't even know if it was actually strawberry, but the hard shell dip cone.
Yeah right. The red one.
Yep.
Yeah.
I don't know what flavor that was.
Mine was the butter. I think the red one was cherry and the yellow one was butterscotch. The butterscotch was my favorite.
There you go.
And you could get Dilly Bars in the freezer to take home. Like the same thing. Delicious. Just walking down Dairy Queen memory lane. Sorry. Next up, Proud mom pronoun she and her I'm so toug totally in awe of my daughter and I want to share her substack and blog. Yes, I'm old slash newsletter. She's taken on a project to parse out the Declaration of Independence as only a paralegal linguistic can. She started out her sub stack just writing about legal issues of the day, but along came J. Taj who did 31 days of putting the oh the PI back into AAPI month on Instagram, and Dr. Joanne Freeman talking to Preet Bharara on his podcast where she exhorted people to read the Declaration beyond the preamble. So here we are. Love it. 31 Days of Independence is looking hard at our founding document and it's on her substack legally. Strange. I cannot recommend her work enough. It's thought provoking and challenging. Sort of like the daily beans. Thanks for all you do to keep us engaged. You keep me sort of sane. My pet is my daughter's beloved cat, Smokey, who left us to cross the rainbow bridge last month. Oh, she left a cat sized hole in my heart. I may have to change my Instagram name as a result. Oh, proud mom. We're gonna have a link to legally Strange in the show notes.
Yes, we will.
Beautiful smoky kitty.
