msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Monday, August 31, 2026. Today, Judge Talwani in Boston has once again blocked Trump's efforts to curt mail in voting. More than 1.2 million Texas voters have been flagged for suspension. Wyoming's Republican governor calls for an investigation into Justice Department primary election poll watchers. Trump calls on the FCC to help him rig polls in his favor. Rep. Jim Clyburn has endorsed expanding the supreme court to include 13 justices. Military leaders have warned Hegseth against continuing the war in Iran as the US Arsenal becomes severely depleted. Senator Ron Wyden has called for a criminal investigation into RFK Jr. For lying to Congress during his confirmation hearing. The three fired journalists from Stars and Stripes have filed a lawsuit against the Pentagon. A Filipino nurse has been detained by ICE in Arizona. Donald Trump refuses to attend the ground 0911 memorial service because they won't let him speak. And right winger Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported to the UK by ice. I'm Allison Gill.
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Quite an eventful weekend in the news, my friend. How are you?
It is indeed. I'm good, I'm good. It's, Sunday. Yeah, it was a good weekend. How are you?
I'm all right. Got my stitches out Friday.
Yes, indeed. And your face looks beautiful.
Thank you, everyone. You can come and see it over on the Beans Talk, the video podcast we do every day. that's also where we'll be talking about Jim Clyburn supporting the expansion of the Supreme Court to 13 justices and why that is such a huge deal, Dana, for Jim Clyburn, the bellwether of our party, the guy who moves the entire party when he speaks. We'll also be chatting on the Beans Talk about the deportation of Milo Yiannopoulos, the right wing, you know, used to be gay, but is still gay guy.
Oh, God. He's just. He's a pos. Like, I don't even know what to say about him. He thinks he's someone. He's just. We'll talk more about him on the Beans. Well, you'll be able to look up Milo on your own. I don't want to say too many horrible things about another person, but he's kind of a piece of garbage.
He is, definitely.
Yeah.
Worked for, Steve Bannon at Breitbart. Worked for Marjorie Taylor Greene as an unpaid advisor, whatever that means for a while. now he's with, you know, trying to support Tucker Carlson to remove Trump from office. And, also I think he worked for Kanye west for a while.
Yeah, that tells you who he is. Also last week we were watching closely, as you well know, for Judge Talwani to reblock Trump's bid to destroy vote by mail, and she did so on Thursday night. Since the rule was finalized by the usps, the Supreme Court's decision to allow Trump to move forward is now moot. And we'll be watching those cases closely in the coming weeks and of course, keep you up to date.
Yes, of course. And Andy McCabe and I went over that whole ordeal, the mail in ballot up and down with the Supreme Court on yesterday's episode of Unjustified. So check that out. We also discussed the news that three, the three stars and stripes journalists that the Pentagon fired after they reported on what was really going on on the Abraham Lincoln.
They're now suing the Pentagon and the Pentagon has walked back a little and they're actually allowing these three reporters to stay on their jobs for another week as the petition for a restraining order to fully reinstate them is considered by. So definitely check out yesterday's episode of Unjustified. We covered a lot of stuff. And Dana, more than 1.2 million Texans Texas voters need to go and make sure their addresses are up to date ahead of the November election. According to the Texas Secretary of State's Office, those voters on what the state calls its voter suspense list is a problem. Right. That means election officials have reason to believe a voter no longer lives at the address listed in their registration. This is just a way to purge voter rolls is what it is. So please, please, please your voter registration, whether you're in Texas or no matter what state you live in, or if you're abroad, you can check out your registration@vote.org thanks, Allison.
And the Republican governor of Wyoming is asking the state attorney general to investigate what some Justice Department poll watchers did during the state's primary elections just a couple weeks ago. Apparently the poll watchers interviewed voters and asked to inspect vote tabulators and voting machines.
Gtfo, you dickbags.
Yep. And, like I said, this is the Republican governor is saying what the fuck's going on. So.
Yeah. And he's asked his Republican state attorney general to investigate this.
Good.
Yeah, I'm very glad about that. And I imagine if this, if this kind of quiet, small term limited Republican governor is willing to do this, then governors of other states are as well. Yeah.
All right.
And, by the way, that's something else we covered in depth on yesterday's unjustified so it's chock full that episode. Give it a listen. All right, lots of news to get to everybody. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, everybody. First up from the Guardian, Donald Trump's war in Iran has driven the US Military into a severe financial crisis, with the US Navy forced to transfer money from payroll to cover the costs of combat. That's according to documents seen by the Guardian in interviews with Navy officials, contractors and defense analysts. The U.S. israeli operation, which has depleted U.S. munition stockpiles and prompted retaliatory Iranian strikes that have wrecked strategic bases across the Middle east, is piling pressure on budgets across the military. One Pentagon memo about Navy funding seen by the Guardian warns that, quote, there are shortfalls in payroll accounts due to the department raiding them to fund combat operations.
Oh boy.
A Navy official who was briefed on how the service is planning to address the shortfalls said money has shifted around in imaginative ways. Quote, the money for payroll, he said, was robbed to pay for overseas contingencies and is being backfilled by money that hasn't been spent. They're backfilling payroll so we can get enough money to pay people with their paychecks. And from the Washington Post, several US Military leaders have advised Pete Kegseth that prolonging the large scale operation against Iran is unsustainable and it risks weakening their ability to confront threats elsewhere, including the US Homeland. That's according to people familiar with a recent assessment prepared for the Pentagon chief. These warnings, detailed for CAXF by the heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the four star commanders overseeing US Operations throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America, appear in the August 14th edition of the Secretary of Defense orders book. The SDOB. According to the people, the August 14th orders book directs some troops deployed in the Middle east to remain there through September and others on into 2027. The prospect of extending those forces further compelled the military leaders to voice their concern. Leaders of the US European Command, the US Pacific Command, and the US Southern Command, along with the Navy's top admiral, responded with what is characterized in the SDOB as a non conc. That means they disagree with the Secretary's order to extend their forces, but they will execute it. Nevertheless, the top military officials at European Command and Southern Command each cautioned Hegseth that lending their ships and surveillance aircraft to Central Command has degraded their ability to fulfill homeland defense obligations. Admiral Samuel Paparo, the chief of Pacific Command, disagreed with the level of support he was ordered to continually provide, including an aircraft carrier strike group and naval destroyers. Admiral Daryl Caudle, the chief of Naval operations, provided Hegseth with the dimmest picture, saying in the SDOB that the Navy cannot sustain its current level of support for the Iran conflict because there is no anticipated end date. So running out of paycheck money and yep. For all these admirals and four star generals and head of the Navy, Army Air Force to come and say basically give a non concur. Yeah, like we don't think you should do this but we're going to because you've ordered us to. That's really embarrassing for Hegseth. It's a big deal.
Absolutely. Absolutely. This next story is from the Guardian. A senior Democratic senator is calling for a criminal investigation into the US health secretary, RFK Jr following reporting by the Guardian that indicated that he lied. What? During Senate confirmation hearings last year. What Ron Wyden, who we love of Oregon said, and I quote, rfk's platform is built on lies and grifts that leave a trail of dead children in their wake. There are consequences for lying to Congress. The Guardian's reporting was based on letters that were obtained by the news outlet and the Associated Press following a Freedom of Information act lawsuit. Wyden said in a statement to the Guardian that he would be pressing Republican colleagues who currently control the Senate to issue a criminal referral of Kennedy to Department of Justice. And we know what would happen there but for a criminal investigation. And this is a quote. And when Democrats retake the majority in the Senate, RFK will be at the top of the list of Trump officials. The Finance Committee will hold accountable for endangering American families. That's what Wyden said. And by the way, he currently serves as the top Democrat on the Finance Committee. Also on Thursday, a government watchdog group, American Oversight, sent a letter to the Justice Department requesting that it immediately open an investigation into whether Kennedy violated the law by making false statements to Congress. Other Democratic officials called for Kennedy to be removed or leave office in the wake of this new reporting. Wyden was among the senators who asked Kennedy during two confirmation hearings last year about a 2019 trip he took to Samoa at a time when Kennedy was leading an anti vaxx group. Months later, a measles outbreak sickened thousands and killed 83 people, mostly children under five. When asked about the trip by Wyden and Ed Markey, the senator, by the way, from Massachusetts, Kennedy testified that his visit had, and I quote, nothing to do with vaccines. The newly obtained letters, it contradict the testimony in one, Kennedy explicitly told the Samoan prime minister. He wanted to study the measles, mumps and rubella, the MMR vaccine in the Pacific island nation and used the words vaccine or vaccination eight times.
I thought so, man. I'm glad they got these in a FOIA. Request me. So he swept in in 2019, told the prime minister to stop with the vaccines and killed 83 people in sick and thousands. That's RFK Jr next up from ABS. The family and loved ones of a 22 year old registered nurse, Marie Naku, known to family and friends as lc, are appealing for support from the community after she was detained by ICE in Phoenix, Arizona. Naku works as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. According to her boyfriend Joshua Perea, who's also a nurse. Naku has valid employment authorization. Perea said Naku was taken into ICE custody at the airport in Phoenix. As we've seen, these airport arrests are increasing now. A GoFundMe campaign organized by Parea states that she was later transferred to the Eloy Detention center in Arizona. Perea said Naku's detention came unexpectedly and has taken an emotional toll on those closest to her. Quote, her detention has put all of her family and friends into shock. That's what he told abs. We were not expecting something like this to happen, especially to someone who's been working legally with valid employment authorization. Now Parea said he and Naku met while attending college in Arizona and have been together for several years. Parea also relayed concerns that Naku shared with her loved ones about her treatment following her detention by ice. According to Parea, Naku told them she was held for hours without access to water and was provided food that she described as inedible and served on dirty plates. Naku also told her loved ones that she was restrained at both her arms and her legs while being transported alongside a group of male detainees. Naku's loved ones are now asking the public, including members of the Filipino community, to help spread awareness about her situation and assist with mounting legal expenses. So that's what we're doing. We're increasing awareness by talking about it here on the beans. Now, she came to the states legally, has a pending immigration case, valid work authorization and of course, no criminal history. For Naacu's family and loved ones, the immediate focus remains on securing the legal assistance she needs and bringing the young nurse home.
Thank you so much, Allison. This one's from the Times. President Trump is not planning to attend a ceremony in Manhattan for the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack. On the World Trade Center. And you know what? Fucking good. In part, though, why he's doing this. He wanted to deliver a speech at the annual event is long barred remarks from anybody. According to four people with knowledge of the events. Mr. Trump's team had conducted advance visits to the site and had initially signaled to officials in New York and in Washington that the president intended to visit the memorial space known as Ground Zero. This is from two of the people that had knowledge of the events. The president's interest in speaking on September 11 was conveyed to memorial planners in recent weeks, three of the people with knowledge of the event said. Since 2012, politicians have been barred from speaking at the site. The National September 11 Memorial Museum, which oversees the site, has worked rigorously to keep the venue nonpartisan and focused on the solemnity of the day. It is a solemn day. This motherfucker. Do you remember what he said? I don't know. It was Howard Stern. I don't remember what show it was. He's like, I guess I have the tallest building in New York now.
Yeah.
Anyone who says something about that, about losing the Twin Towers, you don't get to speak anywhere as far as I'm concerned about anything that has to do with 9, 11. There are other considerations that led, apparently, Donald honoring the day in Washington, including that he depart the next day for his golf course in Doonbeg, Ireland, where the Irish Open tournament's gonna take place. Are you kidding?
Yeah. So he's gonna go speak at the Pentagon. Cause they'll let him speak there.
Right?
Of course. Maggie Haberman called this out and said, he isn't going to go to New York because they won't let him talk because no one can talk during that ceremony. And, also because he doesn't want to tie up air traffic because he's going golfing right after.
Right. And Trump did some fucking whiny, true social post about Maggie Haberman, who, by the way, has tremendous access to the president. And no matter what she does, he doesn't seem to cut her off from that, which is really interesting. But he, of course, is like, she's worthless. She's fake news. She. I don't know why they hire her because she's the one that told the story, broke the story that. Because they wouldn't let him speak. Yep. He's not going.
Yep. he called her maggot and. Yeah. You know, said she was ugly or whatever. Like, just, you know, typical.
Typical Trump stuff.
all right, well, you know what? Like you said, good, good. We don't want you downtown New York anyway. Yeah, it's fine. They could come down to people like you reminding voters that they need to vote. Yeah. So mobilize us. Postcard, canvas, phone bank, text bank. Anything you can do. We've got 60 something days and we're up against billions of dollars and a, corrupt government that's going to pull every leverage.
Yeah.
To try to suppress the vote. So we need your help.
I agree. All right, next up from Freya Pronoun. She and her. The best good news is escaping the news and exchanging it for beautiful views. My dog and I love solo backpacking in Montana. We had a pretty epic night watching the lunar eclipse. We shared the lake with two very gregarious goats who pestered us all night under the full moon. Minimal sleep was had, but it's always worth it to escape the barrage of bad news for a few days. P.S. feel free to guess the breeds of my dog. Dog. His main half is pretty obvious here, but his other half is surprising mix of four breeds. Oh my God. Okay. Look at this sunset shot though. Also. My God.
Ah, now I want to go.
I know. And there's goats and there's. And we've got goats.
this looks like some sort of hound doggy beagle, but the gray looks kind of like a greyhound or a
Weimaraner, I would say being a Weimaraner for sure. And I have no idea. Pity, because why not? They're always in there.
Chow, chow. Right? There you go. Absolutely adorable dog. Let's see what we got here. We have beagle pit bull chow chow. Weimaraner.
What?
Shut up.
shut the front door.
We missed springer spaniel. That's it.
We missed springer spaniel.
The springer spaniel watched.
I was really just throwing chow chow in there because they're kind of like. Yeah, you know, they get around everywhere.
Oh, that beagle head though. I mean, that is a little beagle face on big.
Big old dog. Big beagle body. Little beagle face on the one around her body.
Thank you for the beautiful photos. I love that you travel alone by yourself. Like that makes me. I don't know. And just. I wish I did it more. Honestly. I'm a wonderful partner. But.
Yeah, with your pupper companion. Yeah. Thank you so much. Next up, Cheryl Pronoun. She and her. Hi Ag and dg. You two are the best. I want to give a shout out to our line dancing group Steppin Out AVL in Asheville, North Carolina at ah, last week's dance, they did several song swaps for Dolly songs, which is when we do familiar dances to different songs. They suggest that we all wear something sparkly to celebrate Dolly. And they held a 5050 to donate to Dolly's Imagination Library. The organizers of this group are amazing. Dana, can you do a show in Asheville? My wife and I will be first in line.
Ooh, I would love to. I love Asheville, North Carolina. Cheryl, I promise I will look into this beautiful place.
Yes, totally. So gorgeous. The one picture is of my wife and I dancing. The other picture is our founder, Jerry with a dolly candle. Look at this. This is awesome line dancing. And what's it called? Steppin out avl.
Shel, you better believe when I book this show, I'm be reaching out to you. Tell all these line dancers. To come on out. All right, next up from Allison, but not this one. Pronouns she and her. Hello Beans Queens. I have a shout out to the amazing LA county lifeguards. I know it's easy to stereotype them. Thanks, Baywatch. And let's face it, they are very good looking. But they also work really hard and well trained and very professional. I learned firsthand just how good they are when I found myself. Ooh. In some rough surf a couple of weeks ago. I'm a strong swimmer experiencing the ocean and I have been in some dicey situations. But on this day, the surf came up suddenly and was bigger than I've ever been in. I was trying to make my way in, but the current was too strong and the waves kept sucking me under even as I tried to duck them. I knew I was in trouble, so I immediately waved my arms and shouted for them. The lifeguard on duty didn't hesitate and dove in after me. He reached me and another person near me who was also in trouble. Another lifeguard swam out to help and after a few false starts, grappling with the crashing waves brought us both safely in. I will always be grateful for their dedication to keeping us safe. Next time you see lifeguard, say thanks. They're heroes. For my tariff, here's a pic of our weekly freeway visibility brigade over the 405. We did a Dolly tribute this week along with our usual good trouble. Keep up the great work. First of all, Alison, I am so glad you are okay.
Yeah, and hats off to the lifeguards. And you're totally right, the lifeguards in LA are some of the best in the world. Look at this rip dolly. There it is on the 405. Ice out. And I'll tell you what, if there's ever a place to get the most visibility in the universe, it's over the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. Anybody who's been on the 405, anywhere from LAX up to the up to Sepulveda, although, you know, past into the Valley, millions and millions and millions of cars. It's just insane. That is a crazy, crazy bit of freeway. So, Allison, well done. Next up from Sandy Pronoun. She and her Good morning AG and dg. In light of the Orange Menaces attempt to rename Lake Ontario, I wanted to share that I just got back from Stratford and had a wonderful time. We saw two shows that were just fabulous. Guys and Dolls blew us all away and we made it a point to tell everyone we met that we didn't vote for him and that they were all so incredibly nice just not worrying about any of it and telling us not to worry either. It'll always be Lake Ontario and we will survive him. We almost didn't want to cross the border back to Michigan for my pet tariff. I'd like to introduce you to Elliot and Livia. Elliot is the one who looks like he's just seen a ghost. And Livia is the one with resting face that practically says he's an idiot. I swear to go. The photo is not shopped or edited. I lost Livia three years ago, but Elliot's hanging in. He just turned 17. He's blind now, but he still brings me so much love and laughter. Thanks for all you do, ladies. Some days you're my only source of sanity in this crazy World, you and John Fugle sang Come on, November blue wave. Love you guys. Oh, my God, this picture.
I know. This is great.
The cat's like, what? And the other cat's like, God.
Yep. He's like, again, fantastic. This guy.
Oh, my goodness. All right, so, Montana line dancing in Asheville. The 405, and two amazing kitties and guys and dolls, and a visit to Lake Ontario. You guys are the best. Thank you so much for sending your good news in day after day. Keep sending it to us. If you've been thinking about it, you've been on the fence. Today's the day. Flood the zone with sunshine. Send us your good news. Do you have any final thoughts before we get out of here today, my friend?
Yeah, I want to just, announce a couple of. Well, just one new event that is really fun. I know. Do a lot of gal. This one is actually Gay Bingo. It's in Seattle. So if you're in the Seattle area, I'm hosting. So, you know, there's going to be comedy, there's going to be bingo, there's going to be drag queens, and it's for lifelong health for all. So it's an organization that makes sure that everyone gets the health care they need and so many other things. So it's November 7th. It's a Saturday night in Seattle, Washington. So go to my website, danagoldberg.com hit my tour schedule, go down to the November 7th date, and come join me for a really fun night in Seattle. Early bird tickets are available right now. They're only $100. I know for some of you, it may be out of reach. For others of you knowing that this is a gala fundraiser, but it's Gay Bingo. It might be the place you want to be. So go get tickets. I can't wait to meet you. Go get them now. Also, Chicago, still tickets available for September 23rd. It's a Wednesday night, and of course, if you're anywhere near the Albuquerque area, the Funny Fest is selling very quickly. I think Allison's going to drop by, maybe make an appearance. You can get those tickets on my website@danagoldberg.com on the tour schedule, too. And we've got a lineup of four outstanding LGBTQ comics to help benefit Equality New Mexico. So that's my new one. Those are my old ones. You can see all of the stuff on my tour schedule.
Yep, I got an hour of new material. I'm ready to go in Albuquerque. None of that is true, but I will be there, and I'll come say Hi. And it'll be great to see everybody. And what an uncle. Incredible cause.
Yeah.
All of the galas you do for all of the organizations you fundraise for, just brilliant. Thank you, my friend.
Thank you everybody.

Go to patreon.com the Daily Beans and we'll make sure that you get an invite to that.
