All right, we have a ton of news to get to today, so let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. First up, from Aaron Reed at Aaron in the Morning on Substack. Definitely go subscribe to that. The Democrat who made abandoning transgender people into the post 2024 capitulation script for moderate Democrats has now been abandoned himself by the voters of his own state. Congressman Seth Moulton, the originator of the current wave of anti transgender Democrats, blamed Democrats 2024 defeat in part on the party' for transgender people in the immediate aftermath of the election. Fear mongering over transgender athletes and calling trans girls male athletes who would run over his daughters on the playing field. His remarks sparked fury in his own state even as he opted to run for higher office, challenging Senator Ed Markey in the Massachusetts Democratic Senate primary. Rather than run away from transgender people. Though Markey used the moment to differentiate himself, championing transgender people at every turn. And the issue became a defining point of difference between the two candidates at debates and rallies. Now we have the final result. Markey has trounced Moulton, winning 65 to 35 in a race that some polls once showed as fairly close early on. And come January, Moulton will hold no elected office at all, having given up his safe house seat to run in 2024. In the aftermath of Kamala Harris's loss to Donald Trump, Seth Moulton became one of the earliest to embrace a new, albeit rare, line of thinking among some Democrats that transgender individuals were to blame for the election and that sports bans on transgender youth are good to embrace. Such bans have come with proposals to genitally inspect student athletes. And in Utah, officials secretly investigated a girl's sex all the way back to kindergarten after the parents of the girls she had defeated complaint. In an interview with the New York Times the day after Trump's victory, Moulton said, I have two little girls. I don't want HM them getting run over on a playing field by a male or a formerly male athlete. But as a Democrat, I'm supposed to be afraid to say that. Then, following the backlash, he doubled down in a Washington Post op ed titled I'm done with Democratic purity tests and declared that the backlash has only served to reinforce my original point. Well, backlash he received immediately after his comments, his constituents pushed back hundreds of people gathered outside his Salem office, waving pride flags, demanding to be heard. To say that his kids can get run over by people who are previously male shows not only his ignorance about what transgender is, it shows how he's willing to make the most vulnerable people in our community more vulnerable. That's Ward 5 Counselor Jeff Cohen, who spoke at that rally. Not long after organizers launched a concerted effort to primary him and remove him from office, Moulton attempted to sidestep that fight by giving up his safe house seat entirely and running for a higher office, instead challenging Senator Markey, the older Democratic incumbent, for his seat. His old seat will not miss him. On the same night Moulton lost, Dan Ko won the Democratic primary to replace him. Coe, a former senior Biden White House official and chief of staff to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, is heavily favored in November, and he pledges to, quote, fight to ensure transgender Americans have access to health care, education, and safe, welcoming communities. Now, when Markey took the stage Tuesday night to celebrate his victory, he made clear who he credited with helping him cross the finish line. The very person he put on the stage. The very first person was Tyler Hack, the transgender founder and executive director of the Christopher Street Project. That's a trans led political organization that made his race its marquee endorsement and he introduced Markey to the crowd. Hack celebrated Markey's allyship in stark terms, saying, quote, after the 2024 election, a lot of transgender people were terrified and I remember thinking, who's going to stay when people decide we're too controversial? When defending us stops being expedient? Who's going to stay? Ed Markey stayed. Excuse me, Senator, you stayed. Now when Markey took the microphone, he concurred, thanking Tyler Hack and the Christopher Street Project by name from the podium and said, I'm m so proud of your historic work. So congratulations to Senator Markey. Next up from the Times Hundreds of federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security have been assigned to intensive weeks long hunts for non citizens among the nation's registered voters, despite a complete absence of evidence of widespread fraud. And that's according to documents and training videos reviewed by the New York Times. Agents are scouring voter rolls managed by the states and they're using personally identifiable information about individual voters, such as their dates of birth and partial Social Security numbers to look them up on those rolls. And that's according to the documents. In some cases, investigators are effectively posing as individual voters by plugging their names and personal information into public facing websites run by top election officials in each state. Some of these sites declare they are meant for individual use, potentially raising privacy concerns. The extraordinary operation reveals the extent to which the Trump administration is searching for evidence of fraud ahead of the November elections. The government is privately calling the effort the unlawful voter initiative and is pulling agents from their normal duties, which include investigating serious crimes like human trafficking and terrorism. Core to the operation is a compilation of data on hundreds of thousands of voters from across the country. It's not clear if this is the same data the department cited when it announced in July that tens of thousands of noncitizens were registered in four states, a claim that proved to be vastly overstated. It is also not clear what the criteria were for assembling the data. Early examinations revealed that it includes some United States citizens, according to an individual who spoke on a condition of anonymity. According to training documents reviewed by the Times, the agents involved in the operation are part of the Fraud Detection and National security Directorate of U.S. citizenship and Immigration Services. They received a training video last week and were assigned voter data and to scour from the 50 state list. That's according to the person familiar with the training. Next up from Politico. The Justice Department has adopted a sweeping new legal interpretation designed to compel states to assist the Trump administration immigration crackdown. The new opinion from the Department of Office of Legal Counsel, the same office, legal counsel that gave the opinion that you can blow up boats in the Caribbean or that executive privilege includes private people that aren't part of the government that the President is near. But anyway, the Office of Legal Counsel, which provides advice to the Attorney General, it outlines a new path for the federal government to yank federal funding from states that don't aid the administration's mass deportation push. This is such a violation of the 10th amendment, the anti commandeering clause, and, I hope there's going to be a lawsuit. But it says that any state that draws on massive federal programs to provide financial assistance to low income residents, which every state does, so every state must report to the Trump administration any immigrant it believes is residing in the country illegally. Now, prior administrations concluded that the requirement to report known undocumented immigrants applied only to state agencies implementing those federal programs. But the new opinion instead determined that the reporting requirement extends to the entire government of a state that receives federal funding through either the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs and or the Supplemental Security Income, two enormous safety net programs for low income families as well as the elderly and the disabled. So there's going to be a lawsuit in three, two, one. There's somebody is going to sue about this. You know, I said, I think I posted on social media. I'm like, yeah, no, we're not going to do that. Sue us. Love California. Like, it's just not going to happen. So we'll keep an eye on that. Next up from Project Saltbox, an amazing group of people over on Substack. Immigration and Customs Enforcement awarded Garda World Federal Services a contract worth up to $382 million to provide armed around the clock ground transportation for people taken into custody under the 287 program in all 254 Texas counties. The award posted to SAM M.gov on Monday night brings ICE's total commitments to this company, which is Canada based, to more $700 million in the past six months. About 100 million of the Texas contract has been obligated. So far this year, the company's federal work has veered sharply toward immigration enforcement. Garda World Federal Services is the American arm of Garda World. That's a security company based in Montreal, Quebec. And under the terms of the transportation Award, the company is responsible for dispatch, documentation, fleet readiness reporting and quality control and for maintaining a secure portal, according to the contract description. So human trafficking, its homeland security award this year, all of them together total more than three times what it received from the State Department and Defense Department combined. This is reversing a pattern that defined its Federal business since 2018. Used to do most of its business with State and the DoD. In March, ICE awarded Garda World $313 million to convert a warehouse in Surprise, Arizona, and into a detention center. That work paused after a lawsuit brought by Chris Mays, the Arizona attorney general, got an injunction. Last week, the company received another $17 million to convert an ICE owned shipping warehouse in San Antonio into a detention center. That contract covers construction and what ICE calls wraparound services, the operational health and staffing work needed to run the facility. All right, next up, from the Times, some better news. Voters in Independence, Missouri, on Tuesday appear to have recalled the city council member who backed billions of dollars in tax breaks for a data center. One of the first such removals amid growing national backlash against the giant warehouse is the power artificial intelligence. In the First District of Independence, 1,118 residents cast votes to recall John Perkins. While 525 people voted against it, according to the Jackson County Board of Elections website, only a handful of ballots were still outstanding. Mr. Perkins, who was years away from reelection, by the way, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. He previously told the Times that the argument for the recall had no merit and that a single vote shouldn't outweigh years of work for his constituents. Guess what? McKenna Cobb, who's 31 and one of the recall's organizers, said she had spent Tuesday knocking on doors and driving community members to the polls. The votes showed that, quote, our voices matter and these smaller elections really, really matter. In Independence, a city of 121,000 next to Kansas City, residents didn't wait and instead forced Tuesday's recall vote. The Dutch company Nebius bought land in the outskirts of the city last year and then asked for billions of dollars in tax breaks for the project. City officials said they believed it would be a boon for the place that had struggled financially, filling the city's coffers with money for education and infrastructure. In March, Mr. Perkins joined four other members of City Council to grant more than $6 billion in tax breaks to the $150 billion Nebias project. the time of the vote, he said that the city had spent years trying to develop the land and that it had negotiated protections for residents against utility price spikes. Yeah, okay, but how Are you going to economically drive your city, with a warehouse that does nothing? Maybe you'll get some construction jobs short term, but these places aren't staffed, not enough to create jobs. Amount, amount of jobs that pay kind of the kind of money that matters for economic growth in your area. All it does is pollute the shit out of it. And as we know, they always disproportionately impact minority neighborhoods. Next up from Politico. President Donald Trump has a vision for next week's GOP convention in Dallas, a televised spectacle putting Republican candidates in front of midterm voters and top party donors just two months before Election Day, with Trump himself headlining the show. But a Politico survey of more than 70 Republican candidates and members revealed that most either do not plan to attend or are still weighing whether to go. Dozens more have declined to share their plans. The 45 Republicans cited a variety of reasons for skipping the first midterm convention put on by the major party in more than four decades. Some cited prior obligations like fundraisers or events in their districts that were planned before the convention was scheduled in June. Others had personal conflicts like weddings and family events. Others raised qualms about the five figure minimum fees that the party officials want attending lawmakers to pay to join. Others were busy washing their hair, watching paint dry and watching flies fuck. Like, what? Nobody wants to go to this thing. And some Republicans in tough races are steering clear of the gathering, which has come to be called trumpapalooza in some GOP circles, as they face growing hesitation about associating themselves with the polarizing president so close to an election. Quote, I just felt I'd be more useful in my district. That's Tom Barrett, who's facing a tough campaign to keep his central Michigan seat. I travel a lot for this job, and if I can be back home and see my family and do the job back home, that's sort of what I lean toward doing. Asked if the president's remarks might cause problems back home, Barrett said, I can't control what the president's going to say at the convention, but I can control where I'm at and what I'm doing. now. Several other Republicans in key races targeted by Democrats say they aren't committing to attempt. I'm going to be in my district. That's Zach Nunn from Iowa. When he was asked about his plans, Rob Bresnahan from Pennsylvania said, I'm not sure yet. Jeff Heard from Colorado isn't planning to go at all. That's according to people granted anonymity to describe his decision. Nick Lalota from New York said he instead plans to visit colleges with his daughter. Now Trump will be the headline speaker of the two day convention inside the American Airlines center with JD Vance also set to address Republicans. Most top House and Senate GOP leaders will be there, Mike Johnson, for example, John Thune, Senate majority leader, some potential 2028 presidential contenders, Ted Cruz, for example, will be in attendance, as will some Senate Republicans from marquee battleground races. But most people are like, m, I got other stuff I need to do. I mean we just covered that one guy who completely erased all mentions of Trump from his website. We've got Kylie out here in California who switched parties to independent because he doesn't want to be associated with the Republicans. And Donald Trump not looking good for the midterms for them. That's why they're doing everything they can to cheat. All right, next up from NBC, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier arrived Wednesday at a port in eastern Thailand where thousands 5,000 US sailors and marines are disembarking for the first time in more than 280 days after a record setting deployment in the Middle East. The toll of the more than nine month deployment, most of it spent supporting military operations in the US Israeli war with Iran, was visible on the carrier as it pulled into the port in the Chonburi Province in Thailand. Paint has worn off and the metal underneath is rusted on this 1000 foot warship. 1100ft, which is one of the largest in the world. The Lincoln is in Thailand for a four day rest and relaxation stop on its way home to San Diego after having spent weeks in the headlines as the lengthy deployment raised concerns about supply shortages and the effect on sailors mental health. The US Navy confirmed the ship's arrival in a statement saying the Lincoln strike group arrived while the destroyer USS Peterson docked nearby in Sriracha. And the guided missile cruiser the Robert Smalls went to Mapta Foot in the neighboring Rayong Province. The Navy said it was the Lincoln's first full port stop after 286 days at sea since the deployment began in November. They'll enjoy four days of liberty in a popular tourist area. Well, they'll enjoy three days and one day of watch. So they'll all rotate their one day of watching and then three days of liberty. So that's what's going on with the USS Abraham Lincoln. Oh, my friend, I'm really, really excited. We're teaming up again. We do this every election cycle to use math in order to find out where our dollars can have the most impact. And, you know, we started with Blue Wave California, and now we're expanding to Blue Wave Nation. And we're having a huge kickoff tomorrow, September 4, Friday. Because that will put us 60 days out from the midterm elections. Talk a little bit about the impact fund and now Blue Wave Nation.
Yeah, I mean, first of all, 60 days, y', all, two months out. I don't want people to hit snooze on that alarm and pull the covers over their heads. Now is the time to have that alarm go off and hop out and get into action and do the work. Because, the midterms are here. And, you know, we've been working together, you know, for a long time, you know, and last midterms we did an amazing job, with your listeners, donating a lot of money to help us in the midterms. We raised about 300, a little over $300,000 last time around. So, we've been working on our California fund. And BlueWave California always wanted to become Blue Wave Nation, but, you know, a year ago, we didn't think we really had a shot at the Senate. Can't wait to flip that seat. it's very close to your heart. I know he's been trying to flip
that seat and he keeps, like, whack a mole. He'll show up in another district and then. So, yeah, we've been trying to flip that.
He almost moved to Texas. He threatened to go to Texas instead. He's hiding well.
Why he should have just ran in Florida 19 with the Illinois guy, lady and the New York guy, Chris Collins and the North Carolina guy, Madison Cawthorne. Like, nobody from Florida ran in the Florida 19.
Apparently there are no rules in Florida. And I mean, everybody, you know, there's a lot of people who move there, so I guess it's a carpetbagger state anyway. But, anyway, the, the last two races are, Arizona one and Arizona six. That's Amish Shah and Joanna Mendoza. And the reason why we add those to our amazing California flips is because we have such a strong base here in the Golden State with our volunteers and our donors that we're able to export some of that to our neighboring sister state of Arizona. So if you're looking for a place that really needs the money and where those resources will be put to use, here's your impact fund.
Yeah. And explain a little bit without getting too wonky about the math. Like, I remember when, for example, Amy McGrath was running and she raised millions and millions and millions of dollars and people were still donating to her campaign. But there were, other campaigns where, you know, if a certain dollar amount gets you a certain amount of votes, you want to go where it's going to be closer and put your dollar there to somebo who doesn't have already more money than they can spend so that those smaller races or other races that might be close, like Sherrod brown, is a 50, 50 toss up from decision desk right now. Every single vote is going to matter in a statewide race like that because the gerrymandering that goes on in Ohio doesn't count in a statewide Senate race. Every single vote. And so if you, let's say this is probably not true, but let's say for every thousand dollars you spend, you might get three votes. Those three votes matter a little bit more in Ohio than they would somewhere else. And so that's kind of how the math works a little bit. I mean, I know that there's much more complexity to the formulas about how the impact of the dollar works, but that's how you chose these eight particular elections to support.
Yeah. And that, I mean, that back of the napkin math is actually, when you're Talking about Ohio, $1,000 goes farther in Ohio than it does in California. California, right. Just because the, the media market is, less expensive. So, someone can really make an impact on these.
And we aren't worrying about the senators here in California.

I don't even know if they're running because they're fine. But yes, to your point. Also, Sherrod Brown, we're doing blue, Wave Nation, is co hosting a fundraiser for him on September, 15th in Los Angeles. they need the resources. So I like to say these are eight races that we can win, and we must win. we don't want to, at this stage of the game, throw money at races that, you know, we don't. We're not sure we can win, first of all. And, you know, you mentioned Amy McGrath. You and I have talked about this a lot. There's always the bright, shiny object and the big, you know, villains that we want to defeat. That may not be the most strategic use of our funds. And, there's other places, like Texas. I really think we have a shot at flipping Texas. I mean, we've been working on that. Beto built great infrastructure there. The organizers there are amazing. I think Texas is a lot more purple than people think. But we're not putting Talarico, who is an amazing candidate, on this fund because he's been a prodigious fundraiser. He's raised a ton of money. So, you know, we want to lead with, like you said, the math, and the strategy and not necessarily our heart. if you have unlimited resources, please donate everywhere. You know, the oligarchs have us outnumbered, you know, like crazy. Like, the Republicans have outraged us because of those huge, you know, dark money super PACs, by enormous proportions. You know, we are going to be outspent in this election, no doubt.
Outspent? Yeah. I don't think we're outnumbered. I think there's a lot of few.
We are not out there.
They just have a lot more money than we do.
That's right. That's exactly right. We have the people power, we have the grassroots power, and that's what this is all about.
Excellent. Now, these are all flips. That's something else that we're focusing on here, you know, with this impact fund for Blue Wave Nation is flip opportunities. And again, like you said, there are other flip opportunities, but we want to go where our dollar has the most impact. Oh, the times we live in, my friend. So, let's talk a little bit about the 60 day run up. Our fund here is going to be available and active for every day up until the midterm elections. And that is right around the corner. So I think that the message is, when you've got a dollar to give, where does it go the furthest? I think that you're looking at something like Blue Wave Nation.
Yeah, I mean, that's what's going to resonate. That's what people are looking for. People are just getting activated now. I think a lot of your listeners, obviously are very focused, have been very activated and doing a lot for a while. So this is something that you can share with your friends and family members. because now that we're at the two month mark, people really feel, that the midterms are here. and like I said, this is existential. I was just talking on with Jason, my co host, on the practivist pod we were recording for tomorrow's show right before we doing this interview and we say every cycle that this is the most important election of our lives. And we've just learned that every election now is existential. It is really, really important that we all get involved and take some kind of action, whatever is in our capacity to do. but you know, like I said, the alarm has gone off now. the Trump regime is doing everything in their power to disenfranchise voters. I know you are on the front lines of now requesting FOIA requests from the around this whistleblower, and the postal service.
So, Epstein, training videos, Doge emails. I think I got a baker's dozen out there.
Man, you're doing such incredible work. But it's really important, like the resources that these candidates have, they need them because they're going to have to do extra voter education. They're going to be out there telling voters to vote early, to actually take their vote to vote centers or you know, maybe not drop them in the mail right now. You know, like, we need bigger voter protection teams, ballot curing teams.
What happens if you don't get your ballot in the mail because of this? You know, these shenanigans, they'll. That's the education that you're talking about and that's where they're.
Exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's not just about knocking doors and making phone calls, which also, you know, is very, very important. But you know, I think a lot of your listeners know that Emily in Emily's list stands for Early Money is like yeast. the, the earlier they have the money, the earlier they have recurring donations. They're able to make their plan and know where their resources can go. So let's blow this fund up. Let's blow up these candidates accounts so that they can do all the things that they need to do to win so that on November 4th we know that we did everything we could and don't have any regrets about, stones that were left unturned.

For that, he was sequestered to base and placed under a gag order. Once released from base, he did what any patriot and brave soldier should do and spoke out again on cnn, but was swiftly arrested and jailed.
