msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, October 2, 2026. Today, new details are emerging about the Cornell 7 title. Nine unelected Republicans in Georgia are asking Todd Blanche to declare their voting machines illegal. Renee Goode's family has filed two lawsuits against the Trump administration for wrongful death and excessive force. The Supreme Court has said it will take up the Trump administration's immigration bond hearing case. Eric Schmidt was warned about the bogus Atlanta Hawks text messages before embarrassing himself on national television. The White House once again removed CNN from pool coverage while selling ad space for. For Trump's taxpayer funded ads on the network. And the GOP hold on. The Florida and Texas governors races is weakening. I'm Alison Gill.

And I'm Dana Goldberg.

Boy, just a hodgepodge of good and bad and good and bad. Like it's.

I mean, I feel like that's the story of our lives these days.

It really is. And I have to say, putting together these shows is kind of like putting together a mixtape. You're like, what's a good opening song and how do we end it? Strong but not sad. Like it's. I think it's an.

It is definitely an art.

anyway, we're gonna have John Fugal sang on today because it's Fugal sang Friday, so we get to talk to him.

He's one of our favorite songs on the mixtape.

Yes. Such a good one. And something else I just am still trying to wrap my head around. We were nominated for a Signal award.

It's awesome. It's awesome.

We're up against Jon Stewart. He doesn't need it. He doesn't need it. He's got Emmys.

Jon's fine. He's got Emmys. Come on, everybody.

He's doing great. So if you want to vote for us, you can do that by clicking on that big old long link in the show. Not.

That'd be awesome. of course. And tell your friends. Why not just be like, hey, do us a solid. Check this out, Angie. Unelected Republicans on the Georgia State Election Board are asking Todd Blanche to shut down the state's voting machines. Just unelected fuckers on the Georgia State Elections Board are asking Todd Blanche to shut down states voting machines. So we're going to go over all of that on today's episode of the Beans Talks. When you're done listening to audio here, go check out the video on YouTube.

Yeah, for sure. Oh, and by the way, a judge has dismissed the charges. Well, he'd already dismissed the charges against Olympian Davey Hearn, you know, reflecting pool guy. But this time, he's made the decision to do it with prejudice so that the Justice Department can't bring any more reflecting pool charges against him at a later date.

Yeah, whatever happened, remember, they were like, oh, they're convening a special grand jury or something, and then nothing ever happened. So, like, who was that about?

And then Jeanine Pirro was like, no, we're not. There's. He's not. We can't charge him, but we want to in the future, so please do it without prejudice. And the judge was like, but you just said that the evidence exculpates him. It shows he's innocent. And she's like, well, I want to be able to. It might change. But the judge is like, no, it won't. You clearly have it out for this guy. So I'm going to do it with prejudice. And Andy and I are going to talk about that on this weekend's Unjustified podcast, so.

All right.

All right, everybody. We have a bunch of news to get to, as you might have noticed. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot, notes. First up from NBC, the partner of Renee Goode, a Minneapolis woman who was fatally shot by an immigration officer in January. And as we remember in the video, that officer then said, fucking bitch right after. Do you remember?

Oh, I very much remember.

Well, her partner spoke publicly about her death for the first time Thursday as the family announced that they have filed two federal civil lawsuits. Renee Goode's partner said she was pure love, and she was funny and she was smart and she was gorgeous. That's Becca Good at a press conference. And she became emotional, as I am right now, as she discussed attending back to school night and preparing to celebrate Halloween with their children alone. She went on to say, every single one of these moments for all of her babies and for everyone up here was a monumental moment, and she should be here for all of them. We were all robbed. Now, earlier in the press conference, attorneys for Renee Goode's family announced lawsuits alleging wrongful death and excessive force in her January 7th murder. One lawsuit seeks to hold the United States liable under the Federal Tort Claims act for the actions of the federal agents. It alleges wrongful death, battery, assault, false imprisonment, emotional distress, and negligence. The second suit names Jonathan Ross, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who shot Renee, as well as several federal officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Quote, every morning, she's my first thought I think about how the kids are growing up without their mama and how I'll grow old without the love of my life. That's what Becca said. Renee Goode's brother, Brent Ganger, said her death was completely senseless and said, we filed these two lawsuits today to put officials on notice that we have not forgotten. Now, attorney Antonio Romanucci, who is representing Good's family, said he hopes the lawsuits, quote, are the beginning of the ultimately legal weapon in uncovering the truth behind this unlawful use of deadly force and the nefarious conspiracies behind the invasion of American cities by American law enforcement officers.

I am glad to see it. This is taking, I think, a tremendous amount of strength and courage, especially for her wife to, you know, her widow to speak out. So. Okay, this one is from the Associated Press. The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to review a Trump administration policy denying bond hearings for immigrants as the government carries out sweeping crackdown. The justices are going to consider whether immigrants who have been living in the US Have a right to a hearing to determine if they should remain detained while challenging their possible deportation. The case is going to test a key pillar of the Trump administration's hardline immigration agenda. Most appeals courts that have considered the issue have found that it violates federal law to detain immigrants, including those living in the US Illegally, without a bond hearing. Those decisions that conflict with rulings by the Fifth and Eighth Circuits, which held that immigrants accused of illegally entering and remaining in the US Must be detained while their deportation cases are pending. The high court agreed to hear the case of Ricardo Aparacido Barbosa de Sunja. He's a citizen of Brazil, and I apologize for the pronunciation, citizen of Brazil. Authorities say he entered the United States illegally two decades ago and applied for asylum in 2016. He sought a bond hearing after an immigration judge determined that his detention was mandatory following his September 2025 arrest. He's never been charged or convicted of a crime. This is what his attorney said. The court's expected to hear the case in the coming months. Well, Donald's administration had urged the high court to take up a different but related case that involves the broader constitutional implications of the new policy. The plaintiffs are immigrants represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, which says hundreds of district court judges have joined most circuits in rejecting the Trump administration's new reading of the statutes. Plaintiffs lawyers say the administration is trying to deny bond hearings for immigrants apprehended anywhere in the US no matter how long they've lived in the country, rather than limiting the restriction to non citizens stopped at the border. Well, the Trump administration says its new mandatory detention policy is legal under a 1996 immigration law. The policy change departs from the practices of prior administrations, which typically allowed most non citizens without criminal records to request a bond hearing if they were arrested away from the border. The specific case before the Supreme Court, it comes from the New York based 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, which was the first appeals court to rule against the administration on this issue. The case hinges on ICE's interpretation of the 1996 immigration law, not broader constitutional questions of the Justice Department. Had encouraged the justices to also consider,

you know, a 1996 law that's been followed the same way since 1996 until now. I think it's interesting that the Supreme Court is taking this up on that law grounds and not constitutional grounds. I think that's actually better for decent people on Earth one, because I don't like the way that this US Supreme Court interprets the Constitution.

Agreed.

And so they're just going to be interpreting this law to see whether it is being followed. you see what I'm getting at.

So I do, I do.

I don't know, we'll see what ends up happening. But, we knew that they would be taking it up because there are some circuits that are disagreeing with other circuits and that usually triggers a Supreme Court review. All right, next up, content warning for sexual assault. And if you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, you can call the RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline 24 hours a day at 800-656-HOPE or you can text the word HOPE to 64673, the New York Times. Dana has obtained more than 1,000 pages from the University of Cornell's internal inquiry into accusations by Jane Doe. And here's an overview of the revelations. The files compiled for Cornell's Title 9 administrative hearing process and distributed in early 2025 include an extensive transcript of the original police interviews with the 20 year old sophomore who accused the men of sexually assaulting her at the Chi phi fraternity on October 19, 2024. They also include the original six page statement that Cornell Police Department submitted to Tompkins County, New York. A district attorney there, investigatory interviews with six of the seven men whom the woman accused of being involved in the assault, and interviews with 20 additional witnesses. There's a trove of emails and text messages. Screenshots of the message boards are included, some showing how rumors about what had happened that night raced around campus. And here are some of the main early takeaways. The summary of Jane Doe's statement sent to the district attorney left out key context. On November 14, about three weeks after the incident, the woman who filed the suit, known as Jane Doe, spoke for hours to a Cornell police investigator and an investigator from Cornell's Title IX office, which makes sure the university complies with federal regulations related to sex discrimination. She had with her a support person is what it's called, someone who provides emotional support during these hearings and an advisor to explain her rights. The transcript of that conversation was 120 pages, Dana. And they condensed it to a six page official statement.

Oh, my gosh.

That the woman signed this statement was crucial because the Tompkins County DA says it's the main piece of evidence he considered when he decided not to bring a criminal case. But the official statement omits, much of the context about Jane Doe's state of mind, her history as a sexual assault survivor and her thoughts as she was processing what happened to her. And in these details, in addition to the actions she alleges that help explain how a series of sexual encounters that started off as, quote, pretty okay developed into a situation that was, quote, just raping. In her words, she said, I can say this with 100% confidence. I was raped. She told the police investigator that's what she said about the end of the night in a statement that did not make it into the six page summary. So when the DA says she didn't say she was raped, it's because.

Right.

They kept.

They never got that information. Yeah.

The omissions may help explain why the DA didn't think he could bring a criminal case. The summary made clear, however, she felt that some of what was happening to her was a crime. And she explains that one reason she took the drug ketamine was to escape it. Jane Doe considered two of the men friends. She and the men involved that night had taken ketamine, and things had started off consensual, though she was drunk and I'm just gonna stop. New York Times right there. A drunk person cannot consent. Yeah, but apparently under New York state law, if you choose to get drunk, I guess all bets are off.

Fucked up New York state law around

this, and some of her memories were hazy. According to the transcript, she had lost control. Her initial impulse was to keep quiet about what happened, and that is common. But, within a day or two, everyone involved in sorority and fraternity life knew what had happened. She told investigators most of the gossip blamed her, calling her a. That had an 8, some with the Cai Phi guys. That's A quote. She had not known why or how many men had shown up in the room that night. But then she heard that a Snapchat message had been sent to the entire fraternity, inviting members to join in. What was happening? And when she saw on a message board that someone had said the Cai Phi members were gang banging, the pieces started coming together for her. She told investigators that she had a revelation when reading an online comment that called the Chi Phi brothers terrible people. They gang raped a sophomore quote. And that's kind of when I came to the realization that I had been gang raped, gang assaulted, whatever you want to call it, that's what happened. She said she documented her injuries and evidence that didn't really make it into the six page report either. The woman's main source of pain after the incident is from what she thought was a urinary tract infection. In her account to investigators, she said that when she went to Cornell Health Clinic two days after the incident to get medication, she told the doctor that she had contracted the infection in a traumatic way and they didn't do anything other than advise her to seek therapy. Before Jane Doe decided she would go to the campus police department, she gathered additional documentation. She took a photograph of a hickey on her neck more than a week after the incident. She took a picture of fading bruises on her buttocks that she alleged were caused by one of the men hitting her. She didn't wash the dress that she was wearing that night to save potential evidence. And two weeks after the incident and the day before she went to police, she went to an emergency room for a rape kit. Now, there's a much longer and more detailed accounting of the documents and text messages and the screenshots. and I've posted that gift link to the New York Times article that has more of the information in it on my Blue sky feed at Melosherote.

All right, thanks so much, Allison. you know, we're going to keep covering this case as it unfolds with you all. So for a second time in a week, the White House has unilaterally removed CNN from its assignment as the primary television pool representative covering Donald Trump. CNN was excluded on Saturday from pool duty on board Air Force One, despite a district judge's ruling two days earlier overturning the White House's ban on the network and two other media organizations. But on Sunday, in what appeared to be a thawing of tensions, the White House published a pool assignment list that listed CNN as in town pooler for Thursday's activities with the conservative network Real America's Voice serving as a secondary pooler. Then on Wednesday night, the White House abruptly removes CNN from pool duty for the following day, leaving just Real America's Voice as the only pooler on The President travels to Texas and Oklahoma, the country's largest broadcast and cable television news networks. They have not aired Real America's Voice footage, though the network has widely broadcast its availability. They're like, hey, this footage is available if you need it. And everyone's like, you can go fuck yourself. As they did on Saturday. None of the other four networks will take CNN's place on Thursday, meaning there will be no primary pool footage, though networks could cover individual parts of his trip. CNN did not comment on the network's exclusion on Thursday. The judge in the case is soon gonna hold a hearing to weigh arguments from both sides about whether the network should be granted a preliminary injunction that would block the ban until the network's 21st of September lawsuit against the White House plays out. Now check this out. This is from the Washington Post. The Trump administration bought advertising space on both CNN and Ms. Now running taxpayer funded ads promoting Donald Trump even as the President barred both cable networks from the White House grounds and bans that have been paused as we know by a federal judge. The White House in recent days began running three advertisements that it calls and I quote, public service announcements which Democrats and former ethics officials have claimed could violate ethics laws because of their political nature. They do violate those laws. The Trump administration has spent at least $2.87 million running the three ads according to modeled estimate from Ad Impact. And this is a quote, dollars, although by the way they were allocated for the border. They're stealing money from ICE Customs Enforcement. And this is a quote, we know the size, engagement and influence of msnow audience and apparently the White House does too. The decision to spend taxpayer dollars to reach our audience speaks for itself. Ms. NOW spokesman Richard Hudduck wrote in a statement and went on to say, like all paid advertising on Ms. Now, the spot was subject to an established review process by the sales team. Accepting an advertisement is not an endorsement of its message and purchasing airtime will never purchase favorable coverage. our journalists have already reported on the serious questions surrounding these advertisements and we will continue doing exactly that. CNN declined to comment. And I just, the whole statement from Ms. Now I'm like, I don't know why I'm have I can't imagine I'm the only one having an adverse reaction to this. But I'm like fuck off. You could have Said, no, this isn't an endorsement. It's just about money. You know, the controversy behind these ads, and you took the blood money anyway. Yeah.

And let me tell you, everyone, listeners, gentle listeners, we will never. We will never accept Donald Trump's ads here on this podcast. Do you remember we were offered $50,000 from Mike Bloomberg to put political campaign ads up for him when he was running, in 2020, and we. And we turned it down. $50,000 is a huge, huge amount of money for, like, a tiny network. But I'm like, no, dude, come back when we've got a nominee.

Yeah, good for you.

And he was like. Because he was saying, oh, I'll totally back whoever the nominee is and dump a bunch of advertising dollars into it. Yeah. Guess what happened?

Didn't do it.

No. Didn't do it. But anyway. What? Yeah, I was. I'm. I am right on board with you, sister on that. I was like, what? Wtf? Come on. But our next story is from Ms. Now, as. As they prepared for the testimony of former special counsel Jack Smith, Republican staff on the Senate Judiciary Committee gave Senator Eric Schmidt a warning. The texts that you obtained from the Justice Department, which Schmidt suggests was proof Smith had colluded with a, Georgia state prosecutor, had been unvetted. And that's according to a source with direct knowledge of the conversation. But Schmidt used the texts anyway, and what followed was a congressional spectacle that unraveled almost as quickly as it begun. Schmidt insisted Smith attended an Atlanta Hawks basketball game in February 2024, suggesting he may have conspired in some way with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. And did you notice how he kept mispronouncing her name on purpose?

Of course he did. Misogynist, racist, jerk.

And he. He did that only to watch the allegation implode within minutes as C SPAN cameras broadcast the exchange to the world. It was glorious. According to a source familiar with the committee process and two sources familiar with the matter, the DOJ shared materials with the Republican staff on, the Judiciary Committee. Ahead of Smith's hearing, Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley's team assembled a memo about key information for the hearing, according to one source. But Grassley staff did not include the text messages in the memo. So even Chuck Grassley was like, oh, boy. Grassley also did not share the texts with the Democratic senators before the hearing, according to a Democratic staffer and another source briefed by the committee staff. That omission deepened Democratic suspicion that congressional Republicans and the Trump administration were working together. To undermine or trap Smith. Duh. Schmidt's staff came to the Republican staff asking for material showing a connection between Smith's investigation, which probed efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election, and Fani Willis's probe into whether Trump sought to manipulate the Georgia election results. The source said such back and forths over potential material is common practice ahead of congressional hearings. After Schmidt's team expressed interest, they received access to the text messages. Judiciary staff, however, explicitly warned Schmidt's team that the texts were unvetted and that it was their responsibility to verify the information.

And the two staffers, you could see them in the video, looked very surprised by what was happening.

See, I still love, Katie Britt's face.

Oh, my God. I've never thought those words would come out of anyone's mouth. This one is from the Post. Democrats in Florida and Texas have surged thanks in part to President Donald Trump's poor approval ratings. Yep. This is from Cook Political Report analysts. That's what they said on Thursday, shifting their rating of those races from likely Republican to just leaning Republican and a, quote, cash flush. Republicans are still favored in both pricey states. This is what Jessica Taylor wrote, Senate and governor's editor for the nonpartisan election analysis site went on to say, but given the grim political environment for the gop, we can't rule out the possibility of an upset. In Texas, three term governor Greg Abbott is playing defense as he loses supporters to state Rep. Gina Hinojosa. Hinojosa, thank you. This is also what Taylor noted, adding that polling, and I quote, shows a tightening race, including GOP surveys that have shown the contest closing despite Abbott outspending Hinojosa by more than 6 to 1. In Florida, surveys show Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman, either leading or narrowly tr Rep. Byron Donalds for the open seat despite Donalds outspending his opponent. Property taxes, housing, immigration, they're leading issues, but so are Trump's approval ratings. Donalds has distanced himself from the president. Then we're talking about, the Republican Byron Donalds has distanced himself from the president, playing up his alignment with Governor Ron DeSantis instead. I'm not sure you want to hitch your wagon to that horse either, but we'll see. Or hit your horse to that wagon either fucking way. Way. I wouldn't hitch it to Ron DeSantis, however.

Yeah, don't hitch anything. No hitching of things. Whether you're hitching stars or wagons or horses, just don't, don't do it. With Ron DeSantis. Oh, man. All right, that's the news, everybody. We are going to come back with John Fugle saying, followed by the good news. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.

We'll be right back.

But the main title that you can search for, that's all you need, Christians. And, please welcome John Fugal saying Hello, my friend.

Dr. Gill, what an honor. This is my favorite time of the week as well. And, and my parole officer says it's been really good for me, so, I mean, I owe you a lot. Thank you.

No, you know, I send a lot of letters to him about how good you're doing, so.

Oh, that's. So thank you. I appreciate that. He's a regular listener, so it makes me look good.

Thanks.

It's all work release for me. Yeah. Yeah. Boy, what a week, huh? Did you ever think you'd see Karl Rove calling other people Naz?

Huh? No, that was new on my bingo card.

Karl Rove, I think, tried to annex the Sudetenland, and now he's calling other people Nazis. I don't know.

Also new on my bingo card, Amy Klobuchar knowing more about sports than Eric Schmidt. And Jack Smith, being a Caitlin Clark fan. I didn't. I just didn't.

You know. You know, we're. We're learning new things about future Attorney General Jack Smith all the time, aren't we? I mean. Yeah.

man, I'm so happy about. More people are starting to get on the Jack Smith for Attorney general.

Look, I would have been fine with Attorney General Adam Schiff, but we can't lose him in the Senate now, so it just de facto. I would also accept Attorney General Glenn Kirschner, to be honest, very excited if that could happen. But, yeah, I mean, this guy just made a jackass out of himself. And it was so beautifully done. It was such a metaphor for everything in this administration. They were so sure they had a gotcha for the sake of hate. And the entire thing, to me, was just a hangover from the Fauci hearing. I mean, Donald Trump lied willfully to people you love, everyone you love, during a plague. Dr. Fauci said, oh, maybe we don't need masks now because the information's changed. Let's go after him, not the guy who lied to us. And here we see Donald Trump has cops beaten on the Capitol steps for a lie so the vice president can be coerced into breaking the law and throwing out the popular vote of Arizona and Pennsylvania to appoint alternate electors as fraud, conspiracy to deny rights to the American people, and they're really mad at the law enforcement who went after the criminals. I mean, this is Trumpism. And the fact that it's stupid and poorly thought out, it just makes the metaphor all the more rich.

Yeah. And now we're hearing from Ms. Now about this Schmidt thing that he was warned Republican staff on the Senate Judiciary Committee gave Schmidt a warning. The texts they had obtained from the Justice Department, which Smit suggested were proof that Smith had colluded, you know, with Fani Willis, were unvetted. They were unvetted. I mean, you could just come out and say the Hawks aren't the Hawkeyes, but I guess that's one way to say unvetted.

I mean, it's beautiful. I've heard a lot of rumors. I heard the White House push this as well. But either way, I mean, it was so thirsty. Ted Cruz, I mean, they all look like jackasses. And honestly, I don't think the Democrats pushed back hard enough. I liked Cory Booker's comments. I respect them all. But I mean, he had cops beaten for a lie, and they're going after the cops. This is authoritarianism 101. I think we've talked about this before. You know, folks on the left like to say, how can these people talk about back the blue. How can these people talk about Blue lives matter? And then sit there and watch them beat the crap out of cops for Donald Trump? And it's like, that's what authoritarianism is. When a cop shoots an unarmed black kid, we automatically trust the authority figure, right? I mean, no doubt you always believe the cop, never the dead person. But what if that authoritarian is protecting democracy and he's in the way of a bigger authoritarian? Well, then that cop is in the way and he has to be dealt with. And it's completely morally consistent in its depravity. But my m whole thing, Dr. Gill, is all these liberals going out and saying, oh, this guy just destroyed his career. Eric Schmidt destroyed his career. He blew up his. I'm like, he's from Missouri. You think this is gonna hurt him?

Oh, it might. It might hurt his vp. You know, JD Vance was looking to. At him for maybe vp. That could hurt that. You don't want that shit following you around when you're trying to be honest.

You think the modern Republican base is offended by lies and stupidity and incompetency? And most of all, we also know people who watch Fox News probably have no idea this even happened. He hates who they hate. That's enough. That's their word.

Forget it. I'm not going to let him forget.

Never. But if they cared about truth or law in the first place, they wouldn't

be MAGA M. But Cory Booker had the. Had the anger, expressed the anger that I was feeling about the farce of the hearing in the first place. I thought Senator Whitehouse did a great Job of explaining how Bill Barr also went and got toll records from members of Congress. But that sort of, While I appreciate it, it sort of concedes the, the point a little. Like, we went after Trump's communications and toll records because he committed a crime and sick. An angry mob.

And the charges were conspiracy. Yeah. So there are others who are calling him and texting him.

Yeah, right. Sorry. You know, sorry if you got caught up talking to a criminal while he was committing a crime, but that is not my fault.

But let's be honest. They don't care. They know. Every Republican on the Judiciary Committee knows this.

This.

Every Republican on the Judiciary Committee knows the truth. Their job's not to uncover the truth. They don't.

No. I just mean Democrats could have.

Oh, Democrats, yes.

Where I would have gone with that, Like.

Yeah, absolutely.

The reason we got your toll records is because you were talking to a criminal mid crime.

And I think that, Jack Smith conveyed that pretty directly and effectively. And maybe the gray coup de grace was when he told, Lindsey Graham's incredibly qualified senator sister, boy, you love this Darlene Graham. She, she's against Dei Dr. Gill. She doesn't want those unqualified staking jobs away. But, when he said to her, your brother would have been a cooperating witness here.

Your father was a patriot and he was likely going to be a witness in our case. That was the first time we had heard about Lindsey Graham potentially being a witness in the January 6 case. So we did learn something new in this. In this hearing. Generally we tend not to learn new things. We kind of just go over the old stuff. Well, let's not find out if I learned that. I learned Caitlin Clark. I let you know he's a fan of Caitlin Clark. But we also learned where, when somebody asked him, can these charges be brought again, he just looked right at him and said into the microphone, we dismissed those cases without prejudice.

So what's your takeaway from that? Now?

What have I been telling you about when Jack Smith was like, we have yet to litigate the fact that a statute of limitations may be able to be paused during the pendency of a presidency because you cannot indict a sitting president.

And he asked for these cases to be dismissed without prejudice. For that reason, perhaps he's interested in litigating whether or not a statute of limitations can be told while someone's in office. I don't know. It's a long shot because the Supreme Court or the courts could just say, we don't Office of Legal Counsel memos that say you can't indict a sitting president. That's not law, that's an opinion, but it's based on law. And it was written twice. That Office of Legal Counsel memo. but what it says to me is that if Jack Smith were Attorney General or if he were friends with whoever became Attorney General, he might be saying, hey, you should probably try to bring these charges again. See if you control the statute of limitations because he was president for four years and you can't prosecute a sitting president. That's what it told me.

I agree. And I actually think that they will expand this to bring some kind of justice or restitution to the fired FBI agents who he so eloquently defended against Cash Patel's stupidity. And I mean, there, there you have it, right? Like, he, he just laid it all out. The fact that this was a profound cover up and it was an attack on law enforcement. This is why I think we've moved from resistance to reform. You know, like, like when people say, oh, Vindman was such a hero of Trump's first term. You know, Angie Nixon's great, but she really beat him. And I think think that's because standing up to Trump is not enough. It was great in the first term that people said, Mr. Trump, you're wrong, and I object. Now people want more. Now it's got to be, I'm going to stand up to him and I am going to devote myself to making sure this can never legislatively happen again. We are no longer resistance. We're in the era of reform. How do we make this right and how do we prevent this kind of reality TV cult of personality from being able to break this many laws? And I think that's really what's behind a lot of this. A lot of great Democrats who stood up in the first term, and it ain't enough anymore. This has to be prevented.

And we also need to do this societally. We know, what was it 14 years ago? Fifteen years ago, I was in a documentary about military sexual trauma. A couple years after that documentary came out, the Invisible War, the Hunting Ground came out by the same people who did the Invisible War that the film that I was in. And you would think after the impact of the MeToo movement, that we'd be in a better place, but I don't think we are. I actually think we're in a worse place. And I think that that really was shown to us with it happening, not with people speaking up and fighting back. I think we're speaking up and fighting

back more, but I think it's.

I don't think it's happening less. And the reason I say that is because 50 men refused to say a word and lift a finger and do anything. Only one.

That's only one.

One of them.

One guy in that whole frat. One guy. The. The. What I've heard most recently is it was only one member of the frat took screen captures of the Snapchats and sent them to the woman's lawyer. And that is why she has a case again. We wouldn't know any of the snapshots.

Oh.

But didn't stop it in real time.

Didn't stop in real time, no. But gave her the evidence that she would need. But you're right, because I guess we're still not teaching boys to do that. That actually stopping it and obstructing your friends is what a good person does. I'm torn on it, because I look at the sacrifice and service of people like you and women in the MeToo movement, and we've talked about this. Women in the Epstein files. Men and women who are survivors of military sexual abuse, and the altar boys, the men who came forward after so many centuries of shame when men couldn't

come forward, and the Eugene Carrolls of the world. Right?

And, for me, as someone who has, Who's dealt with this on several levels personally and, with people I love in my family, I draw inspiration from these people's bravery because I like to say it's never been harder for a man to get away with interfering with a woman or a child than it is right now. Because. Because of all the people who've come forward, the Epstein files never could have been released in the 1990s. The Epstein files? Never. This whole movement, a popular movement to force a president to release these files, this never could have happened in the 2000s. This is only happening now.

What's going on with the Cornell police who aren't handing over evidence to the da? And didn't they not. And what. What's with these, you know, having them write essays and maybe spelling only two of them?

and again, this is the kind

of thing that's just so disheartening to me.

They write free pussy, and five of them have to write essays. If they'd said Free Palestine, they would have been asked to leave the school. Right? I mean, this is a school that has expelled people for non violent, pro Palestinian protests. So, I mean, this is what we're dealing with.

It's not just this school, and it's not just this school police department like I. But it's. Trying to report these things is, impossible.

Exactly. Exactly. That's what I mean. She left school. She gave up on her dream. If she hadn't gotten these Snapchat evidence, then none of this would be happening. We wouldn't know this had happened. And those guys would all go to med school and get married and have careers. Now they're all gonna be famous. God bless her for this, because I'm sorry. I want to scare every man alive out of doing.

To ruin their lives.

I want to horrify, every guy from even thinking about this or even thinking about letting this happen. And I'll tell you right now, the ugliest thing on the Internet is these disgraceful humps like Nick Fuentes and Ben Shapiro, this twisted Ben Shapiro who's coming out and blaming the woman. And I mean, they are taking this on a fundraising level. They are appealing directly to the kind of men who want to hear this woman called a. And the New York Times just released the Snapchat conversation. I can't wait to hear these manosphere curs like Joel Webon defend the content of these. Because if folks haven't read them yet, I would apply many heavy trigger warnings. But you need to see what's going on. And the Cornell administration really needs to answer for why this was met with. Write an essay. I mean, it's out there. We know what they said. We know how they regarded this woman. We know what they were doing. And you've literally got adult men right now out there on the Internet space showing their name and face and saying that she was consensual and this is what she wanted. Yeah, I mean, I mean, it's. It's.

I see your point.

And I'm not trying. I'm not trying to put a rosy bow on it. I'm trying to say, as someone who is not able to handle his anger over these still, and it's an issue that's affected my family, I give so much gratitude to this woman for doing it, for coming forward after the most horrible thing you can imagine and putting herself out there again because it can't take away what was done to her, but it's gonna make it harder for someone else to try it.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And, you know, I totally get that. I totally do. But.

But, yeah. And again, I don't think this would have happened.

Is still happening. It just blows my mind.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

But I mean, sure. Thanks. That that one kid was shamed into handing over Snapchat screenshots or whatever. But what would you do that night, man?

What'd you do that night? Yeah, I mean, all these guys that, you know, got the message and didn't do anything. I mean, any of these guys that just saw the alert, they could have called 911. Nobody would have known. They chose not to. Yeah.

And all this stuff about, well, we're protecting women, we're going to protect the women. Unless it's, you know, socially uncomfortable for me to do that. I might lose a friend, you know.

Yeah, yeah, but I mean, these privileged frat bros gang raped a girl and they invited others to join in. Girl was unconscious for like seven hours. I mean, this again. Cornell removed four students from campus in 2024 for. For protest of Gaza. These guys get to stay in school. And this is the Epstein class. She dropped out. They stayed in. Men have to be part of the solution, you know, and it's not just about making, you know, yes, we have to stop making women responsible for preventing men's violence. This burqa mentality. She shouldn't have been dressed that way, blah, blah, blah. No, it's teaching young men to recognize not just rape, but recognize incapacitation, to recognize coercion, to recognize non consent, and to teach them that when your friend is crossing a line, you have an obligation. It's not a betrayal to your friend. But. But think about the culture we've grown up in. I was having this conversation with my producer, Thea, yesterday about the movie Sixteen Candles, which, like, when that came out, I was so appalled as a kid by the racism. And then in the end, it's like, Anthony Michael hall rapes this girl while she's passed out. And all of my friends back then, you know, the word woke wasn't in vogue yet as a slur, but they all pretty much said that I was way too sensitive for being uptight about it. And like, oh, and I had a

big problem, ah, at a young age with Revenge of the Nerds when he dresses up, ah, in a disguise as the girl's boyfriend and has sex with her. Right?

Yeah, yeah. I mean, you know, and again, this is the kind of inhumanity that a lot of us have grown up with. But it's like, watch who they protect. Watch who they protect. Whether it's Trump or whether it's the university administrators. Watch who they protect. Watch. They did not protect this woman.

No, they, they failed her miserably. And, and, and, you know, I'm waiting To see, my understanding is, is that this is the same DA The DA is reopening the case, Right?

Yeah.

For criminal investigation.

And that's only because so many people were so disgusted. Again, I don't know if this could have happened 25 years ago.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Because what the DA is saying is that, well, first of all, the DA pissed me off when he said, well, she had a different testimony, different things to say.

yes. When she was traumatized the first couple of days. Yeah.

Right. And then the second thing, maybe she

didn't want people to know what had happened. You know, Go on.

But then the second thing is, is that he. They. The DA says that they didn't get any of the Snapchat text messages from the Cornell police, the campus police. And I'm waiting to see how much of this is the fault of the Cornell campus police to stymie the D A case. Do you know what I'm saying?

Yeah. Because this is rape culture. This is not just about, you know, men have to stop committing rape and get. I mean, this is a system.

Yeah. This is a whole system.

The institutions conceal it, and systems need to respond with serious, credible consequences for wrongdoing when it's established. I mean, that it's. It's really basic stuff. I mean, this is not. This is. This is. Don't eat the silica gel of justice here. I mean, you know, again, Cornell University is really, I think the starkest crime of all of this.

I agree. Anyway, my friend, it's always good to talk to you. I know. There were more things we wanted to see. Boy.

Yeah, I mean, you sure you don't want to lighten the mood by talking about third party deportations or something fun like that?

Oh, third country deportations being okay? Or our taxpayer money is being spent on dystopian ads and CNN and Ms. Now are buying them.

Did you like that? Did you like that? I. I just saw the Hatch act hanging itself in a Motel 6. It's beautiful. I mean, paid for by the US government. I'm like, you mean me? I paid for this, this, this two year old campaign ad? I mean, they're saying. They're saying it's a. It's, a. There. It's a. It's a public service announcement they're trying to get around.

Public service announcement? Yeah. Against communism. After we rolled out the red carpet for Xi Jinping and offered to sell

him arms, take down the warmongers, I was in the airport all day. In Chicago, and I heard this thing during the game. Take down the warmongers. I guess he's inviting us to go after himself. If this is a service, Alison, the service appears to be telling the public that Donald Trump wants the public to know how much Donald Trump likes Donald Trump. That's the only PSA content I got from this thing.

I'm sure there were all kinds of little legal language and loopholes that they said with the certain magic words that you can't say in order to make it a political ad ad. I'm sure they went through all of that.

It's still illegal. I mean, you know, it's like. It's like the worst case of, of. Of a political ad, just being in witness protection program. And we paid for the ad, we watched the ad. We're going to probably pay for the legal fight over whether they're allowed to do it. It's like the ultimate bundled service. And, like, attacking Jackson.

It's nothing like that. But, you know, like, think about how lucky we are that we get to pay for the Department of Justice and Todd Bland relitigating Watergate. Looking back at Watergate again.

But again, this ad was no different than the attack on Jack Smith. Yeah, this is their desperate Hail Mary campaign plays because they don't have any legislative accomplishments that they can run on. They have to attack other people and try to shift the narrative away from us talking about how high the gas prices are and how high the price everything is. And talk about, oh, mean, Mr. M. Trump banished Politico from the White House for three days. I mean, there's one thing this guy is good at, and it's manipulating the media and misdirecting a narrative. And, I think that's what all this is. This is them trying to urge people to believe that they've done something they hate who you hate. And seriously, that's generally been enough.

Yeah, historically speaking, you are correct. All right, my friend. It's always good to see you. And it's always good to talk to you. I, know that you've got a show coming up. Yeah.

Oh, my goodness, you're so kind. Yeah. We're doing only one date of the Stephanie Miller Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour this whole year. It's gonna be in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, at the Saban Theater on October 24th. That's on Wilshire by La Cienega. You know the place. Stephanie Miller House Parks. Frangela and myself with our special guests, who include Senator Adam Schiff, future Attorney General Glenn Kirschner and Last Jedi Mark Hamill. Your bff, Allison. Boy, you and him are. You and him are like, I'm looking at you guys on Blue sky. Like, get a room, you two. Good Lord.

He's a good friend. I really enjoy talking to him.

He's very good to me.

He's amazing. and, yeah, Blue Wave Nation. I think there's going to be some donations, going on for that.

yes, and more announcements coming early next week about this big show. But it's Saturday, October 24th. I can't wait to be back on the west coast for this, and I, hope you all will, turn out and be part of it.

No, no, no. They. I'm sorry, My, my, My publisher doesn't like me saying this, but don't buy this book for your MAGA relatives. This is a book for people who have to deal with your MAGA relatives of any background. This is great. If you're a generalist, will weaponize this book like the Cross and throw it at you. Don't. I mean, I need the money, but go ahead. I mean, buy it. don't put them in little free

libraries if, you know, if you're.

Yeah, please buy lots of copies. I just, I care about y'. All. it's to deal with them, not to change them, because it's not your job to deprogram a zealot.

But, yes, me too.

Anyway, it's always a good time to talk to you, and I really appreciate everything that you have to say, and especially men getting involved in taking responsibility and preventing these kinds of things like Cornell from happening. I appreciate it.

Thank you. Yeah. You know what? I'm. I'm. I'm honestly, There's a part of me that says, who the hell are you with your Y chromosome to talk about this. And it's like, no, A lot more men have to talk about this a lot more. I'm so sick. I'm so tired of being embarrassed by it. You know, guys, there's so many ways to be a jerk. You don't need to commit violence on another person. Good lord, find. Find some other way to be antisocial. Great.

Some listeners were concerned that the show was becoming paid only. That will never, ever, ever be the case. We promise it will never be a paid only show. Apologies from the behind the scenes Beans. And for Tax, what I hope the Trump Chicago building will look like someday and some giant space cats. Japan. This is from our producer, I think. Look, there's the Chicago building with no Trump word on it.

Oh, it's so beautiful with no Trump on it.

It's really nice. Okay. And there's just some giant space cats for sure.

Don't know if it's supposed to be Brian, but I think I'm gonna go with brain pronouns he and him. I had a chuckle over Allison's pronunciation of Bichon Frise. I intentionally mispronounced them as bitch and Frizzy. Thanks for the fun and fighting the idiocracy. Pet tax is just Lottie being cute. And Lottie.

Sure, I'm bitching Frizzy, but.

But being awfully cute.

Look at the little baby. All right, next up from Sarah. She and her shout out to a local business for doing great things. My friend's son Kyle publishes a wonderful resource for North Carolinians and those who care about NC politics called the Assembly. You can find it at the Assembly NC for North Carolina the assemblync.com this award winning publication is like the Atlantic with long form articles but for the state. It began as strictly politics, but they address other local interest topics too. If the Leguminati is interested in supporting a really special regional publication and you could do so, it would mean a lot to Kyle and his talented team. He has no idea I'm doing this, so let's surprise them with a bunch of new subscriptions. Again, that's the assemblync.com podbet tax is the Otters photo that graces one of the elevators at the hospital where I work. Each elevator has a local nature photo, but this car is my favorite because it makes me think of AG and DG and the Legumes team. The second photo is a day out with Anna, Bill and my shy guy who have become my best pals here

in our new city.

We met at the Chicago gala.

Nice.

So huge. Thanks for that MSW Media look at the otters. Oh the otters are great. I love that y' all are making friends at our gala and keeping those friends. That's so great. I love this community so much.

That makes me happy too. All right, from Anonymous Pronoun she and her hello Supreme Queens of the Beans. There's good news out of the State of Utah. The State Representative Trevor Lee has resigned due to being charged with four felonies by the State Attorney General. He had been charged with two counts of fraud and two fraudulent documents related charges. He falsified records in order to fraudulently get a million dollar mortgage loan. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

Oh, so there is some mortgage fraud out there. It's just with Republicans.

Yeah. Apparently Trevor Lee is a piece of shit who wrote the bill that banned pride flags from state properties and tried to get the name of Harvey Mack Boulevard in Salt Lake City changed to Charlie Kirk Boulevard, among many other racist and hateful crap he's tried to pull. I hope he enjoys prison. Hopefully this is an appetizer to all of the future Justice. Meet out on the criming grifting Republican asshats currently trashing our country. Thank you for helping keep us sane yet informed while collectively trying to survive the worst and dumbest timeline ever. Pet Tags Here is my super sweet chonky boy Kitty Toby, also known as Tobias Toblerone Tobsicas Toby beans and badonka chunk. Look at the big chunker, look at the padonka chunk.

Absolute unit. Thank you Anonymous Next up, it's from Damn it Dave Pronouns he and him thank you folks for all the news was swearing and the special thanks for the good news and the good trouble segments. I'm listening to the song Don't Just Sit There by the Crack. Since you and your listeners share that which gives you hope and joy, I thought I would return the favor and put the spotlight on my adopted hometown of Carbondale, Illinois and those who have helped provide connection, friendship and community not only to myself, but countless other disparate people. I'm referring specifically to the people associated with the Lost Cross House. We'll have a link in the show Notes to this Lost Cross is believed to be the oldest continually operating punk house basement venue in America. This past Labor Day weekend, The cross celebrated 40 years of musical self expression and flipping the bird to authoritarian assholes from Reagan through two Bushes and now Trump. After having somewhat contentious relationship for years, the city of Carbondale has become not only accommodating, but even incredibly welcoming by allowing bands to play at the city's new outdoor music venue, blocking off the street in front of Lost Cross for an outdoor stage and permitting open containers. No clinky clinky, but yes, drinky drinky. Dozens of current and reunited bands that have brought our community great happiness played at venues across town for this special gathering, including Diet Christ and the Digits and Hold My Old Style and watch this. U.S. senator Tammy Duckworth issued a special proclamation honoring Lost cross for its 40th anniversary. She formally declared that the, quote, iconic staple of Southern Illinois music history is more than a house in recognition of its decades of hosting underground bands. After his band played, one of my friends commented, forty years ago, I never would have dreamed something like this could have ever happened. Attached is a photo of the Lost Cross senior class and you can go to lostcross.org for more pictures and music. And I can't fully express the joy I felt in catching up, however briefly, with people. I hadn't seen her years, or maybe even decades while meeting new people who give me hope for the future. So please continue to echo my takeaway from this experience. Persistence for betterment brings small incremental improvement. Better than all or nothing and pass forward the joy of even the smallest win. Now hit play on Kick out the Tories by Newton Neurotics and make sure we get the vote out.

Nice.

It's a great picture. Look at that.

That's a great Crew Amazing. I know. All right, next up from Kimmy, pronouns she and her hi Queens of the beans, AKA hosts of the roast. I listen every morning. I love that I listen every morning. And I can't thank you enough for keeping me sane and delivering the news in bite sized pieces I can actually stomach. I'm a blue dot in south central Pennsylvania in Scott Perry's district and I'm riding with good news. Recent polls show his opponents, Janelle Stelson pulling ahead. I know we can't rely on polls, but I find this encouraging. In the red district, Perry has got to go. My husband and I are doing everything we can to unseat Trader Perry along with a far right MAGA Republican in the Pennsylvania State house. We're donating, writing postcards, canvassing, attending events and spreading the word every chance we get. On election day, we're taking off work to drive voters to polls, greet voters and do whatever else is needed. If we all do our part, I truly believe we'll be celebrating a blue wave in November and we're gonna have a link to indivisible.org and mobilize us to help out just like Kimmy is. If you wanna help out, they will show you the ways to do that. My POD pet tariff. I submit Demi, my seven month old kitten. Can you guess her breed? Yes, her breed is fucking adorable and I'm talking about a kitten. Actually, all kittens are adorable. Horrible cats. Questionable. We named her for her striking blue eyes. I wanted to name to match and my daughter suggested Demi for Democrat Blue. She's playful and rambunctious, but also a total snugglepuss who purrs so hard she drools like a dog. She's the best Demi cat. This is wild. There's no breed given. but our producer says. Do you know what they say? Alice, Allison, I'm zooming in and there

looks to be some curly fur there on the chest. Do you see that?

I do. What's that mean?

That would mean this could be part Devin Rex, but I would love to know Kimmy, if you get some DNA done. What?

This producer thinks it looks like a

Russian blue, but the Russian blues are gray.

Well, our producer may not maybe colorblind. Are you fucking. All I know is this cat looks like a fucking cartoon that someone drew. If, they gave it to a cartoonist, it was like, draw a cat. Cat. This is what the cat would look like.

Yeah, it's amazing.

It's adorable.

Super cute. Thank you very much for that submission and the photo next up from Reagan, she and her. I want to thank you for addressing the recent rash of hangings of black people. Black people do not hang themselves. Some of the cases you mentioned I did not even know about. And I've been trying to keep track. I do a podcast with a bunch of old farts. Nowhere near as successful as your award winning podcast. But this is one of the things I talk about and update our listeners on. Regularly hangings and also missing black women, which does not get the attention it deserves. I appreciate you ladies always bring these topics to your audience, and it's one of the reasons I listen every day. Thank you, Reagan. My pod pet tariff is my good boy Remington. Great name. Who's currently going through some health issues with a disc in his neck. Say a little prayer for us if you can. I don't know what I would do without him. He's gotten me through some tough times since COVID and he's my best friend. Thanks. A loyal black queer listener in Richmond, Virginia. Vote early and blue, Virginia.

Okay, listen to me. Regan1, you are beautiful and this dog is adorable.

Yes, yes.

Oh, my goodness, what a fantastic picture. Thank you for that.

Yes, thank you so much. I appreciate that. Reagan and I love. Is it a little Pomeranian you got there? I'm gonna send all the good vibes out.

Little pom pom. All right, next up from Julie. No pronouns given. Good morning, Beans, Queens. Yesterday, I was speaking with a guy I hired to clean our windows. I asked him if he was registered to vote, and he confided that he's never voted. I looked up where and how he should register and encouraged him to vote. He said I was a third person who had asked him. Talk to people, people. You are more persuasive than you know. He messaged that he went to register yesterday afternoon. I wanted to get one lawn sign this year instead of having one for each candidate I support. I ordered this one from Etsy, and I couldn't be more thrilled with its message. Complain, hope, or vote. It's the only thing that counts. And the vote is big old check mark on vote.

Fantastic. Julie. Yes. studies show if you talking to a person that knows you in the world, you have a 12 times better chance of getting, helping them vote. So seriously, people that you see at the store, people that you work with, your colleagues, people you run into, you know, all the time. Like, I'm. I'm pretty tight with the security person over at my local food market. Like, hey, what's up? What's up? You know, and, I always make sure I stop and ask them if they need help registering to vote or anything like that. So. Wonderful. Well done. All right, everybody, that's our show. As Dana said earlier, if you want to see what's going on with this crazy pants, absolutely crazy pants letter that was written from a state elections board member, a Republican, unelected Republican, to Todd Blanche to help, I don't know, make their voting machines illegal, come see us on Beans Talk. Any final thoughts, my friend?

No, that covers it.

All right, everybody, we'll be back in your ears on Monday. There'll be an episode of Breakdown on Sunday along with Unjustified. We'll see you on Beans Talk. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take of care, care of your mental health, take care of your family, vote blue no matter who,

and take everyone you know with you.

And vote down ballot. I've been ag. I've been dg and them's the Beans. The Daily Beans is written and executive produced by Alison Gill with additional research and reporting by Dana Goldberg.
