Msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, September 18, 2026. Today, a federal judge has blocked Trump from making any major changes to the center, including demolition, without a 30 day notice to the court. Turkey A detains dozens in a crackdown on the LGBTQ community. Trump officials admit the triumphal arch will harm historic sites, but it's pushing ahead anyhow. A United nations human rights expert group. They have found reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed war crimes in Iran. The Department of Health and Human Services wants to relax the rules for informed consent on human research subjects. Minnesota state authorities have arrested ICE agent Christian Castro for shooting a Venezuelan man and lying about it. The man who threw vinegar at Representative Ilhan Omar has been sentenced to 14 months in prison. And the White House has withdrawn the nominee for ICE director. I'm Alison Gill.
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
We did it. We made it to Friday.
We did indeed. It was a long week. we did it together. We did it with you.
Yes, the Kennedy center made it to Friday.
For now. Shit.
Now he wants to carve his name on the front of the old, U.S. pIs building. So it's just ridiculous.
Can we talk about the irony that he wants to carve his name on the front of the piss building?
It's the Peace Institute, but, yeah, I know, it's. He just wants his name everywhere, and if he can't have it, he'll tear it down.
He's such a piece of shit. I just can't. We all know that. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. He wants to leave some sort of a legacy because he's the worst fucking president this country's ever had, and this is the way he thinks it's going to happen. And he's wrong.
Well, I have news for him. We're tearing it all down.
Yeah, we are.
Later in the show, it's Friday, so we're going to be talking to John Fugelsang for Fugalsang Fridays. As you know, he hosts the John Fugalsang show on SiriusXM progress channel127. He's also new York Times bestselling author of the Separation of Church and Hate. He's got his new book coming out. It's called Fake Christians.
Nice.
But, we're going to talk about that, his new book, and a couple of other things later in the show. But we have a lot of news to get to today, so let's hit the Hot notes. Hot notes. First up, from NBC human rights experts commissioned by the UN's top human rights body say they have found reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed war crimes in two strikes in Iran, including on a school in the southern city of Manab. The International Fact Finding Mission on Iran says the findings center, on a pair of airstrikes that killed at least 178 civilians, including children and women. The UN backed team cited the allegations of war crimes over two strikes. One, as we said, involving Tomahawk missiles on the clearly identifiable school and another airstrike where precision strike missiles dispersed tungsten pellets over a clearly identifiable sports complex and residential area in the southern city of Le Merde, also that same day, February 28th. The fact finding mission on Iran, shared by jurist Sarah Hossain of Bangladesh, is made up of independent experts and was created in 2022 by the Human Rights Council, which is the UN's top human rights body.
All right, thank you so much, Alison. And Turkish authorities, this is a horrible story. They've used accusations of obscenity to justify a wave of raids and arrests targeting LGBTQ community, which has grown to include journalists, as well as more than 150 that were arrested during protests against the raids. Starting the early hours of Sunday, Turkish police carried out simultaneous raids on the offices of LGBTQ rights organizations and HIV advocacy groups in the cities of Istanbul, the capital Ankara and the coastal city of Azmir, as well as the cities of, Aden, Aiden and Mersin. Are those correct, Alison?
I, think so. I think so. But if anyone has a correction, please feel free to send them to us, please.
Absolutely. And this is a quote. This is the widest crackdown on LGBTQ people in recent years. This is Emma Sinclair Webb and she's with the Human Rights Watch. Video released by Turkish Interior Ministry showed police rummaging through filing cabinets, grabbing rainbow flags and leading people away in handcuffs, as well as raiding nightclubs in the homes of activists. Prosecutors in IST said officials seized digital equipment, drugs and firearm, as well as arresting dozens of people in the raids. Rights groups tracking the rest believe that 62 people have been held on remand, but more than 100 were detained. Sinclair Webb, who accused authorities of attempting to smear and criminalize LGBTQ advocacy, said, we believe this includes others not associated with LGBTQ groups detained for drug and prostitution offenses. Now, homosexuality is not illegal in Turke. Prosecutors in Ankara have accused LGBTQ rights groups of, violating laws prohibiting obscenity and those governing NGOs, although formal charges remain opaque. Turkey's Justice Minister, Ekan Gurlak said that raids and arrests across the country were part of an operation entitled My Family is Safe. I know. And claimed the sweep was intended to, and I quote, protect our children, the institution of the family and. And the social order. Fuck off.
There's that fucking shit again.
Yep. The Justice Minister linked the launch of the quote, My Family is Safe campaign to a directive launched by President Erdogan declaring. Declaring that he called a decade of the family and population and aiming to boost birth rates. Ugh. we're going to show you some video, by the way, of the rates on today's episode of Beans Talk, so please join us there. We're also going to cover what human rights activists are doing to fight back. A going to be a great episode.
Yeah, that's, so terrifying to. To see those videos of people, arresting protesters just standing in solidarity with the LGBTQ community. And we'll talk about that on Beans Talk, like you said. All right, no one's covering this yet that I can find, at least outside of a few people on Instagram, like Sarah Shower. And I'm glad she posted this because it was brought to my attention. But the Department of Health and Human Services is working on a proposed rule to change what's known as the common rule. The Common rul, also known as the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects, is the common ethical standard for publicly funded research in the United States. The common rule outlines the basic requirements, such as the composition and function of the Institutional Review Board, or the irb. Also criteria for IRB approval and informed consent requirements. And that's where this is centered on. According to the Office of Information and Regulatory affairs, the foundational framework for human subjects protection in the United States was established by the National Research act of 1974 in response to widespread public concern over unethical biomedical and behavioral research practices. Following its passage, the then Department of Health, Education and Welfare issued the first ever version of 45 CFR part 46. That's the common rule. These regulations establish institutional Review boards as the key mechanism for oversight and ethical review of human subject research. And while these protections remain vital, the current regulatory framework, the Trump administration says, no longer reflects the realities of modern research. They say without changes, scientific breakthroughs can be impeded. They want to expand exemptions, incorporate flexibilities, and clarify key terms, such as redefining the term undue influence. Yes, you heard that right. They want to redefine undue influence. And undue influence in research happens when excessive, unwarranted, or inappropriate reward Incentive or power dynamic impairs a human subject's ability to make a free and objective decision.
Oh, boy.
The Department anticipates that this proposed rule would generate significant quantifiable and unquantifiable deregulatory benefits by improving efficiency and enabling a more risk based application of human subjects protections requirements by expanding flexibilities for low risk research activities and clarifying existing requirements. The Trump administration says the proposed rule is expected to reduce administrative burden on investigators, institutions, and institutional review boards, while helping accelerate scientific discovery, improve health care delivery practices, and support more timely development of treatments and interventions that benefit public health. Now, I have never heard of wanting to limit the scope of protection for human research subjects according to common rule. The IRB should be particularly cognizant of the special problems of research that involve a category of subjects who are vulnerable to coercion or undue influence. The thing they want to change the definition of. And that includes children, prisoners, individuals with impaired decision making capacity, economically disadvantaged persons, educationally disadvantaged persons. That's what they want to fuck with. Now, the common rule was written because historical human experiments, such as the Tuskegee syphilis study and Nazi medical experiments, exposed severe abuses of power and lack of consent in research. Now, once I get more information on this, or once the actual rule with the proposed changes and the redefinition of, undue influence is published, I will let you know more specifically what they're trying to do. But this is very chilling.
Yeah, it's fucking chilling. Especially when they're rounding up people with no fucking rhyme or reason because they say that they're here, quote, unquote, illegally, like I'm telling you. I know they don't like when people compare things to Nazi Germany. How the fuck do you think it started?
Mm. Mm.
This is terrifying.
Alison.
Ah, thank you for the story. Obviously, we're gonna keep you. Like Allison said, we're gonna keep you posted when the actual ruling comes out. Oh, my God. Okay, that one actually made me a little bit nauseous. This one's from the Post. Federal officials acknowledged that President Trump's planned triumphal arc will unavoidably harm historic sites. It built as planned, but they say the project must move forward. According to a National Park Service document and emails obtained by the Washington Post, national park officials agree that the arch would adversely affect Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and several dozen other historic sites. And this is a quote. The adverse effects cannot fully be avoided. That's what the Park Service officials wrote in a document Circulated Tuesday and obtained by the Washington Post. But they said the project cannot be constructed somewhere else because, and I quote, the proposed location and Memorial Circle is central to the undertaking. What? That's according to the NPS document. Officials also said that they would manage construction to reduce interference with burials at the cemetery and document the current landscape before construction begins. Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah. I have a place for it to go. Right up Trump's ass, why don't we? That's where we build it.
That won't bother anyone.
Except, you know, half of the Republican Party, since that's where they are.
Yikes. All right, all right, so we've got some ICE news. This is, this is some good news here. This is from the Minnesota Star Tribune. Minnesota law enforcement arrested the ICE agent Wednesday in the shooting of the Venezuelan immigrant in Minneapolis during Operation Metro Surge, culminating months of delays and legal maneuvers and efforts to bring him to the state to answer for his crimes. Christian Castro, who's 52, was stopped by agents with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in a traffic stop near his attorney's office in Minneapolis and taken to the Hennepin County Jail where he's currently being held. That means they were staking him out because, remember, Governor Abbott wouldn't extradite him.
Yep.
So they've caught him in a traffic stop near his attorney's office. Wild Castro was scheduled to make a federal court appearance on Friday and will now make his first appearance in Hennepin County District Court the day before Thursday afternoon. Hennepin County Jail records show Castro was booked just after 4pm Wednesday on four counts of second degree assault with a deadly weapon, charges leveled against him by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in May. You'll recall he was arrested in Texas, but as I said, Governor Abbott refused to extradite him. Then the feds charged him, but only with lying, not with the assault with a deadly weapon. And that was against the strong objections of the Department of Justice prosecutor who was working on the case, who was then fired by Todd Blanche. Mr. Castro, quote, was taken into custody by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension earlier today in Minneapolis. We're grateful to the BCA for their collaboration throughout. That's Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty in a statement, who went on to say, Governor Abbott's attempt to shield Mr. Castro from accountability has failed and we look forward to commencing our prosecution. And, remember, Abbott was, like, making fun of them after he let Castro out of jail in Texas. Also from Minnesota Public Radio, the man who sprayed vinegar At Representative Ilhan Omar during a Minneapolis town hall. He was sentenced today, 14 months in prison after reaching a deal with prosecutors. The sentencing of 56 year old Anthony Kazmerchak came. Came, nearly eight months after the assault. At the time, the Twin Cities was facing an immigration crackdown that led to angry protests, arrests, and the killing of two U.S. citizens. As we know, Alex Preddy and Renee Good. Kazmarchak was also sentenced to three years of supervised release, which includes no contact with Omar. U.S. marshals escorted him from the courtroom after he was sentenced. Good.
You? Yeah.
And from Politico, The White House on Thursday withdrew the nomination of Oklahoma State Trooper Lance Schroyer to lead ICE after a Republican blocked his confirmation hearing. Schroyer's nomination stalled after Senate Homeland Security Chair Rand Paul, a foe of Homeland Security Secretary Mark Twain, requested that the Department of Homeland Security provide his committee with more information about the investigation into two ICE and Border Patrol agents accused of killing those two U.S. citizens. I mentioned in Minneapolis in January. Pretty shocking coming from Rand Paul.
Yeah. Seriously.
By the way, ICE hasn't had a director, I think, since 2018.
Oh, my God. Yeah. All right, this is from the Guardian. A federal judge has ordered Donald Trump's administration to give at least 30 days notice before moving to demolish the John F. Kennedy center for Performing Arts after the US President warned that it could be, quote, unquote, ripped down. U.S. district Judge Christopher Cooper issued the order on Thursday after lawyers for Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, submitted evidence of Trump's comments and sought clarification over whether the building could be closed or bulldozed. Trump said on Wednesday that his administration deserved recognition for its efforts to renovate the Kennedy center, including putting his name on the National Arts Complex in Washington. And I quote, I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition because, frankly, if we don't do that, it's going to close. That's what he told reporters in Charlotte, North Carolina, when he was trying to drum up votes for Republicans. He said it'll end up being ripped down. They also submitted an Agence France Press. What is that? An afp, Am I saying that correctly? Agence France.
Oh, Agence France Press, that's a news outlet in France.
Thank you. they have submitted a photograph showing Trump on board Air Force One, apparently looking at a placard bearing the words Kennedy Center Demolished. This fucker is going to tear it down because there have been no consequences for any of his goddamn actions. Just watch.
Yeah, and what were we saying? What Were you and I saying he's just going to tear it down, isn't he?
Yep.
That's what we were all very concerned about. And then Sim. Yeah. That, that press agency in France caught a picture of him looking at like a poster when he was sitting in Air Force One.
That had like a headline. I don't know if it was a fake newspaper poster or what the hell sort of Natalie harp, you know, Dr. Feelgood poster they were showing him at the moment or if he was just trolling everyone knowing that somebody'd get a picture of it.
Possible.
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean it is a really big fucking headline that was in the other window when he's sitting in one window and you can see the headline in the other window of Air Force One. So I wouldn't be surprised.
Right? Yeah. Well, they also got discovery, by the way, in this case, Norm Eisen and rep. Joyce Beatty got limited discovery on discussions about demolishing the Kennedy Center. So we might actually see more evidence of their communications at least. And maybe, maybe we'll even get that poster or whatever the hell that was. All right everybody, we're going to be right back with John Fugle saying, followed by the good news. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
We'll be right back.

Thank you, Dr. Gill. So good to be here. And I hope everyone's enjoying their $5,000, dividend checks from Trump.
Right. Well, I spent it all on champagne for when it happens.
Oh, did you really? Oh, that's nice. Yeah. Yeah, it's nice to be able to just get up and say, Alexa, give 250 million people $5,000 a piece. Okay.
Did it do that?
All right.
23 million in investment. So a trillion just lying around. I mean, we're borrowing from our kids to pay ourselves. I think that's what we're doing here. So I guess it's traditional American.
Yeah, if you believe it's going to happen. Any of it. I mean, he.
Let me tell you, as soon as I get my Doge check, I'll start getting excited about this one.
He basically made it impossible. He said the Republicans had to retain the House and the Senate, which isn't gonna happen.
And that's a bribe. I mean, it's a bribe. It was a if, then quid pro quo. He did it in a speech.
Oh, well, this Supreme Court takes bribery to mean something else, so, this is probably just a gratuity. according to. True.
Yeah. They think bribery is encouragement. Democratic encouragement.
Right, right. I mean, we, you know, we could get luxury RVs, but. No, no, that's, that's, that's just a gratuity.
Anyway, I can't wait to see what he promises his followers in the next few weeks. It's gonna be. I mean, it's only going to get. It's only going to get crazier. Right? Like, I'm just. I'm viewing all of this at this point. I'm done investing my heart in a, once great democracy. I'm here as a fan of comedy, and I expect to be entertained for the next few months by corrosive Caligula, because, I mean, he's only going to lose more and more support. And we're already seeing congressmen on the Republican side start to run against him because they care about their jobs more than they care about him. And that's going to be a theme.
Oh, yeah. Well, we always talked about the great reckoning. Right? People who have to get reelected versus the guy who doesn't have to get reelected.
Yeah.
and that's where we are. But you know, I thought it was interesting today and I was really looking forward to getting your opinion on this UN mission finding reasonable cause to believe that the US committed war crimes twice, in Iran, including the bombing of the school children. And, I mean, it's sort of, it's nice to see someone besides us come to that conclusion.
Yeah.
But I think it's mostly symbolic. I'm not sure that there's any consequences that would be attached to it.
Well, the only look, I mean, we've discussed this before. Donald Trump only hires these henchmen, flunkies and fall guys so he can fire them when his own awful policies make him look bad. That, that is why Kristi Noem is gone, that is why Pam Bondi is gone. And that is why Pete Hegseth will eventually be gone. I think it was last week we were discussing. The only suspense here is whether they'll fire Pete Hegseth right after the midterms to blame him for Iran or if they'll fire him just before the midterms to make it look like we're turning the corner on Iran. But there's stuff in my fridge that's going to last longer than Pete Hexess employment. That's the point here.
And, Congress ran away as fast as they could to have to vote on an impeachment. Ah.
I mean, then there's Mike Johnson. When it comes to being spy more Mike Johnson stands tall. But it's not going to go away. This is what we want Democrats to do and go after Hegseth by all means. I mean, we've known its war crimes since day one of the war with this double tap strike on a girls school. It guaranteed on the first day that after 40 plus years of this oppressive conservative religious rule of these mullahs in Iran, it guaranteed that Americans would never be greeted as liberators. And in killing all those schoolgirls the first day, it solidified the power of the ayatollahs. This conservative fundamentalist religious government of Iran that's been on the ropes for 20 years. There's so many student uprisings and women uprisings and now they're going to be more entrenched for decades because Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth gave them credibility and gave the rest of us what we've come to expect this century. Republicans start wars for Democrats to, to finish. And you know, it's terrible because right now we've heard that Hegseth and Rubio are already saying, this is going to last until 2029. The next president's going to have to deal with this. And Trump is coming out and saying it's already won. So it's Schrodinger's war. Right. We've already won it and it's going to last three more years. And I want to make jokes that they don't have an exit strategy, but Dr. Gill, these guys never had an entrance strategy for this war. Like the entire administration.
When Democrats withdraw and there's some sort of power vacuum, then we'll be blamed for whatever happens after that.
Oh, yeah, and they're all. I mean, like, they're all walking around using the phrase we'll see. So that's how I know things are going great. But hearing that the UN is finally taking action on this, great. I'm waiting for the rest of the world to come along and do it. Somewhere Marco Rubio is in a basement sewing a giant Mission Accomplished banner for this. But, I mean, they are war crimes. These are dead children. The whole war is illegal. tearing up the Obama era agreement was an act of war. I mean, our own military swore up and down that they were observing the agreement. So it's too early to call it, but I think Iran has already won the midterms because the diesel prices hitting six bucks a gallon. Can I just talk about that for a second?
Yeah, please.
Because, I mean, I don't know that, you know, we, as those of us who don't use diesel, are still impacted at the pump with non diesel gasoline. But I don't know that.
No, no, no. Yeah, it's worse than that. Yeah, I mean, we all use diesel. I drove a diesel car for a couple of years. I had a Plymouth Zephyr that ran on diesel and it was a pain. But, diesel is now so expensive. My Amazon delivery guy has just called me and said, I'm leaving your package in Ohio, come pick it up. All right, now here's the thing. every truck, every delivery, every grocery run just got more expensive for everybody. The new shipping fee in America is everything for everybody. A billionaire can easily absorb $6 a gallon diesel. It doesn't affect them. The guy driving the delivery truck can't absorb it. And then we all pay that delivery bill. So think about the food we eat, right? The farmer who grows it, the trucker who ships it, the delivery guy who brings your chalupa to your house. By the time your chalupa gets to the house, you've already paid for diesel gas. Three times for the farmer, for the truck and for the delivery guy. So you don't have to drive a truck truck to pay six bucks in diesel. The truck is coming to you friends, in the form of your groceries. You're not. It doesn't stay at the pump. It's everything in the grocery aisle is now diesel. And Donald Trump ran promising that he would cut fuel prices in half. Remember that? He said, he didn't say, I'll try. He promised 50%. 5, 0. He spelled it out so Pete Exit could understand. And now I guess he just said he's going to cut your wallet in half at this point because, this is not going away, Dr. Gill. And everything is going to be a lot more expensive by Halloween.
yeah, and like you said, by Halloween, before the midterm m elections, there are experts, you know, saying that in the next, in the coming days. Oh yeah, we're going to see huge, spikes in prices of, of everything. We just had his hand picked. Fed chair Wash raise interest rates.
And he went along with it too. Apparently Trump has finally been taught that a board votes on this. It's not just the chair doing it on his own. And so he found out, okay, getting rid of Powell and putting in my own shell, it's not good enough. It's a board. But today he's bragging that he told them to do that, which is terrifying or pathetic, depending on where you're at.
Yeah.
But also when Trump was asked about it and said, well, he's got a hostile board. When Wash announced the interest rates, he didn't say against what I wanted to do. They voted no. They all voted unanimously.
Right, right again. But again, he wants 1% rates or lower because he thinks it's like a hotel thermostat. You know, the president walks in and says, I want this colder. And then someone just cranks it down. Like he, he was bragging that he spoke to Warsh beforehand.
Well, it's more expensive now for him to spend other people's money, of course.
Yeah, but he doesn't care because he's still getting paid no matter what and making billions. But Trump said he told Warsh to vote for the board because these were his words. He said, said it's not going to matter. Okay, so that's the President telling his hand picked, not independent Fed chair, go ahead and vote whoever you want because the outcome is already baked in. And Warsh, to his credit, says, no, inflation's too high. Like the Fed's 2% target is still the target. So, like, we've somehow turned interest rate policy into this family fight where demented grandpa's yelling lower the rates. And everybody else is, like, touching the thermostat, pretending to do it for him so he'll calm down.
Well, it's.
I mean.
I mean, it's going to get worse. It's going to get worse. There's no way around it. There's just no way around it.
Yeah, it's going to get more and more expensive. And these billionaires, let me tell you, Democrats, it's years to blow. I mean, yeah, but they're going to reduce the deficit by giving away a trillion dollars in 5,000 increments.
So everything looks good, right?
Oh, yeah, looks good.
Don't forget that 0.35, $3.35 trillion is still quite a bit of money.
I mean, your grandkids are going to be born holding W9 forms in their hands at this point, is what we're saying, folks.
You're going to just birth W9 forms, I think, is what's going to happen from here on out. something else I wanted to ask you about this new ethical rule that Department of Health and Human Services is considering to roll back some of the restrictions on informed consent for human research subjects. This, frankly, scares the hell out of me now. You know, I had to do my dissertation. I had an IRB. IRBs can be a pain in the ass. You know, I wanted to survey veterans for my dissertation, for my doctoral dissertation, but it took about a year to pull the list of potential subjects because as veterans, they are considered vulnerable people. Vulnerable to coercion. Vulnerable.
That's right.
And, you know, they might be disabled. And also some of them might have actually worked for me because I was over about 400 people at the Department of Veterans affairs, and 30% of our workforce are veterans. And so we had to spend quite a bit of time. And there's a reason for that. It's called the common rule. It is written in the blood of the Tuskegee experiment. folks, it's written in the blood of the people who were experimented on in Nazi Germany. We have it for a reason. It's in place for a reason. And now they want to roll back what it means to have undue influence on a subject. And that frightens me.
Oh, it's horrifying. Essentially, the common rule is like, hey, let's not all be Dr. Joseph Mengele and become Nazi monsters. I mean, it's. We have a federal policy to protect human research participants. It seems like baseline Decency, Right? We've seen enough Marvel origin stories to know you don't want to have unbalanced, experiments on too many humans. But you nailed it with the word vulnerable. Because vulnerable populations, like kids or convicts or prisoners, disabled vets, poor people, they can't always give informed consent, can they? I mean, a prisoner might agree to, you know, a very dangerous medical trial just to get better food, get a better, Better sell, get a meeting with the parole board. And if you're poor, and I mean, you're. It's either going on Craigslist to sell bone marrow for food money, or I can do a risky procedure and get health care at a payout. I mean, you know, if you. If you relax, the definition of undue influence, all that shit becomes legal. And. And it turns poverty and being imprisoned into a really ugly tool to force compliance and force people to volunteer. And so, yeah, it's totally the Tuskegee syphilis study again. They targeted poor black sharecroppers, offered them free meals, free rides to the clinic, and burial insurance. We'll pay for your funeral. That's how they sold it to the Tuskegee Airmen in exchange for these tiny benefits. These guys were never told they had syphilis. And they were deliberately denied penicillin, which was known to cure it, so the scientists could watch them suffer and die. That's why we have the common rule. That is what RFK Jr and his brain worm are trying to take away quicker than you can cut off a dead raccoon's penis.
Yeah, and the fact that they want to change the definition of undue influence is interesting because there's two types, right? There's coercion, which is a threat. Like, take this shot of this medicine, or I will put you in solitary confinement, or I will hurt you, or whatever. Undue influence is the wink and the nod, like you said, offering free burial, not a threat, but a reward. Or to just go along with what you say because you're the prison guard there at the ICE detention facility or whatever. Whatever example we're using here. There's a power dynamic. There's a power imbalance.
Exactly, Exactly. You're dangling potentially life saving medication or potentially life saving treatments in front of desperate people, not being obliged to give them all the information, and then they are forced to take on desperate risks that wealthy people would be able to immediately reject. Privileged people don't have to be in this position. And let's not even forget this is AI related too, because it's all about data and these researchers, these drug developers, they have all this financial pressure to recruit subjects faster and get data faster. So, I mean, it is a two tiered system of human values. You right, the privileged and the vulnerable. And this goes to the Nuremberg Code after we found out what Mengele and the doctors, the Nazis were doing, experiments on camp people. The Belmont report in the 70s, after we learned about Tuskegee. And I think the common rule is like 35 years old. And I mean, you're trying to relax this. There's only one reason. Someone wants to get richer by weakening regulations. And that always means in every level of our government that vulnerable people be the first ones hurt.
Well, and that's the language they use because it impedes, they say, I'm reading it here. It impedes progress in medical breakthroughs.
Yeah, again, AI, we need data. We got to run all these models. We have to find out what works and what doesn't. So they're going to become a lot less discriminating to put a lot of people into testing positions and let the super robot figure out what works and what doesn't.
I mean, and we don't know what level this is yet. We haven't actually seen the proposed rule or the proposed change in definition of undue.
Well, we're seeing it. We're seeing the undoing, the definition of
do no harm, of undue influence. We haven't seen it yet. They're just saying we're working on a rule to change that and make it, you know, lift the impediments on investigators was another term that they.
The impediments on investigators. You hear what I'm saying? Like the financial pressure to get more data. The Belmont report after the Tuskegee experiment in the 70s, it had these, it had three core principles. Respect for persons, autonomy. We know they don't care about that. Justice, a fair distribution of the risks of this research. It doesn't seem like they care about that. And then, you know, beneficence. First, do no harm by definition. Looking to undo the common rule shows they're very willing to do a little bit of harm in the name of research, and they want to get messy about it.
Yeah, I agree, my friend. Thank you so much for taking the time.
Oh, hey, good times.
Fun to talk about this, to speak with us today. And, I look forward to seeing you next week, talk about your upcoming event.

And the actual people who follow the teachings of Jesus who have resisted Christian nationalists ever since Rome took over the startup.
That's amazing. Thank you so much, Fake Christians. I'm going to go get my copy. it's pre order.

Baby. Thank you, Jill M. Definitely.
All right. This is from Di. Pronounced she and her. Pronounced as in lady Di. Good, but I'm no lady. Hello, Bean screens. I just want to thank you for keeping us sane during the collective national nightmare. Your contents deliver with a level of honesty and empathy that is both rare and welcome. I am super excited that we're finally able to catch Dana live in Albuquerque on October 9th.
Yay.
We live in Durango, Colorado. And it can be tough to get to shows. My husband and I are straight allies of the LGBTQ community and looking forward to the fundraiser. Oh, my God, I'm so excited, Di. Of course, it wasn't until we tried booking a hotel and saw the sky high prices that we realized it was the balloon fiesta weekend. All good. And we should catch an early morning ascension before heading back for my pod pet tariff. I've attached a photo of the hubby with our blank bow. There's just no doubt what he is on the final section of a fourteener. yep, a 14er. Before heading to the summit, giving myself a shout out as I did this at age 63. Beau looks so cute, but in complete grub bug, who will roll in anything he can find. But he's the cheekiest and most loving little guy that I love more than I can express Here also attached a pic of the pika. the pica pika we saw.
Always forget it's one or the other.
Me too. I'm gonna go with Pica. Today we saw, so well camouflaged among the rocks, working our butts off, volunteering for all things voting in our vibrant little town. As this year is too important to sit out, our grandchildren deserve so much better. Please keep doing what you're doing. Become an ongoing subscriber, some time ago and can highly recommend it to anyone sitting on the fence. We will come through. This is stronger nation. Di, what a great submission. Pica is located. We got the picture. Oh, wow. Yeah, that is really just. Oh, hey, the rocks there. Yeah.
Yeah.
Nice camouflage. And I think Bo looks like a tiny little poodle.
That's a teeny poodle.
That's such a tiny poodle.
Let's see here. Miniature poodle.
There you go, Di. Thank you so much. I don't know what hotel you booked, but if anyone else is trying to get to Albuquerque, I know there's still some rooms at the Clyde, which is literally around the corner from the venue, which is gonna be the Chemo Theater. So if you're heading to Albuquerque, I believe there's still some rooms left at the Clyde. It is more expensive than normal because of the balloon fiesta. And, of course, I wanna apologize for that, even though I can't control it. But I'm just really excited that you're going to the show, so I hope you have a fantastic time.
Yeah, I'll be there. I'll be there. I'll say hi.
Yes, you will.
I'm looking forward to it. I'm very much looking Forward to it. And I've never seen the balloon fiesta, like, in person. I've only seen, like, pictures of these
oh, my God, you're gonna love it.
Coverage. So I'm really excited about that, too. Some hot air balloons in Arizona, but nothing, nothing, nothing like New Mexico.
The mass ascension in the morning when the sun comes up is extraordinary.

Yes. It's fantastic. All right, next up, from Rebecca Peacock, pronoun. She and her. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Hello again, again, Beans Queens. We saw her hair the other day. Here's a warning, from the indivisible chapter Rossdale Huddle in Austin, Texas. Heads up. Elon's fake check your voter status site. Votesafe.org collects your name, your address, your date of birth. It archives it all while also capturing your IP address, which tracks your online activity. Please warn friends and family of this fake site and remind them that.gov sites are the ones to trust for voter list hookup or our good friends@vote.org of course. So vote safe. Anything with safe in it. Save safe, stay away. Seriously, for Pod tax. You liked my hair before, so here's another one in full Rainbow for our 40th anniversary celebration on the Star Trek cruise. Okay, now I'm jealous. And yes, it's definitely bleached. First, shout out to my incredible hairdresser, Bobby Clayman of BK Hair Artistry, now in Las Vegas. The second is me, after losing a hundred pounds on a plant based diet thanks to the documentary Forks Over Knives.
This is so cool, Rebecca.
Okay, first of all, Forks Over Knives is a great name for a plant based documentary.
Oh, have you not seen it?
No.
Oh, my God. You should take the time. It is actually pretty extraordinary.
I definitely will.
And we're not advocating for any specific diet, but if you watch it and you feel so inclined to try it, you know, obviously it is worked for Rebecca, but, Allison, you should watch it. It's actually really good. It's a fascinating documentary.
That's incredible. I will definitely check it out. Thank you so much for that. And congratulations, by the way. And the super bright rainbow hair is gorgeous. Gorgeous.
Yeah, it is gorgeous. All right, next up from anonymous pronouns, she and her. Good morning, beans Queens. Longtime listener here. Thanks for all you do. You say you need things to make you smile. Here are a few photos of my humorous son, Ben, who is going to be 25 on the 20. He is and always has been a real character. Yes, this is him standing in the toilet after throwing grandma's keys in the toilet. And then Ben talking to a giraffe at the zoo.
Okay, so this mom definitely shows this photo to all Ben's girlfriends.
I haven't seen it. I sure hope so.
He's in the toilet.
So good. What a cutie.
Oh, incredible. Hi, Ben.
Hi, Ben.
Thanks for this. Next up, Meriden. I hope I'm pronounced. Yeah, Meriden pronouns he and him. Good day to you both. Legumas ladies. I've made your show a staple of my morning commute to work. Thank you so much. When I heard you talking about taint disease this morning, I just had to jump in and clarify. Add on. Because I'm a pharmacist. Ooh, cool. This is my wheelhouse. And I love to educate people about the meds they are or might be taking. The drugs in question are SGLT2 inhibitors, used for diabetes and heart failure. The condition for which these drugs increase risk, which keep in mind, happens very, very rarely even with the increase, is called Fournier's gangrene. Do not Google this term. The drugs work by helping your kidneys dump glucose from your blood into your urine. But this creates a lovely environment for bacteria to grow. Aha. Now it's starting to all make sense. If an infection gets out of hand, which unfortunately happens more to people with diabetes, it lead to the tissue in the area of the bladder and urethra dying. These medications are totally worth that small, small, very small increased risk most of the time. But if you start on one, that's definitely a conversation to have between you and your doctor and your pharmacist. Never stop talking about taints and never stop talking about taint rot. It's the best part of my Wednesday oh, my God.
for my tariff payment, here.
Here's Meowy a doc Brandy Buck the Peregrine took, AKA Marian Pippin. Very nice. My two new feral kitten rescues who have come out of their hiding spots and started to spread their love around the house. It's been a joy watching them discover that not everything is scary or dangerous. And they have even taken to sleeping in bed with my kids. Let's be like them and stay brave and curious. Play hard and love harder.
Look at this baby. Look how sweet.
Meriden, thanks for the info on taint rot. And thanks. Thanks for the vote of encouragement to not stop talking about it on Wednesdays.
All right, this next one's from Alison. Not my Allison, not your Allison, but Allison. Allison. Pronouns she and her. Hi, Alison and Dana. Love your show and look forward to listening to you every day. I was born in Wales and live in Canada. Your neighbors up here are following the news very closely in the lead up to the midterms. Your podcasts and Blue sky posts are the best. I'm trying not to get my hopes up after feeling devastated after the last election when I relied on the polls to feel good before the election. I'm afraid election day will be a shit show, and I really hope voters turn out in droves to elect a functioning Congress that can control the maniac in the White House. Well said. I'm attaching a photo I took this past spring. We don't often see fawns on the cliff. They tend to stay in the woods behind us. Also, a photo of my calico cat, Annie, sitting on our garden wall. We have four cats, two ginger and a charcoal tabby. Plus Annie. All rescues, all full of life and sweetness. Oh, my goodness, always. Thanks again and. And hope, you know, that Canada is cheering for the good guys so we can be friends and neighbors again. This is a stunning, picture of the spawn. They're both snow next to this lake. I know. And Miss Kitty.
So jealous of my Canadian friends right now. Seriously, I'm just down here trying to get health care. Just trying to get this asshole out of the White House. Just try to flip Congress. They're up there with beautiful fawns and the delicious cats and gorgeous flowers and free healthcare. Thank you so much for your support, though. I. I really appreciate all of our emotional support. Canadians, very, very important to us. Next up, Beth Pronoun. She and her hi AG and dg. Knowing that you your love for Monty Python, I would like to give a shout out to brave Mike Johnson, because when Legislation reared its ugly head. Let me sing this. When legislation reared its ugly head, he bravely closed the house and fled.
Brave, brave, brave, brave.
Mike Johnson. Yes. Well, that's all. I got a giggle from this and I thought you guys would too. For my pod pick. this is some basil that has sprung up in my garden. I think we say it basil here. After I accidentally let last year's crop go to seed, I might just leave it and let it take over the neighborhood.
Fuck, yeah.
Nice. Thanks, Beth.
Nice. All right. From Victoria. Pronouns. She and her. Hello, queens of the beans. I really appreciate the work you both do, keeping us informed while also trying to keep us sane. I wanted to share recent achievements, achievement. I passed the Arizona bar exam. I know everyone who sits for it really works very hard to pass. But unlike a lot of examiners, I had to work full time while studying. So I studied for a little over five months. It was by far the hardest thing I've done. And I'm so proud of myself for passing on the first try. Woot woot. I plan on becoming a public defender after getting sworn in. And I simply cannot wait for my podfet tax. Please enjoy my chonky baby boy. Thanks for all that you do. And this is a chonker of a cat. But also, Victoria, congratulations. Very proud of you.
First time and you're going to be a public defender. That's badass. That is so badass. Look at that chunky baby. He's absolute unit looking at you. Oh, my God. He's adorable, everyone. Thank you so much. We definitely needed that good news this week. There was a little good news. They arrested Christian Castro. That was good news. Unfortunately. What's going on in Turkey right now? Dean, and I going to cover it, a little bit over on Beans Talk. If you would join us there. And again, I would encourage our patrons to check your email to see if you got any links to our election night watch party. because the tickets are going fast per us. Right? but we want you to come. We want you to be there and witness the shenanigans and the good things and the bad. Like it's. Who knows what's going to even happen that day. And that's why I want us all to be together on it.
Yeah. Yep. Good call. Good call.
Any final thoughts, my friend, before we get out of here for the weekend?
Nah, I think we're good. Everyone just have a great weekend.
Awesome. I'm going to be interviewing Katie Fang for the breakdown on Midas Touch on Sunday. She got two really good rulings in her Epstein files case against Todd Blanch. And, the. The judge is threatening contempt. So, we're going to talk to her. And then also there's Unjustified with me and Andy McCabe. We're going to listen to some of the clips of Kash Patel trying to defend letting people who've committed best into the bureau.
Oh, my God, so good.
The memes. I cannot get enough of the memes.
I mean, we don't even need the memes. Kennedy's interaction with him was golden.
Oh, I know.
And I despise Kennedy, and it was just golden.
Yeah. But I mean, some of these that I'm getting, like, inside of you are two wolves. This will no longer disqualify you from being an FBI agent. Kash Patel is probably in some bar right now pounding Wild Turkey. He might also have a drink.
Oh, my God.
Hilarious.
Okay, these are very funny.
and these are sent to me by former people at the FBI who are higher ups. And I'll let you guess who they are. Everyone, thank you so much. we'll see you over on Beans Talk, and we'll see you here on Monday. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health, and take care of your family. I've been ag.
