msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Monday, July 13, 2026. Today. Lindsey Graham died this weekend and a scramble for his Sen seat is already underway. New York Times journalists have been subpoenaed over the story revealing deficiencies in the Qatari bribe jet. The FBI has admitted it has training videos on who to redact from the Epstein files. A Houston man killed by ICE was not their original target. Trump has ousted the remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission ahead of the midterms. Jeanine Pirro is begging a judge for more time to produce records relating to Kash Patel's drinking problems. Judge Kelly has granted Trump's motion to dismiss the Proud Boys seditious conspiracy charges. Congressman Ro Khanna was detained by IDF during his west bank visit. And whistleblowers have detailed several problems stemming from rushed or improper reconstruction of the Kennedy Center. I'm, your host, Alison Gill. Hey, everybody. Happy Monday. It was an interesting weekend, to say the least. Dana's out, she's traveling, but she'll be back soon, I promise. So Lindsey Graham is dead and we're going to cover next steps in his election later in this show. And I'm going to cover how the Internet is reacting on today's episode of Beans Talk. Beans Talk is our free video podcast. It's different from this one. You can check it out by going to the MSW Media Media YouTube channel and looking for Beans Talk. It's free to subscribe. If you have a moment. We would appreciate if you did that. Never any paywalls over there. Also, Salgado Arujo, the man murdered by ICE in Houston, was not the man the feds were looking for. And the three witnesses that were in the van with him are all saying that Salgado did not ram the ICE vehicle. He didn't weaponize his vehicle. But administration officials are pushing them to self deport, probably so they can cover up what actually happened. Now, Andy McCabe and I went over this in detail on the latest episode of Unjustified. just came out yesterday, so you'll definitely want to check that out. We went over all of those stories that developed over the weekend about Mr. M. Arujo. Also, Trump appointed Judge Kelly has reluctantly granted Jeanine Pirro's motion to dismiss the seditious conspiracy charges against the Proud Boys for their role in the insurrection. I still haven't heard anything from Amit Mehta and the Oath Keepers, but Harry Dunn and I are going to cover that story in detail on Wednesday's episode of cleanup on aisle 45. Also, the FBI has admitted to me in a letter in my Freedom of Information act request that they have training videos that they disseminated last spring when they locked a thousand FBI analysts in the building to review the Epstein files, to tell them, instruct them on who and how to redact and remove things from the Epstein files. Now, I got that tip from an, anonymous source, which I confirmed with multiple other sources, both in the FBI and the Department of Justice and former and current officials. And, I held onto that piece of news for about five minutes, filed a Freedom of Information act request, and then published that news back in July on my substack. It's called the FBI Cover up of the Epstein Files. And. And just this week, a couple days ago, my lawyer and I got a letter from the FBI. We thought they were going to say these videos don't exist, but, they didn't actually confirm their existence. And the reason that this is huge, news is twofold. First of all, it confirms my reporting, confirms my sources, that there were training videos that were disseminated on an unclassified SharePoint site. And the second important thing here is that they were supposed to release those under the Epstein Files Transparency act, and they didn't. So I filed my Freedom of Information act request in July, and then we filed our lawsuit in August, and then they passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act. My lawyer and I were like, okay, well, they'll release these videos pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act. But after a couple productions, and finally, once Todd Blanche said, that's it. We're done producing, they didn't release those videos, and they were supposed to. And so we thought for sure they weren't going to acknowledge their existence because that would, m. Mean, they were violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act. But lo and behold, they did. And you can see that video on my substack, muellershirote.com it's my lawyer, Kel McClanahan, and I, and we go over that letter. We'll show you the letter that we got from the FBI confirming the existence of those videos. All right, we have a ton of news to get to today, so let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, from Politico, the overnight death of Senator Lindsey Graham last Saturday night touched off a sudden scramble to fill his Senate seat as ambitious potential candidates. And shocked Republican leaders mixed public expressions of grief with fierce private maneuvering over Graham's job. Graham was scheduled to appear on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday morning, but instead, well before the show's usual airtime. Powerful Republicans from Capitol Hill to the White House to South Carolina were working to shape the selection of a replacement for the 71 year old Graham. Senior House Republicans quickly began lobbying behind the scenes for now against picking a member of the House for Graham's seat because it would shave down the GOP's already tiny house majority, according to people familiar with the entreaties. Meaning let's have somebody in the House replace him. No, we can't. We have a slim margin there, too. Speculation in South Carolina fixed on Lt. Governor Pamela Evatt, a loyal deputy of the governor who will make the appointment, Henry McMaster. Evatt won President Trump's endorsement in her own failed bid for governor this year, and a person close to Evatt, granted anonymity to share her thinking, said she has yet to make up her mind on a run, but is fielding tons of encouragement from around the state to throw her hat in the ring. The high profile appointment will be the latest decision with national implications for the outgoing governor who tried but failed to force state lawmakers to redraw South Carolina's congressional districts in the Republicans favor last May. At this time, our focus is on honoring Senator Graham's life and Service. That's Michelle Leclair, a spokesperson for McMaster. She went on to say questions regarding the process for filling the vacancy will be addressed by the governor's office when there are updates to share. The speed at which morning turned maneuvering underscores the precariousness of the Republican Party's grip on Washington and the intensity of the competition and distrust between different Republican factions seeking to claim Graham's seat. The GOP majority in the Senate was under political pressure from multiple directions even before Lindsey Graham's death. Relations between Senate Republicans and the White House have deteriorated badly in recent weeks. Democratic Senate candidates are pushing to go on offense in the midterm elections. And Senator Mitch McConnell, the 84 year old former majority leader, has been hospitalized for a month now while disclosing few details about his condition. Now I'll break in here to say that he put out a statement and a photo of him and his wife Elaine Chao from a rehab facility. And this was again on Sunday saying, we're great, I'm fine, I can't come back and vote yet. I took a fall. I didn't have a heart attack, I didn't have a stroke. I took a fall and I had a mild case of pneumonia. And they included a photo with Mitch pointing to a newspaper. And it has been confirmed that that newspaper is from Sunday, July 12. I've posted it over on my Blue sky account. So that's the latest From Mitch M. McConnell didn't say anything about Lindsey Graham, though. Now Graham, a stalwart of national and South Carolina Republican politics, died of a brief and sudden illness overnight, according to his office. His death leaves a sizable void on Capitol Hill, but also in the Palmetto State, where he was in the middle of a fifth run for his post in the Senate. And I do want to update you with his health. You know what the medical examiner said. Findings from the D.C. medical examiner found Graham suffered from an aortic dissection in which a tear occurs in the inner layer of a main artery, the aorta. This was caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which is a condition when our arteries become clogged and disrupt blood flow. So that is a little more information on what happened to Graham now. Amid the grieving and odes to Graham's decades long congressional career, Republicans quickly began focusing large largely on the process and field shaping up to replace him and how quickly it could play out. South Carolina state law dictates that the Republicans will have to run in a snap primary to replace Graham on the ballot, which is set to take place Aug. 11. The race would advance to an Aug. 25 runoff if no single candidate wins a majority of votes, and that's kind of what I'm hoping for here. Long and expensive process with tons of people in the field. The qualifying period of the new state GOP hopefuls vying for the seat will open July 21. No candidate has officially announced a bid, but several were immediately considering it, including Nancy Mace. That's according to two people familiar with her planning. She plans on polling beginning this week. She came in fifth place, by the way, in the recent South Carolina primary. Mark lynch, who unsuccessfully, ran against Graham already this year, is also interested in the seat, according to a spokesperson. Senior Republicans say of the current South Carolina Republican delegation that Russell Frye would be in the strongest position behind Evatt to run in the special election to replace Graham, according to two people with direct knowledge. Fry is close with Trump and has a stronger MAGA profile than others in contention. But that could only happen if McMaster M decides not to appoint beyond Yvette for the role and taps a caretaker for the seat who would not run for the full term. That's according to People. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, a native of South Carolina who's maintained a House there during his time in D.C. on Sunday, was also fielding calls from people asking him to run. According to a person familiar, they were granted anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly. Another person close to Besant said his interest is staying on as Treasury Secretary, which is a role he's long wanted. Now, it was fitting and a source of intrigue and speculation that Graham spent some of his final hours in Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and renewed his support for Ukraine's resistance in its four year old war against a full scale Russian invasion. Lindsay's kind of been a thorn in the side of Trump and Putin on Ukraine. Bill Browder, an activist who has worked closely with Congress to pass tough sanctions measures aimed at Russia, called for immediate testing to confirm the cause of Graham's death. Bill Browder is the architect of the Magnitsky Act. I interviewed him in January of 2019 for the Mueller she wrote podcast shortly after his testimony to Congress in those investigations, quote, russians are expert at administration of poisons that look like heart attacks. That's what he wrote. Who testified to Graham about Russia's subversive overseas measures in 2017? All tests should be done immediately to rule out foul play. I've seen enough Russian related suspicious deaths to know this is the only course of action. Of course, FBI Director Kash Patel can't go a day without some fucking attention. And he indicated Sunday that the FBI was assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available. The FBI declined to comment on the specifics of that assistance or whether it was pursuing any specific inquiries related to Graham's death. So I'm going to be covering. That's what we have so far, as this is a developing story. I'm going to be covering the Internet's reaction to, Lindsey Graham's death. Over on the Beans talk today. All right, everybody, I have a lot more news to get to, but I have to take a quick break, so stick around. We'll be right back after these messages. We'll be right back. Hey, everybody, welcome back. Our next story comes from the New York Times. The Trump administration issued subpoenas on Friday to several journalists from the New York Times after the news outlet reported this week on security concerns involving President Trump's new cuttery donated Air Force One. The subpoenas, which seek to force the reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan this Wednesday, are an extraordinary escalation of Trump's efforts to threaten and intimidate independent news organizations. In some cases, the subpoenas were delivered by federal agents who showed up at reporters homes. The Times denounced to the administration's actions, quote, the appearance of federal law enforcement agents on the doorsteps of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and and the press freedom it protects. That's David McCraw, the Times top newsroom lawyer in a statement Friday evening, the Times journalists who received subpoenas included Julian E. Barnes, Eric Lipton, Tyler Pager and Eric Schmidt, who reported on Wednesday that Trump had departed Turkey on the old Air Force One as a security precaution at the urging of the Secret Service. On Thursday, the Times reported that the new Air Force One, a Qatari donated Boeing 747 Tac 8, lacked some of the advanced security features of the older aircraft, including anti missile capabilities. Both articles cited sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security issues. Nothing confirms a story like subpoenas from a tyrannical government, am I right? Federal agents knocking on journalists doors. Where have I heard that before? What kind of country does that? What kind of of regime does that? We'll keep an eye on this next up from NBC. The White House ousted all three sitting members of the U.S. election Assistance Commission on Thursday, hamstringing the bipartisan agency ahead of the midterm elections. He just kicked the entire board off. The Democratic commissioners, Thomas Hicks and Benjamin W. Hovland, were fired by email, according to two people familiar with their terminations. One of the sources also said Republican commissioner Christy McCormick had got a call and was asked to resign. Quote, they'll be replaced, said a White House official who confirmed that all three commissioners are gone. What are you going to put Eastman and Clark and Chesbro on there, man? I mean, this is the Election Assistance Commission. Presidential appointments to the EAC are subject to Senate confirmation. So this is by no means a quick process, but perhaps the idea is to not have anybody there at all for the midterm elections. White house aide Morgan DeWitt Snow sent the Democratic commissioners a brief email termination around 4pm Eastern, according to one of the people, quote, on behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I'm ready to inform you that your position as commissioner of the Election Assistance Commission is terminated, effective immediately. Thank you for your service. That's what the email said. Now, the EAC is a bipartisan commission that helps state and local officials run their elections, certifying election equipment and working with other agencies to ensure state and local elections run smoothly. From 2018 to 2025, it distributed more than a billion dollars in grants for election security, according to a bipartisan policy center. Hovland, one of the Democratic commissioners, told NBC News he was fired returning from a work trip to a Missouri election office when he got the email. The eac, he said, has acted as a clearinghouse, sharing best practices between states and helping them use their limited resources to run their elections. Taking away a key federal agency designed to help state and local election administrators will have a negative impact. That's what Hovland said, quote, when you're asking more and more of people without giving them the necessary resources, you know, mistakes happen. And so there's this real risk of like self fulfilling prophecies in the way. It feels much more like a death of a thousand cuts situation than there's one particular thing that you're concerned about. The commission normally has two Republicans and two Democrats. One Republican, Don Palmer, resigned this year, leaving it with just these three members who are now out. Also from NBC, Repro Khanna, Democrat from California, said he was detained by Israeli settlers armed with US Made rifles during a West bank visit this week that he cast as an unfiltered look at the human toll of Israeli occupation as he weighs a 2028 presidential run. Speaking with Reuters on Thursday in a Palestinian village, Khanna said his group's van was surrounded by settlers wielding M4 rifles. We armed them with a day earlier while touring a part of the southern west bank where residents face frequent settler attacks. Quote, we were at a village that Israeli settlers had destroyed. They had destroyed the school, they had destroyed that village. We were just looking at it, he said. And then these hoodlums came out with machine guns, M4, an American made machine gun, and they detained us. They blocked off the road and then they called idf. And the IDF is on their side, not on the side of the Americans. That's what Khanna said, referring to the IDF Israeli Defense Forces. An aide to Ro Khanna who was in the group, Cameron Caskey, said they were held for more than an hour and made appeals to the US Embassy in Jerusalem for help. A group of officers who appeared to be police eventually intervened, leading to their release. In a later statement, Ro Khanna said, if they will do this to an American congressman, imagine what's happening to Palestinian families who are just trying to live. I'm grateful to David Brownstein of the American Embassy for helping rescue us. I expect Israel will prosecute the violent settlers and IDF soldiers who detained American citizens. I think there's a little sarcasm there. Next up from the Associated Press, A Democratic senator on Saturday alleged whistleblowers have detailed several problems stemming from rushed or improper reconstruction of the Kennedy center, adding a new layer to the travails of the arts complex as Trump tried to seize control of it, along with its name and its nonprofit organization. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode island said in a release on Saturday he had received a whistleblower disclosure from the Government Accountability Project, which is a nonprofit whistleblower protection group, alleging that, quote, the center rushed a series of renovations driven by the president's aesthetic whimsical and his desire to star in a series of telephi's defense in December, quote, the center's subservience to the president's desires and its corner cutting contracting practices have resulted in steel columns that are rusting through fresh paint, a reflecting pool that will have to be torn out and rebuilt, and a brand new bathroom floor torn out over an offending tile color. That's what Senator Whitehouse said. Went on to say, this is a waste and it treats a national memorial to President Kennedy as if it were a private renovation project. The Kennedy center did not immediately respond to requests for comment. White House released a letter he wrote to the center's executive director, Matt Flocka, demanding answers by July 23rd, ten days from now. He said the whistleblower report included firsthand accounts of multiple former center project managers, supported by contemporaneous documents and photographs. He also included an 83 page appendix full of internal center documents, emails and photos of apparently shoddy construction. The allegations include that the center rushed work before it was authorized by Congress because it wanted to be complete for Trump to accept the new FIFA peace prize that the soccer federation awarded him. In doing so, the letter alleges, the center didn't follow required contracting guidelines and wasted money replacing a bathroom because the president didn't like the color and inking. No bid contracts and one $8 million contract to replace the concert hall's floor went to a firm with zero experience in concert halls. So, we're going to keep an eye on that. And from Raw Story, a top federal prosecutor asked a judge this week for two more weeks to respond to a lawsuit over FBI Director Kash Patel's alleged drinking, citing a crush of emergency cases. Emergency cases like Davey Hearn in the reflecting pool. I need more time. I'm trying to take a former olympian to court. U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro, whose office covers the District of Columbia, is the defendant in a public records lawsuit filed by Democracy Forward foundation, which sued the FBI and the Justice Department after the agencies, according to the complaint, ignored or rejected its records requests about Patel's alleged drinking and unexplained absences. The group wants records searching for the terms drunk, hungover, inebriated, passed out, won't wake, and unresponsive, among others, according to the complaint, as well as the use of breaching equipment by Patel's security detail in a Motion filed Tuesday. Piro's office used the word emergency three times in less than two pages to help justify the delay. Democracy Forward agreed to extend to July 23, but not the July 30 date that Pirro's office wanted. The Atlantic reported in April that Patel, quote, is known to drink to the point of obvious intoxication in many cases at the private club the Neds in Washington D.C. while in the presence of White House and other administration staff and at a private club in Las Vegas, I think called the Poodle Room, Quote, early in his tenure, meetings and briefings had to be rescheduled for later in the day as a result of his alcohol fueled nights, the outlet reported, citing six current and former officials. Quote, a request for breaching equipment normally used by SWAT and hostage rescue teams to quickly gain entry into buildings was made last year because Patel had been unreachable behind locked doors. That's according to the Atlantic reporting. Quote, we're all just waiting for the word that Patel is out. That's what one official from the FBI told the outlet. Quote, that's what keeps me up at night. Another official said, warning that Patel's behavior had become a national security risk as the US Wages war with Iran. The Intercept separately reported that Patel was twice arrested in alcohol related incidents, once for public intoxication as a college student and once for public urination after leaving a bar. Those are disclosures that he did make in a 2005 letter on his Florida bar application. Patel has specifically denied the Atlantic's allegations. Print it all. False. I'll see you in court. Bring your checkbook. That's what he told the magazine before suing it for $250 million. Now, Chuck Grassley, the Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who once called Patel the right change agent for the FBI, is now demanding answers to calling for an independent and objective review of Patel's conduct. On Thursday, Judge Randolph Moss officially extended Pirro's deadline to July 30. They gave her the time she asked for. Y', all, I'm with the agents. I think Kash Patel is not long for this job. We're going to keep an eye on it. And by the way, check out yesterday's episode of Unjustified for more news about Koch, including that piece. But there's other stuff going on as well. He was called to the White House recently about some stuff. So check it out. Unjustified Free. Where you get your podcasts. All right, that is the news. First up is your good trouble Good trouble Today it comes from Indivisible.org urge Democrats to oppose and stop Trump's crypto corruption. Last year, the House passed the Clarity Act, HR 3633, a bill disguised as crypto regulation that actually serves the billionaires and bad actors at the center of today's crypto chaos. This bill does not protect consumers, it does not close money laundering loopholes, and it does nothing to stop the biggest threat of all, Trump's crypto fueled bribery machine. The Clarity act is being considered in the Senate and we need to urge our senators to stop it. Unfortunately, 78 House Democrats helped pass the Clarity act last summer. So we need to make sure Senate Democrats don't make the same mistake. We're going to have a link in the show Notes for an indivisible guide on how to oppose and stop Trump's crypto corruption. So thanks to that Good trouble from Indivisible.org all right, our first good news submission is from Ed Pronouns he and him. Buongiorno, beans Queens. Greetings from Crotone and beautiful Calabria. We visited the fortress of La Castella and were treated to an absolutely stunning view of the coastline. It's hard to believe that the absolute best view of this area was not seen regularly by royalty, clergy or gentry, but rather the soldiers who were stationed at the fortress. I can't say that their accommodations were very posh, but you can't beat the view. And once again, the span of time is striking. The standing fortifications were constructed in the early 18th century, you know, when the US was a bunch of colonies, but it was built upon the ruins of a Roman fortification from nearly 2,800 years ago. Pictures for you today are La Castella and the view from the battlements. Enjoy Ed. I am dying for I love your updates. Oh my gosh, look how blue the water is. And the sky. And there's the fortress. Oh my gosh. Thank you for sharing, Bongiorno. next up, Shannon the dog behavior nerd pronoun. She and her hi Excellental beans. Certified professional Fear free dog trainer here. I have a correction sandwich for ag, though it's actually a good correction, so I'm leaving off the compliment bun. Two weeks ago there was an episode where you were dog breeds, erroneously thought that one was an Australian cattle dog and then were a little disappointed in your less than 100% score for breeds that day. However, the dog in question was a Queensland Heeler. A Queensland heeler is simply a more formal older name for an Australian cattle dog, so they're the exact same thing, thus preserving your actual 100% score for said day. Congratulations. Oh goodness. Yay. Thanks to both of you also for preserving a safe atmosphere and phenomenally caring community of like minded folks. It helps so much to know that I'm not alone as daily Beans and the Leguminati serve as such a warmly inclusive security blanket for me, a disabled, autistic queer and dog obsessed Gen Xer of exactly half a century old for my podpet tariff. Can you what the mutt with these freaks? Picture one is of my three dogters, Pong, Tonka and maybe Rose, Pongo and Tonka. These lovely gals were found at the tender age of 8 weeks in a scalding hot South Florida dumpster in 2001, both of whom I lost when they were almost 17 years old in 2018. They were litter mates with identical DNA. So same dad as a litter can have many fathers, as many fathers as there are pups in the litter. I know you get one of the two of their breeds for sure. The second one's a bit trickier I tell people who ask that five month old, then almost 11 years now, maybe is a canardly because you can hardly tell what she is. but you'll get at least one of her salad breeds. Now, the second pick is of me back in 2019 at Pete Buttigieg campaign event in my Mueller she wrote tank top. I need to buy another one. It got lost in my move from Costa Mesa, California to Ruby red conservative central North Carolina. Or I'm likely one of the only social democrats and definitely the only Jew. Dana, please come perform in either Greensboro or Charlotte. Oh, my goodness. All right, let's see. First of all, great tank top. Beautiful hair, by the way. All right, so looking at Pong and Tonka, there's definitely husky there. I don't know. I can't. I'd say healer again because of the little spots on the darker one, but I don't know. Let's see what we got here. Pong and Tonka are both half Siberian husky. Oh, I got one. That's the half you'll likely get. And half Dalmatian. Sorry if that affects your score for today. That's okay. And let's see the other one here. Looks like a pity Staffy type doggo. Let's see what we got. 30% Pit Bull, 10% Chow, German Shepherd, Retriever, and then less than 5% Roddy Collie, Chihuahua boxer, Jack Russell, malamute, Staffordshire and Rhodesian Ridgeback. All right, so I got the 30% pit bull and less than 5% of staffie. So I got 35% of that dog. I'll call it. I'll call it a win. I'll call it a win. Absolutely adorable for both of them. and thanks for writing in. Thank you so much. All right, next up, Carol P. Hi. I don't really have any good news.
