should be, I think is the point. But some very sad news today. Tim Curry. Tim Curry, the British born actor whose gift for eccentricity, lit up stage and screen, most notably as the cross dressing mad scientist in the midnight cult film Rocky Horror Picture Show.

He died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was also 80, as was Dolly. So, you know, I'm just thinking all of the things I've seen in Muppet Treasure Island. It, my favorite movie, one of my favorite movies, Clue. in fact there's an exchange from that film in the intro music to my very first podcast, Mueller she wrote, he was just such a brilliantly funny man. And he will be sorely missed as well.
He will. And Jesus, you're taking all of the wrong Home Alone, two actors. Just get it right, for God's sake.

And I know some people are like, it's not appropriate to joke. I just want to acknowledge that the way a lot of people cope with grief is through humor. and so I just live and let live on days like this when it comes to stuff like that.

Nightmare fuel.
Unbelievable. A wall of mud and rock appeared to collapse into a river on the Himalayan border of Nepal and China's Tibet on Wednesday. What that did is it triggered a catastrophic flash flood on the Nepali side that has killed at least 157people and left hundreds of tourists missing. And if you see the video, you'll understand why this isn't a story we're going to cover in depth right now. If it's a story you would like to research just because you're interested in this type of news. Just be prepared. When you see the video, it is startling.
It really is. I've never seen anything like it. And, you know, our hearts go out to the people in Nepal and Tibet that are impacted by this. It's just absolute, total devastation. And I know that the number of people missing and dead is going to continue to rise. And we'll keep an eye on that for you. Yeah. In some election news, a new Impact poll, which is a B rated poll, has Dr. Annie Andrews tied with Darlene Graham at 41%. Now, Darlene Graham, that's the sister. I call her Darlene Nordone because that's her married name. And she should honor her husband like good, Christians do. She won the runoff that happened on Tuesday, but just barely against, I think his name's Ralph Norman and she was the Trump endorsed candidate. And another Trump endorsed candidate in Oklahoma, barely, like by less than a point, won his race too, for Oklahoma governor. So this, the Trump endorsement is not, you know how they like to say it's a mandate, it's a landslide, right?
Not anymore.
They're just eking these out. But she won the runoff Last night in South Carolina. So she'll be going up against Annie Andrews.
She also gave a bizarre victory speech. I don't know if you. Oh, God. You heard. So there was something weird about, like, how her vision for South Carolina is for people to work when they're sick and to die young. And I'm like, what is going on? I actually think we have a clip. So you all don't think Allison, and I are just making shit up.
The Bernie Sanders and aoc. If you like Kamala Harris for president, you're gonna love Dr. Annie Andrews. No person in South Carolina has pushed harder for the absolutely terrible idea of turning confused little boys into little girls and vice versa than Annie Andrews. Gun control, government run, health care, abortion until the moment of birth. Bad idea after bad idea. Annie Andrews backs them all. I have a different background and vision for our state. I'm a hard worker with a servant's heart. I grew up in the back of a bar and liquor store in one room in central South Carolina. My parents worked long, hard hours to, make ends meet. We didn't take vacations if they were sick. They had to get up and go to work because the doors weren't open. We weren't making money. My mother passed away when I was 11 and my father just over a year later. For the past 30 years, I've worked hard for the people of South Carolina. And for the past seven years, I've led a state agency. And I understand the struggles facing South Carolina families because I face them too. As your senator, I will continue to work to grow our economy and put South Carolina families first.
I mean, my God, I don't
understand for the people of South Carolina. And we had, someone write in about this. South Carolina is not deep red. It's very purple in a lot of areas. They have some very good candidates that are running. This is a statewide race.
Yeah.
This cannot be gerrymandered out of a district. If everyone gets out and votes, they can keep her out of office.
Yeah. And just, I mean, put it on a shirt. Work, sick, die young. Like, what? What?
I know. Darlene Graham.
That's your campaign slogan. Like, I just couldn't believe it. Like, I have a different vision for South Carolina. I grew up in a one room shack without running water. And my parents died when I was nine and they went to work when they were sick. And that's what I want forever. Like, what on the. That was just insane when I saw that.
She is bizarre. Like, she's out of her league. And I don't say that in that. In the sense that. Not you. You know, people can't run for Senate. I mean, she is in over her head. She does not know what she's doing. She's not prepared for debates. She's not prepared for speeches. She's not a politician. I just. It is shocking to me that South Carolina doesn't think they deserve better than this. Even the Republicans.
Yeah, you definitely do, South Carolina. You deserve better. Check this out. The Minnesota Star Tribune is reporting. In a, ah, blow to Minnesota law enforcement, a federal judge set the stage for ICE agent Christian Castro to be released from the Texas jail after he was arrested three months ago on charges that he shot the Venezuelan national in Minneapolis through the door. Remember when they. And then lied about it, saying that they attacked him with a broom and a shovel. On Wednesday, U.S. district Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. Rejected Minnesota's request. Remember, Ellison sued to extradite this guy to compel Castro's extradition, determining that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has neither agreed nor refused to sign the warrant for Castro. And we thought he was just going to run out the clock on this, and it looks like he's trying to do that now. Quote, the court accepts that Governor Abbott has considered this particular extradition request for an atypically long duration, the judge wrote. Nevertheless, Minnesota identifies no statutory or constitutional provision requiring Governor Abbott to complete his investigation and decide whether to sign the rendition warrant within a particular time period. And because Texas law only allows Castro to be held for 90 days in jail while awaiting extradition, this ruling opens the door for him to be released from custody today and leaves any potential extradition to Minnesota in Greg Abbott's hands. He could slip into Mexico. He could be. He'll be on the lam.
Yeah.
So that's a, disappointing ruling. And, you know, with minutes left, perhaps Ellison can go to the appellate court at midnight at 12:01 and say he didn't sign it. Give him to me fast. But he might already be gone by then.
I also want to thank you directly for using the term beyond the lamb. That's why I started giggling. It's a serious story. But when you said that, it was sort of hard to keep a straight face because I think we should start using that, more often.
Yeah. Let's bring these ICE agents.
Let's bring it back. This next story. Judge Nichols, this is really interesting. A Trump appointee has declined a DOJ motion to dismiss the charges against Steve Bannon.
Yeah. Judge Nichols said the government's motion does not explain its motivations for seeking the dismissal of the indictment. And it thus fails to meet Rule 48A. That's a, procedural requirement. 48A is a procedural requirement. Same thing happened, by the way, in the Oath Keeper's case. So I imagine the Justice Department's going to file anew with their reasons, and the case charges are going to be dismissed. But it is actually really nice to see that the judge is refusing to just rubber stamp this thing and make it go through the process.
Yeah. And, you know, I put this up on social media and I was like, I'm glad the court's not just a rubber stamp. And somebody brought up a really good point. And they're like, just because it has an extra step doesn't mean it's not a rubber stamp. And I'm like, okay, fair, fair.
Never mind.

job cursing the whole time. You know she is.

Now, Judge Kelly, when he dismissed the proud boy suit, didn't ask for a follow up. He just took whatever Janine Pirro said, which was because I said so right at face value. Hot notes. All right, first up from democracy docket. This is kind of a winding roller coaster of a story, but a federal judge in Boston lifted restrictions preventing the Postal Service from implementing Trump's anti mail voting executive order. The decision allows the administration to continue work on the order for now as a legal battle over its constitutionality looms. US District Court Judge Indira Talwani's decision to lift her own blockade. It was the second blockade that was on there came two days after the U.S. supreme Court invalidated her other injunction against the order in a separate lawsuit. In explaining her decision, Talwani noted that the Supreme Court's procedural reasoning in the other case that she was too quick to issue an injunction before Trump's order was actually implemented, also applied in this case. And it was because there wasn't a final published rule in place yet. Quote, the Supreme Court found that this court erred in the other case by speculating that the post office one, would propose the rule and two weigh the comments and three, issue a final rule consistent with the EO's directives and admonished that federal courts review final rules, not proposed rules, and certainly not antecedent internal directives to a proposed rule. That's what Talwani wrote. Quote, the court finds it likely that the Supreme Court would apply the same reasoning here. Now, while she removed her injunction, Talwani took veiled swipes at the conservative majority's logic in the other case, State of California v. Trump, quote, without any considerations of whether the executive's goals are lawful or even likely lawful or possibly lawful. The Supreme Court concluded that appellate review on the merits of the court's final judgment in California v. Trump, quote, would come too late for the 2026 midterms and that the court's errors as to justiciability deal a serious setback to those goals while an injunction is in place. So shortly thereafter, Talwani asked for renewed briefing because the final rule was just published.
Oh, wow.
So it's presumably now ripe for a proper preliminary injunction that should survive Supreme Court scrutiny. Now, she could reblock the order with a temporary restraining order anytime after noon today, Thursday, and then has scheduled a hearing for a more permanent preliminary injunction for September 3rd. Now, meanwhile in D.C. the Democrats renewed their bid to block President Donald Trump's anti mail voting executive order, saying that there's a newly finalized USPS rule and it has eliminated the concerns that led to a judge to reject her first injunction request as premature. Talking about Talwani, who's in Boston. This filing, which argues that the post office lacks the authority to regulate who receives a mail ballot, is the first litigation to challenge the order on its merits. It marks the start of the next phase in the heated legal battle over Trump's anti voting directive. So this includes Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. That's the dscc, the dccc, that's the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the dnc, Democratic National Committee, Democratic Governors Association, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, they are all plaintiffs in the suit, the proposed supplemental complaint in a D.C. lawsuit challenging Trump's executive order. So they are doing something. The Democrats, the plaintiff, also filed a renewed motion for a preliminary injunction and they asked the court to hear the motion on or around September 4, which is right around the September 3 hearing that Telwani put in for preliminary injunction. So basically the Supreme Court lifted the stay a couple days ago because the final rule hadn't been published. But now it has, so everyone's refiling. And I wouldn't be surprised if that rule is blocked again today. We'll see if the Supreme Court shadow docket lifts that stay again.
Yeah.
And if so, what reason they could possibly give since the rule has been finalized?
We will definitely see. This is a related story from Democracy Docket. It's really fucking disappointing, to be honest with you. Black Voters, they, had a 20, 23 victory. And what it did is it blocked Georgia's congressional and state legislative maps. That proved fleeting after the 11 circuits sent the case back to a lower court to be reconsidered in light of, again, a, U.S. supreme Court's landmark decision that gutted the Voting Rights act provisions guaranteeing political representation for minority voters. It's the latest fallout from the Supreme Court's Calais decision, which held that minority voters must essentially prove congressional maps eliminating majority minority voting districts were racially motivated and not done merely for partisan political advantage. And how does that happen, Alison? Because in my opinion, it's the only way is for someone to go, yeah, I did it because I'm fucking racist. Otherwise, how do you prove it?
You don't. It's the same way they gutted the bribery laws.
Exactly.
You have to literally say, I am bribing you with this money in exchange for this thing I'm going to do for you.
Right. I'm a racist fuck. And we're redrawing the maps. So a federal judge has now struck down Georgia's congressional map, and that was in October of 2023, finding that the state lawmakers violated Section 2 of the BRA, the Voting Rights act, by drawing district maps in such a way that the political process is not equally open to black voters. And this quote continues. For example, in the past decade, all of Georgia's population growth was attributable to the minority population. However, the number of majority black congressional and legislative districts. Districts remain the same. So the population's growing. The districts are not. That's what the court concluded. In the 2023 ruling, the judge ordered Georgia to add a second majority Black congressional district. Now the district court must reconsider the case in light of the Supreme Court's ruling. And that's the 11th Circuit. That's what they said. I just.
Yeah. And pretty much anything that was given to, you know, I shouldn't say given, fought for by voters under the Voting Rights act is now all having to be reconsidered under this new Klay decision.
Yeah.
From NBC, a new Dan Sullivan has entered the conversation surrounding the Alaska Senate race in which the incumbent, Dan Sullivan faces a candidate, Dan Sullivan. The Republican former mayor of Anchorage, Dan A. Sullivan, endorsed GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan for reelection over retired teacher Dan J. And Democratic former Rep. Mary Peltola.
Oh my God, this is just comical. This is my brother Darryl. This is my other brother, Darrell.
Oh my God. The Newhart show, quote, as the OG Dan Sullivan I urge Alaskans to vote for Senator Dan Sullivan. He'll be great for Alaska. That's what the former mayor wrote on Facebook. Both Dan S. Sullivan and Mary Paltola advanced to the general election in November after the all party primary last week in which top four vote getters advance regardless of political affiliation. News just made it official and has called it for the Dan J. Sullivan. he has advanced also to the final Alaska, Senate race is considered one of the most competitive this cycle when control of the upper chamber hangs in the balance with primary votes left to count. Peltola so far has 48% of the vote. Dan S. Sullivan has 43%. Dan J. Sullivan has 2.5%. With the other candidates getting considerably fewer votes. The general election for the Senate race will be decided by ranked choice voting in November. And Democrats view the election as a seat they could flip in November. And I think they will. The Cook Political Report rates the state as a toss up.
Interesting. This next story is from Ms. Now House Judiciary Democrats. They are expanding their probe into Jared Kushner. As we know, that's the Trump son in law and peace envoy is what they call him, to scrutinize a luxury resort that he wants to build in Albania's coast. By the way, this is a project that has drawn weeks of protests and allegations that the land beneath it was obtained through a faked deed. This all sounds right on track. In a letter shared first with ms, now Rep. Jamie Raskin. We love you. Of Maryland. He's the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. He said he has new questions about Kushner's and I quote, suspect real estate practices and wants him to hand over records tied to approval or consideration of his projects in Albania, including any communications with the US And Albanian governments. Raskin said Democrats want to determine whether Kushner's, quote, conduct should be investigated under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Good for you, Raskin. And whether that statute needs updating.
It does.
It does. According to a summary by the Department of Commerce, the statute makes it, and I quote, unlawful for a U.S. person or company to offer pay or promise to pay money or anything of value to any foreign official for the purpose of obtaining or retaining business.
Which the fucking administration is doing, you'd think. Hand over fist.
Yeah, you'd think.
My God. The letter escalates a probe that Raskin opened in April into what Democrats called Kushner's glaring and incurable conflict of interest. Serving simultaneously as White House peace envoy and leader of a private equity firm backed partly by Gulf sovereign wealth funds. That investigation was also first reported by Ms. Now, and this is a quote, while acting as our nation's chief negotiator to end several international conflicts created or exasperated by your father in law's administration, you have taken the time to start another fraud related international incident all by yourself. That's what Raskin wrote in the new letter about Kushner's Albanian efforts. I mean, come on, dude.

All right, some good news from the Athletic Enes Cantor Freedom, former NBA player who recently gained notoriety for his vocal opposition to transgender athletes that don't exist in the wnba, has been indefinitely banned from Chicago sky home games after recent verbal altercations with the player and ejection from the arena. That's what team owner Michael Alter told the Athletic the WNBA will not institute a league wide ban on Freedom. I wish they would. And that's according to a source with knowledge of the decision who spoke under the condition of anonymity. Freedom, as we know, wore a shirt that read woman, noun, adult, human, Female, sat courtside at WindTrust arena for the Skies game against the Fever. Alter said Freedom turned himself into a potential threat by stepping toward Cloud after she chirped when she made a basket in the third quarter. Security restrained Cloud, then removed Freedom from the arena. Now, Alter said the sky might reconsider the ban, quote, if someday he's able to demonstrate he's capable of being at a game and conducting himself in compliance with our rules and not to be a threat to people. I'm just going to tell you right now, Alter, he can't make that change.

the topic of transgender athlete inclusion has sparked small demonstrations both for and against Outside Fever road games since Indiana guard Sophie Cunningham's views against trans athletes in women's sports appeared in an ESPN article. There was another rally before Sunday's game in Chicago, and Freedom was seen getting heckled outside the arena before tip off. That's Freedom and his cantor, Freedom. Freedom's ejection from the sky game was the second incident over the course of the weekend in which a game at wintrust arena was disrupted. As we know, we talked about this on the Beans talk. The first Occurred on Friday, during the skies game against the Valkyries, when several sex toys were thrown onto the court in the third quarter. Alter said the team has visually identified the perpetrators using security images. They don't have their names yet. Quote, our intention is to continue until we find them. We will prosecute them once we do. A reminder, this is completely manufactured, everyone. There are no transgender women in the wnba.
There's also no transgender women in the draft. To go into the wnba.

Manufactured crisis. That's why I really, really need y' all to stay focused. All right? This is from NBC. A federal judge in Texas has struck down a 2023 state law Tuesday that sought to restrict drag shows, ruling it was unconstitutional. We have a win in Texas. By who? Judge David Hittner, who's a Reagan appointee. He said the measure, known as Texas Senate Bill 12 improperly restricted speech, violating the First Amendment of the Constitution. Look at that. Someone is actually interpreting the Constitution correctly.

How dare you, Allison. I was fine until that. The ruling prevents State Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for the Senate, from enforcing the law, and it denies his motion for a new trial. Makes me so happy. In the ruling, Hitner also had advice for, and I quote, those who find such activities as described in this case offensive. He said the solution's relatively simple. Just don't go. Paxton's office did not immediately reply to a request for comment Tuesday night. In his ruling, Hitner mentioned Dolly Parton. This guy, listen, I've never met him, but if you're going to fucking mention Dolly Parton in your ruling, you just gained a little more respect for me. As we know that death was announced Tuesday and basically criticized the law's definition of banning performances. That, and I quote, appeal to the pure, pure prurient interest, like puritanical. The prurient interest. Citing people who would chastise Pardon as a voluptuous sex symbol because of her big hair, flamboyant clothes, and breast exposure. That's really interesting. This is a quote. There are erotic elements in countless popular performances that could be subject to both civil and criminal penalties under SB12. That's what he wrote. Man, I like this guy. At least this particular case. One of the plaintiffs in the case who is a drag queen who performs under the name Bridget Bandit and, by the way, impersonates Dolly in her performances. Bandit celebrated the ruling on social media Tuesday, posting a screenshot of the decision and captioned it. Drag is free speech. And I'm sure it said bitches, but all we have is the B. She announced she would also perform as Parton, who gave her a rhinestone guitar as a gift in 2023 at an Austin bar Saturday in her honor.

We've expanded upon the founding ethos of the league to affirm that the league is a safe space for women, LGBTQ individuals, and anyone who finds meaning and belonging in a women's league. If you come see our games, you'll find the fields and the stands filled with folks of all makes and models competing to the best of their ability, having fun and celebrating each other. We had a banquet last week to mark the 50th anniversary, and it was amazing, to meet the extra vintage white haired lesbians who dared to be different and paved the way for us to follow in their footsteps. Softball has become one of my favorite parts of summer. Part of it is the love of sports, but mostly it's the love my teammates have for each other. It's really something special, being able to make intergenerational friendships, particularly for us queer people. Attached is a photo of my team after a game this summer, partly succeeding in the, and I quote, act like you just won pose. The league doesn't keep standings, I think because we all win when everyone gets to show up and be who they are. This is an extraordinary submission. Kara, thank you for this. 50 years. As a Rosie o' Donnell fan since I was a kid same I took the opportunity to see her final performance of Common Knowledge in New York City. Casey. I also went and saw Common Knowledge. I was very impressed with Rosie and I very much enjoyed the show. I hope you did too. Casey says my millennial heart is healing as she's stepping back into the spotlight. Indeed, I continued my lesbian adventures by taking a side quest on a business trip to Chicago. I thought I would be in the city flipping off a Trump building for you all. Instead I drove 6 hours round trip to see a women's professional baseball game. Fuck yeah. I'm so thankful that I took the time to be there for such a historic event. I never thought I'd see women's professional baseball exist in my time and it was completely worth the three hour flight and road trip to get there. I kept the theme going from the week before by wearing a Rockford Peaches shirt with Rosie ODonnell's number 22 from a league of Their Own. My non lesbian travel. A wildly last minute decision was to travel to Seattle to see my dad for the first time in 25 years. I had a falling out in my parents divorce and after I found out that he had a stroke. Stroke? My heart led me to look to go book the ticket. He was there visiting my little sister who also recently reconnected with him. An even bigger bonus was time with my niece and nephew who I don't see very often as we live in opposite ends of the country. I never thought that this day would come. But the stroke has turned him into a soft and loving man that just wants to love and be loved. The anger and emotional abuse of the past no longer exists within him. I'm going to have to process a whole lot in therapy now that all of this has happened, but I am so thankful that I took the leap for my pod pet tariff. I've attached a picture, a photo of Seattle that I took from our harbor tour that we took as a family, a Titanic style shot I forced my niece to take, and an absolutely ridiculous window display that I found in the Seattle airport. Thank you for all you do. Now I am off to catch up on the episodes of the Daily Beans that I missed while Getting to know my dad again. A sentence I never thought I'd say.

So, common knowledge, It's a one woman show. It is. And I think a lot of people thought it was gonna be standup, like her new hour, standup. And it's not. Most of the story is about raising neurodivergent non binary child. Oh, wow. And it's very powerful. Talks about why, just briefly, she moved to Ireland, and there's a tiny bit of politics in there, and I think people wanted more, and I don't think they knew what to expect. But it's Rosie telling stories on stage, and I think for coming back into the spotlight and doing it in a one woman show, it was wonderful.

Ogallala. Let's find out if that's right. Send in corrections. The lake was built on the Nebraska Sandhills. It's the Largest dune formation in the Western hemisphere. Formed from granite and eroded from the Rocky Mountains, this huge lake is drawn down each year for irrigation. So we were a little disappointed to find that it only had 25% capacity. But that made a lot of beach area for Scout to run. I've enclosed a picture of our beautiful sunset with an approaching thunderstorm. And me with our cheesy North America sticker map now complete. Oh, and Scout has checked off 47 states, making her a pretty well traveled dog. You and Dana keep us awake and entertained on our drives with all of your podcasts.
