Msw media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Monday, November 2, 2026. Today, a federal judge has tossed Blanche and Trump's lawsuit, seeking to block certification of the Alaska election results. Senator Chris Murphy suffered a minor stroke on Sunday and is recovering at Johns Hopkins. A federal judge imposed a sweeping emergency order halting various aggressive tactics employed by the Trump administration in recent days to pressure election officials across the country. Over 40% of the names on the Justice Department's list of 20,000 Californian non citizens are not even on the voter rolls. The FBI is trying to fabricate voter confusion over the Dan Sullivans in Alaska. The ICE officer who purposefully ran down a man in Houston, Texas, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. ICE paid $495 million for a $75 million prison. And congressional Democrats want to investigate. A judge is weighing blocking construction of Trump's arch. Another judge has dismissed Trump's defamation case against the Wall Street Journal. And Congresswoman Haley Stevens has endorsed Abdul EL Sayed's Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. I'm Alison Gill.
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Hello, my friend. I hope you had a relaxing weekend.
I did, yeah. Still recovering from whatever this is. And then I decided to get the flu shot. And I would just say to those of you out there who may be, you know, compromised in general, if you believe in getting the flu sh. I would suggest you do it. Someone very near and dear to me got the influenza A, and it is a beast. And I was talking to some of the doctors, and even very young people are ending up in the hospital because of influenza A this year. So if you are someone who needs it, just go get it. If you've been putting it off, just go get it. That's all I say. And again, not a doctor. I'm just saying, if you believe in it, go do it.
Yeah, get your vaccine, for sure. that's. Yeah, I hear it's a really bad one this time around. I had a pretty good weekend. I got to spend some time with some, friends of mine for some birthday celebrations and Halloween festivities in, New Orleans. And I think I had a better weekend than Haley Stevens.
What the fuck? I mean, we're going to be covering this on beans talk, like in depth, but whole, like, what a t. I mean, a turnaround and not even, like, oh, maybe a slow burn on this, like a 180 overnight. And everyone in the Democratic Party is furious. People are speaking out that would never normally give statements about this.
Right. And we're going to cover it all and a little bit here, but we'll cover it all on Beans Talk with, particularly with the backlash and all the statements that came after maybe a little bit of a discussion on why the hell she's doing this. I think it might have something to do with her abusive fiance. But, you know, when, when I say abusive, I mean, obviously psychologically abusive. I don't know about any physical abuse, but,
yeah,
you know, it's just a. It's wild. It's a weird day in Michigan politics on Sunday. Later in the show, I'm going to have Matthew Cole on to talk with me about his new book, Princes and Thieves. That's the Jared Kushner book, the one that broke all the news recently. So I'm going to talk to the author there, and I'm really looking forward to that discussion. I know he has a lot to say.
Oh, I bet he does. our thoughts, by the way, just to switch gears for a second, are with Senator Chris Murphy and his loved ones. Senator Murphy has been hospitalized following a stroke. I believe it is a minor stroke. However, he is recovering in the hospital right now. His chief of staff put out a statement, and I quote, yesterday afternoon, Senator Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son's hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. So we'll continue to keep he and his family in our thoughts. And, yeah, it's. It's hard for everyone when something like this happens.
For sure. 53 years old.
Yeah.
My age, you know. All right, everybody, we have so much news today. I kind of split it up a little bit for you. We're going to do a big chunk of what's on the docket, and then we're going to get to the rest of the news and the hot notes. So let's do some quick hits. And
to make a long story short.
All right, from the Wall Street Journal, A federal judge on Saturday dismissed for a second time Donald Trump's lawsuit against the publisher Wall Street Journal, finding that he hadn't established a viable claim that he was defamed by an article about a birthday letter sent to disgraced financier. Please don't call him that. Sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. U.S. district Judge Darren Gales, based in Miami, said Trump's allegations are conclusory, vague, sometimes inconsistent with the article, and often irrelevant. Yeah. To his argument that the Journal published the 2025 report with actual malice. This time, though, the judge dismissed it with prejudice. So he can't bring this $10 billion lawsuit again. Again. This was that drawing of the young woman's body
pubescent. Yeah,
yeah.
Disgusting.
Yeah,
disgusting. Speaking of dismissals, this is from the Times. A federal judge in Alaska has dismissed the Trump administration's lawsuit that preemptively challenged the results of the Senate race. The ruling is the latest in a series of court defeats for the Trump administration, which has been seeking to intervene in state administered elections. On Friday, the U.S. district Court in California blocked the administration from threatening to prosecute state and local election officials who do not comply with the department's directives on handling ballots, which are mostly illegal directives. Also on Friday, a federal appeals court panel denied a request to order California officials to set aside about 20,000 mail in ballots that the administration claimed had been sent to possible non citizens. Possible is carrying a lot of weight in that sentence. And in her Sunday ruling, Chief Judge Sharon Gleason of U.S. district Court in Alaska wrote that she did not see how the federal government's proposed solution to any confusion would solve the problem, if it even existed, or how the approach could even work given the right to a secret ballot is a core principle of American democracy. Now, the federal government, she wrote, and I quote, offers no rebuttal to the concerns regarding preservation of the secrecy of voting and provides no explanation of how its request for ballot segregation and a court ordered investigation by law enforcement officers into certain voters intent could even be implemented while preserving the secrecy of the ballot.
Right. So think about it. Right? Let's say you're Todd Blanche and you want to find out why if Bob voted for Dan Sullivan 1 instead of Dan Sullivan 2, and you want to ask Bob if he meant to vote for the incumbent Dan Sullivan when he didn't vote for. But now you know who Bob voted for.
Yeah.
And that violates secrecy, so you can't. What do you have? What? Shut up. Is what the judge said.
Shut up.
Get this from pbs. The FBI has begun reaching out to donors of Dan J. Sullivan since they can't ask who you voted for. And asking about potential deception as federal authorities are ramping up their investigations into U.S. senate candidates in Alaska who share the same name. The guy you know. The Dan Sullivans agents have contacted donors in at least two remote communities in Alaska and a couple in Massachusetts. An, Anchorage based FBI agent visited a boat dealership in Petersburg, a small fishing community accessible only by air or water, where the candidate lives. The agent left a business card for a guy named Charles Flint who told the Associated Press he's known Dan J. Sullivan for years as a respected teacher and musician. This is the other Dan Sullivan, quote, I don't feel like I've been misled at all. That's what Flint said, who's been out of town, told the Associated Press in a telephone interview, adding he had no intention of calling the agent but would, quote, let him waste his time trying to track me down if he wants, quote, I don't think there's any confusion, he said, adding he intends to rank Mary Peltola first on his ballot, followed by Dan J. Sullivan. And then he went on to say everybody knows who the incumbent is.
That's amazing.
I posted on social media, I said, how much money do you want to bet that the FBI pays somebody to vote for Dan Sullivan too? And then say they were confused?
Yeah,
how much do you want to. And here they are knocking on donors doors. Weren't you confused? Were you confused? You were confused, right? No.
Oh my God. This is bananas.
Yeah, it is.
All right. This one's from cnn. A federal judge imposed a sweeping emergency order halting various aggressive tactics employed by the Trump administration in recent days to pressure election officials across the country. And this is a quote. Although defendants claim that their actions are designed to halt unlawful voting by noncitizen, their actions are likely to have the effect of interfering with election administration and disenfranchising lawful voters. This is what US District Judge Trina Thompson said in her opinion granting a temporary restraining order Friday evening. She said while her order is in place, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security cannot demand that election officials in any state segregate ballots, purge voters from voter rolls, or halt ballot votes processing.
Nice. That's a pretty sweeping order. And I just want to read real quick this letter from the Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read. He sent this to the Department of Justice. Mr. McCotter, the number two, right, the deputy attorney general, he's like 39 years old. He's a little piss aunt, fuck face, real punchable face kind of Guy. Dear Mr. McCotter, I received your letter dated October 29th as a fully vote by mail state. Our election has been well underway for weeks. More than 1 million Oregonians have already exercised their constitutional right to hold government accountable in free and fair American elections. We anticipate that when all ballots are cast and tallied, Oregon's turnout of eligible voters will be among the highest in the nation. Yet again, in Oregon, we take our responsibility to protect free and fair elections seriously. We follow the law, the Oregon Constitution and the Constitution in the United States of America, the federal government protects, should do the same. As secretaries of state across the country know, effective election administration requires professionalism, competency, and attention to detail. It is in that spirit that I will point out to you that my name is spelled R E a D, as in read the Constitution. Please update your contact information accordingly, and thank you for your attention to this matter. Tobias Reid,
well said. Well said. This next one's from Politico. A federal judge appeared skeptical Friday of the Trump administration's bid to begin construction on President Donald Trump's proposed triumphal arch, or arc arch. I wish he would try and build an arch at the foot of Arlington National Cemetery, and then Republicans could just get on it two by two and go out into the seas. US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who we love, said the Supreme Court's recent decision to permit construction on a White House ballroom after preservation group sued doesn't preclude a similar legal effort against the arch, which could break ground as early as November 5th. The Vietnam Veterans who sued over the arch and who described deep personal connections to the hallowed ground of Arlington Cemetery and its surroundings had a more compelling case that might pass Supreme Court muster. This is what the judge said during a hearing. Still, Chutkan agreed the issue of whether the veterans had standing to sue to block the arch was complex and said she would weigh the matter over the weekend. The plaintiffs are asking her to halt construction of the arch by next week. And I think in the past, you know, Chutkan has always been a very fair judge and a judge that we trust. And so, you know, she's following the Constitution here in a law.
Yeah. And she'll, if, if she decides that the veterans don't have standing, she'll probably give a hint as to who might.
Absolutely.
So, but, arch construction is supposed to start immediately or like on the 5th or shortly thereafter. So we'll see what she says. We'll keep you posted here on the beans. All right. We have to still get to the hot notes. We haven't even gotten to the hot notes yet. We're going to do that after this quick break. Stick around. We'll be right back
after these messages. We'll be right back

All right, first up from the Associated Press, Michigan Democrat Abdul Al Said's former opponent in the U.S. senate primary, Haley Stevens, stunned party officials Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers after Democratic tensions boiled over days before the election that could determine the balance of power in Capitol Hill. Stevens endorsed Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him. The remarkable show of support for the President Donald Trump backed candidate in the tightly contested race comes after she was uninvited to join an event the same day with El Said, who defeated the congresswoman by a slim margin in the August primary. Quote, our Democratic nominee for Senate, Said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away from. That's what Stephen said in a video announcing her endorsement, which led her top aide to quit. It's been there for eight years, by the way, quote, and he's right. And that's why I'm endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today. Now, Democrats had hoped that Sunday would be a show of unity. Instead, Stephen swayed to gospel music alongside Rogers in the pews of a perfecting church, while El Sayed was a few miles away at a different house of worship, campaigning alongside prominent Democrats, including South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn. The Associated Press attended both services as the dramatic split screen unfolded. And again, we're going to talk about this and the swift backlash over on Beans Talk today. We'll show you the statements. But basically her whole staff quit.
Wow. I saw chief of staff statement was very, very stern.
Yes.
All right, next up from the Times, Core Civic, a private prison company approached the Minnesota Department of Corrections last year offering to sell a long shutter detention facility. The price, $75 million. State officials passed. They didn't have the funds to buy the Prairie Correctional Facility in western Minnesota, nor did they need a prison of its size or have the ability to staff it. Last summer, to the astonishment, the 1600 bed prison sold for more than $495 million. The buyer, the Department of Homeland Security. And I, quote, the price tag is so different than the conversations we were having last year. This is from Safia Khan, the deputy commissioner and chief of staff for the Minnesota Department of Corrections. It was a shock. DHS purchased the facility amid a multi billion dollar spending spree to support the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign. It plans to use it to expand its immigration detention capacity, one part of a buildup whose ballooning budget was faulted last month by the Government Accountability Office, a watchdog agency, as a hastily and poorly planned waste of millions of taxpayer dollars. The department is also facing scrutiny over the purchase of 10 used jets. We've talked about this before. For 464 million this year in a no bid contract. The department said it needed the planes for deportation flights, but most of them have largely just sat idle.
Yeah, and what's interesting is got, a scoop, a little scoop lit a couple of days ago. Finally, one of the tail numbers of those purchased planes by Kristi Noem in the last hour, you know, overpriced that where she overpaid. One of them is now being put into the ICE detention fleet and is being Used for deportations, but probably only because somebody just started investigating those plane purchases. And so now they're, like, scrambling like, oh, no, it's totally
legit.
Totally legit.
Yeah.
All right, next up is from the Times. A grand jury in Texas on Friday indicted an ICE agent who struck and injured a Mexican construction worker with his vehicle in the Houston area this month. That's what authorities said. Dana, you remember we covered the video portion of this on, the Beans Talk.
Yeah. It was horrible.
Showed that the ICE agent just mowed the guy down.
Yeah.
Now, this agent, Mario Alberto Morales, he's 33. He's facing state charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is the charge we were hoping that, Texas would bring against this agent. This is Shawn Teare, the district attorney in Harris county, saying that that's the charge. And, you know, Harris county is where Houston is. And he added that Mr. Morales has not surrendered yet. Efforts to reach Morales were not successful, and it's unclear if whether he had legal representation. Mr. Morales is the first federal agent to face charges in Texas as part of Trump's immigration crackdown in September, several federal prosecutors charged an ICE officer who had shot a Venezuelan man in Minneapolis with lying about it. The officer, Christian Castro, faces several counts of making false statements in his account of the January 14th shooting and has pled not guilty. The Houston worker struck by ICE is Miguel Para Hernandez. He's 48, an undocumented immigrant. He was driving to his job on October 10th when federal immigration authorities tried to pull him over in unmarked vehicles. That's according to Houston immigration advocates. When Mr. Para Hernandez stopped the car, he and a passenger tried to flee. ICE has said that Mr. Para Hernandez had run in front of its vehicle and was struck. But surveillance video from a business showed us what we all saw with our own eyes. Mr. Para Hernandez and another man running away as an ICE vehicle veered around the corner and appeared to hit Mr. Para Hernandez from behind. Mr. Para Hernandez remains in ICE custody, Dana. a rehabilitation center recovering from severe leg injuries. The authorities said at a news conference on Friday announcing the charges that he's in a rehab facility but in ICE detention now. The agency said in an unsigned statement that the allegations against Morales were false and that ICE agents, quote, are held to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and ethical conduct. Unquote. Wow.
Yeah. My goodness. All right, from ABC. More than four in 10 names flagged as possible non citizen voters in California by the Trump administration. They cannot be found on the state's voter rolls. According to Illegal filing Saturday by immigration rights groups. It's the first outside analysis of the list that the Department of Justice has used to threaten prosecution of election officials. The analysis also found that thousands of US Citizens appeared to be flagged as ineligible to vote on the government's list. The contention was made in a filing by two data analysts at the University of California, Los Angeles. They analyzed the 20,930 names that the department demanded that California election officials treat as possible illegal voters by separating their ballots during the vote count on Election Day. Multiple judges have rejected the demand as unconstitutional and a threat to democracy, and local and state officials have said the list appears riddled with errors. The breadth of the problems with the list was outlined in Saturday's filing. It describes an analysis by two members of UCLA's Voting Rights Project who filed a lawsuit challenging it with the Los Angeles based Coalition for Human Immigration rights, or C H I R L A. The research found that 8,800 of the names, representing 42% of the entire list, do not correspond to anyone in California's current voter file. It also found at least 22 are US citizens and many more may correspond to those of confirmed citizens and a quote. The expert analysis further makes clear that the mandated voter list endangers a significant number of eligible California voters, said the filing, which was co signed by Xavier Becerra, the Democratic candidate for California governor and adviser of the UCLA Voting Rights Project. The Trump administration had objected to sharing the list, calling it a fishing expedition and noting that it included sensitive information. On Saturday, the federal prosecutor who superheaded the Trump case in California called the analysis bogus.
You know, like I was listening to one of those hearings on the 20,000 ballots and the DOJ confirmed that that there was some sort of an AI enhancement of the list done by a third party vendor. And they wouldn't answer the judge when asked about who the third party vendor was or what the AI enhancement was like.
M
It's all a mystery. And now it's just obvious it's still bogus. All right, everybody. So that's the news. We're going to head on to the good news, but only after I talked to Matthew Cole about, his new book, Princes and Thieves. Stick around, we'll be right back. like everything, dining out is just too expensive. Ordering from delivery is just too expensive. Hey, everybody, welcome back. The interview you're about to hear or the interview you're about to see, depending on whether you're watching it or listening to it, contains allegations that have not been independently verified by this network, msw, media. It is important to note that Jared Kushner's attorney has denied all of the allegations made by the author in the book princes and thieves. Mr. Kushner actually has published his response on his website, Jared Kushner.com and we will link to his response in the episode. Hey, everybody, welcome to the Breakdown. Matthew Cole is an investigative journalist and the author of Code over the Tragedy and Corruption of Seal Team 6. Cole worked at the Intercept for many years, which we cover a lot of the work there, here on this show and on the Daily Beans and before that, as an investigative producer for NBC News and ABC News. And you can find his latest work by signing up for his substack called the Cole Rose Report. and I'm very pleased to speak with him today. Please welcome Matthew Cole.
Thanks for having me, Austin. It's good to
be here. Thank you. first of all, just thank you for Writing this book, I know it took a lot of research. I know it took a lot of work. we've been covering this across multiple, these kinds of stories, across multiple podcasts going all the way back to the Mueller. She wrote podcasts, starting with the Marshall Plan and Copson and all of that with the idea to remake and sort of colonize, the Middle East. And a lot of this comes out of that, and it ties into us or into. Into that reporting, for. For so many years now. And I wanted you to first address how the Dutch got this intel. You write about this in the book, and how they got this intel, and also what they found out about these bank accounts, that Jared Kushner had access to. Can we start there?
Yeah, but before we start there, I want to start with, just out of, fairness, I want to say, as I'm doing in all of my interviews, that Jared Kushner and his lawyer deny every allegation in my book, unequivocally, and, have said that he had, no offense, access to foreign accounts, knows nothing about them, and that everything he did, while he served in the White House was with the permission, and at the request or direction of the President, United States. So with that out of the way, yeah, let me answer that. So, you know, one thing about the. Before getting to the story of the hack is just for your listeners to, and your audience to understand is that what I'll explain about the hack is the way I got into the. The story, as the reporter, but the hack itself was, While interesting, is not the. You know, when you put. When you're talking about meat and potatoes in terms of what the potential wrongdoing here is, from the first administration with Kushner's shadow foreign policy. It's, you know, it's just sort of the way in. And I, during the. During COVID in the summer of 2020, was, I was an investigative reporter at, the Intercept, as you said at the intro, and I was working on a story about Blackwater, founder Erik Prince and whether he had supplied mercenaries, tried to supply mercenaries to a Libyan, renegade Libyan leader who was trying to, overthrow his government, named Khalifa Haftar. And I, got a call from a source who, had this story. I mean, it wasn't actually. They weren't giving me a story. They were asking me for help, in terms of whether or not I could help understand some things that they were looking at and what they were looking at was that the Dutch had, the Dutch intelligence service. The mivid had run, an operation a few years earlier. They had, ah, confronted or caught a Russian gruff, hacker operative, as he was traveling through Europe. And they sort of gave him an ultimatum which was that he could work for them or he could end up, finishing his trip in the uk where he'd be arrested and eventually prosecuted and go to prison. And he agreed to help with the Dutch. And so the Dutch unit, the mibd, they work almost exclusively against Russia. you know, they're a member of NATO. Russia is essentially their big enemy, certainly in their part of the world. And they had a long history of tracking, Russian intelligence, especially cyber, operations that the Russians were doing, including in 2014, they watched, they spied on the Russian spies who were then hacking into the US State Department email system. And they eventually alerted the Americans. and so they had a long history of doing this. Once they got access to, once they started working with this gru, operative, he gave them access to a server, a remote server that GRU used, in Rostov, ah, Russia. And they started looking around as they're want to do. And in the process of their inspection of the Russia, the GRU server, what they found was the, the fact the Russians, the GRU was looking at Jared's iPhone, had somehow compromised his phone and gotten one of his phones and gotten access. And what they decided to do then was figure out if they could recreate the method that the Russians had used to get into the phone. the iPhone at that time was the new, iPhone X. It had the, I think that was the first one that had the face, security on it. So it had sort of Apple's top of the line security. And they wanted to understand how the Russians had technically been able to get in. But there was also this question because of the Trump Russia stuff that was going on, the Mueller investigation at the time, and Trump's hostility towards NATO. A question of what was the relationship between Russia and Kushner. and did that give them some insight into understanding what the relationship was between Russia and Trump? and so they worked for several months to try to figure out how to get into the phone. And by a few months into 2018 they were able to. And they had, the way I describe it in the book is they didn't pick the lock, they found a side window to get into. and what that did was it didn't allow them to control Kushner's phone. It allowed them to see what the phone showed when he had it on and was looking at it. So they essentially could see his screen when he was, looking at the screen. And in the process of that collection in. Starting in 2018, they see his phone access a bank account in the uae, and that bank account is receiving hundreds of millions of dollars, from a bank in Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea. and the money sits in this bank account and then starts going out to, going out to others, not to him, not to Kushner. and they had this mystery. I mean, frankly, what the hell was this about? And was there a connection? Was this, you know, Russia, putting money in for Kushner seemed odd. but also the money wasn't going to Kushner. I mean, it was going into an account that he had access to, but he was. It wasn't as if the money was then moving on to one of his personal accounts. The. The tip and the question. The reason why it came to me at that time was because the first transfer in that account, which in the book I describe as the Alpha account, went to Erik Prince, the former Blackwater founder, and the second one went to Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan renegade commander in eastern Libya at the time, and then some others. And so, it seemed. It was a very strange story. It was a very strange tip, but there were elements of it that. That matched or were, you know, that they had something. It seemed connected to what I was already working on at the time is the better way of saying it. And so I couldn't quite let it go. And after several months of sort of failed efforts to find anyone or anything who had any idea about either the Dutch hacking, Jared's phone or a secret bank account in the uae, I did end up with a source, from another part of the world in a completely different, setup and scenario. And in other words, no connection to the first source who had given it to me and who, was able to independently verify and confirm bank transfers from that account. But more importantly, the first source who came in with it had no idea what it meant. And this source knew exactly what it meant and, in fact, had no knowledge about the Dutch hack. And so I had a good sense then, well, there's something here. You know, I don't know exactly what it is yet, but it is definitely something here. And so that is the, And, you know, the Dutch essentially looked. Maintained access on Jared's phone for about 18 months from late 2017, early 2018, until the end of 2019. They lost access to his phone in December of 2019. It's not clear, why they lost it. but it was. Was shut off. And so they had these screenshots and some of the tallies from the bank transfers essentially sitting in their vault. And, a source of mine had access to that vault. And so now there were questions. What does this mean? and so that. That kicks off. That just kicks off the way I got into the story and ended up writing the book.
Yeah. And it's interesting you bring up, how the way that they got this information is overshadowed by the corruption that we see from what comes of it. I remember I had discussed this a couple of days ago in your book and some of the stories with Andrew, McCabe, former deputy director of the FBI, in the first Trump term, was fired by Trump. he and I host a different podcast together. And when I brought up this. Oh, my gosh, the Dutch and the Russians hacked Kushner's phone and the da, da, da. And, Andrew McCabe was, he, you know, he responded, like, without saying too much. That's actually pretty normal. it happens a lot. Not normal, but, you know, it's a, very common.
Spying agencies spy.
That's what
they do. And they were concerned, the Dutch. First of all, the Dutch were concerned about Trump and his position in NATO and his relationship, relationship with Russia, number one. But number two, once they made the extraordinary decision to get into Kushner's phone, there's not a scenario in the world in which they were ever going to admit it. And so, you know, that's. I mean, you know, I've covered intelligence, spies, the COVID world for 25 years. There is nothing remotely, shocking, or surprising about how what I learned played out.
Right. and also, just as reference, to everyone watching and maybe people who were listening to the old Mueller She Wrote podcast, we covered this pretty extensively, as it pertained to the Marshall Plan, in the first couple of episodes, actually, when that podcast launched, and to sort of maybe give everybody a bit of a reminder or to kick the dust off of people's memories. Erik Prince was sent as a proxy for the Trump administration in 2016 to a meeting in the Seychelles to create a backchannel to Russia for communication. And so for Kushner to be able to lay eyes on what is going on, I mean, you know, you say in your book that that Alpha account was used to fund efforts to overthrow Libya's government. and so that, in effect, allowed Kushner to oversee that shadow foreign policy.
Well, yes, yes, but I want to make one nuanced distinction, because I covered this in the book, and I covered this at the time because Erik Prince is someone who, I've always understood as a reporter that if you followed Prince, you were going to figure out who his sugar, daddies were. And because he doesn't. He doesn't work, he doesn't pay for operations on his own. And so he travels around the world trying to get business, and when he's got business, it means someone's paying him to do it. And so I was sort of, like, following the threads, and when the reporting came out about his meeting in the Seychelles, there was something odd about, the scenario. And one of the things that the book. Book lays out that's new, is that the meeting in the Seychelles, yes, the UAE had, had invited him, and among the other things they wanted to do is to meet with, Kirill, Dmitriev. but the real purpose was that the meeting in the Seychelles was. Was mbz Mohammed bin Zayed, who's the ruler of the uae. That's his version of Camp David. Okay. He has a, massive, villa in the. That he owns at the Four Seasons in, the Seychelles. And he goes there with his war council with some of his brothers and his trusted aides who discuss, basically, strategy and wars. And they brought Prince in because Prince was trying to sell a mercenary army that they both hoped that Trump would back now that he was president. And so this. One of the things that, you know, I didn't get into this in a great deal in the book, but I do mention it a few times, is that while the Mueller investigation was focusing on Russia and what they did to, Tamper with the 2016 elections, the UAE had been doing similar things on a smaller scale in 2016 and continued to try to influence, illegally run influence and intelligence operations into the Trump White House. And so while everyone's attention was turned towards Russia and figuring out whether what they. Whether they had gotten in through the back door, the UAE sort of came right through the front in terms of, their intelligence operations. And so the Seychelles meeting with Prince is really about the way in which they're going to go send. UAE is going to pay for heir Princes or others, foreign, mercenaries to go fight wars in Syria and in Libya and in Yemen at the time. Right. And so that was the sort of buildup of what later would become a lot of what the Alpha, bank account was about and that foreign policy.
Right. And there were lots of other things too, with ties to Erik Prince. for example, I believe in the Middle East Marshall Plan, where they wanted to build nuclear reactors in Saudi Arabia, for example. One of the ideas was to have Erik Prince supply the mercenaries to guard those, in order to remake the Middle East. And in your book you mentioned that the war in Iran is sort of the inevitable conclusion of this vision and plan to remake the Middle east, first discussed, by Kushner and MBZ, right, back in December of 2016. Can you talk about that, how that all ties together with what we're seeing
now? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. In December of 2016, MBZ flies to the US he blows off a, a goodbye lunch with Obama, and he doesn't, tell him that he's coming. And he flies. Obama administration finds out when they see the flight manifest, registered from the uae, and he goes, instead of flying to Washington, he flies to New York and he rents out the top floor of the Manhattan, Four Seasons. And he brings, Jared Kushner in to, meet him. And the first thing that they start to talk about is what the Trump administration is vision for the Middle east is going to be. And this is where we see how people who have common goals sort of align. And for NBC, for Israel the time, and for MBS and the Saudis, they all had the same thing. They were very upset with Obama's nuclear deal with Iran. They were very upset with how, Obama had played the Arab Spring. Those were the two main prongs that NBZ in particular, but also mbs, they see as sort of, you know, existential threats to their, their rule, their countries. It's also important to note that when we're talking about a Gulf Arab autocrat, there is no distinction between the person and the country. They are the country. They make the decisions, you know, not quite unilaterally, but essentially, unilaterally. And what they were trying to do is preserve themselves, their dynasty and their power. And that vision aligned perfectly with Kushner and Trump, who saw Israel as needing a deal, with the Palestinians that would favor Israel, give them what they saw was guaranteed, ah, security, and the possibility somewhere down the line, maybe for a Palestinian state, but the US wasn't going to do it under American America first, policy, wasn't going to pay for it and they weren't going to send more troops there, yada, yada, yada. But in one of the, you know, one of the central ideas there was undoing and ripping up Obama's nuclear, policy, treaty with. With. With Iran. And so when they decide to move towards confronting Iran, to undoing the. The. The treaty, pulling out of the JCPOA and confronting Iran and ratcheting up the pressure, they sent the US On a collision course. That collision course is where we are today. They had a vision of remaking the Middle east, and that vision was shared by Netanyahu, by nbz, by mbs, and Kushner worked with them. That's where the bank accounts and the secret financial arrangements come in the shadow behind that of, their sort of secret diplomacy. And some of that was, you know, what was in the Alpha account, these mercenary operations and efforts to overthrow a government in Libya, for instance. Some of that was in the blockade between where the UAE and the Saudi. Saudi Arabia announced a blockade in 2017 against Qatar. And they wanted the. The two Arab, rulers wanted to overthrow a third. You know, Kushner found himself in a real life Game of Thrones. And what I've been saying about the book is, is that that story, the real life Game of Thrones version, has in it secret bank accounts. It's got sexual blackmail, it's got murder, and it's got mercenary, armies. And the punchline is that it's all true and it's real. And it may have been in the first administration, but it's a vision. What Kushner did when he embraced these guys was he embraced their vision of remaking the Middle east because it would have favored Israel. And that was important to that administration. and one of the things that they wanted was they wanted the Arab rulers to pay for investment and inducements to bring the Palestinians to the negotiating table. And so the setup is there, right, that you have Jared Kushner needs money. These guys have the money. And it's a question of how they can work together. Now, that was what we knew in the public. There was also the secret arrangement that flowed exactly the same way. Kushner came into the White House, his family had a $1.2 billion loan due on, the family's trophy real estate property, 666 Fifth Avenue. And by the time Kushner had worked through the diplomatic problem with the blockade, the Qataris had bailed him out, had bailed the family out by secretly buying the building, which is also in the book. So it's. I mean, it's kind of, there's a lot to Unpull. And there are. You know, the book is really the tip of the iceberg. I mean, I'm very proud of how much work and reporting. And, you know, it's built on more than 50 sources. I spent, you know, five years researching and reporting, and it was built on another five or seven years before that. But there are still a lot more questions that need to be answered.
agreed, 100%. I mean, I could talk to you for hours about the multitudes of things that are in this book, and I really encourage everyone,
have me on again, to
get your copy. I definitely will. But before I let you go, I want to just drill down a little bit more on the blockade. because way back, way back in 2018, I tweeted, this. I'm gonna put it up on the screen here. This is 2018. I said, how is Kush? That's Kushner. How is Kush gonna buy out his partner on 666 Fifth Avenue when he still owes 1.2 billion? He only got 500 million from Apollo and Citigroup. Where will he get the rest of the cash? Maybe the Crown Prince, he warned of defectors and threw up a cuttery blockade for can help. and so we were all, back then, sort of like, is this what's really going on? And that is why when I, you know, when I'm reading your book, I'm like, oh, it's like it hits you. It smacks you in the face. Well,
right. And I'm glad you asked, because that's one thing that, you know. And the Vanity Fair excerpt I understand. But that chapter doesn't describe the. The aftermath of the secret financial arrangements between the Saudi, ruler, the Emirati ruler, and Kushner, which is that, during the blockade. So the bank accounts, the money into what I call the alpha account and beta account starts to flow at the time. Around the time. At the same time as that blockade is announced and started against Qatar. And what happens is that. And this is reported, in the book, over several months, the Qataris go to the. The White House and say, what can we do to find a resolution to this blockade? How do we find a way out of this? And the response that they got from the administration, from the White House, was essentially, hey, the Kushner family has this building that needs help. And the Qataris kept saying no. And, in fact, they had already rejected, Charlie Kushner's offer twice to buy the building, both before Trump went into office and then after he was in office, but before the blockade began. And so several times they got the message that the only way that they were going to resolve their diplomatic, problem was by making, a deal for the building. And then in March of, 2018, Secretary Tillerson was fired. Tillerson had been the main proponent inside the Trump administration defending the Qataris and essentially preventing the Emiratis and the Saudis from a military invasion in Qatar in the summer of, of 2017. When he got fired, the Qatari royal family panicked because the message that they took from that was, we may be next. And so they decided to signal back to the White House that they were going to figure out a way to take away by 666. And so what I report in the book is they worked secretly for several months to figure out how to do it with plausible deniability. And ultimately they did. By the time they had signaled that they were buying the building and were in the process of arranging it, Trump shifted, publicly shifted his position on the blockade and his position on Qatar. And so there's sort of no way to see the sequence of events that are reported in the book and not see a scenario in which Kushner was using U.S. policy to benefit himself, either directly or indirectly, financially. And I think that is, you know, if nothing else comes out of what someone might want to read or get, understand or look at or realize is significant and important, that alone is, to me, sort of the one thing you should take away is the potential manipulation of US Policy for personal benefit in some capacity. it has to be looked at further.
I agree, and I'm hoping we might see that in the next Congress. Thank you so much, everybody, the book is out now. It's called Princes and Jared Kushner and Mohammed Bin Zayed's Secret Plot to Remake the Middle East. As you know, I send everyone to bookshop.org buy 10 copies, give them out as holiday presents, put them in your little free, libraries around town. is there any, final thing, that you want to say about this book that, we may have left out?
I mean, I think that the, the, this book, you know, is a, important. I believe it's an important addition to what was. You know, we live in a world in which information, we're all drinking from a fire hose of information. And it can be really hard to keep all of the. And especially now we're so immune essentially to all of the scandal on a day to day basis. you know, my colleagues in the media do an Incredible job on a day to day basis covering everything that's going on. And, at some point I realized that what I was better at was following threads that I thought were important and were interesting. And so, you know, one thing I want people to understand is that this book comes from, as I said, more than 50 sources. my publisher, Simon and Schuster, and I went through a very, thorough, and at times uncomfortable fact check and legal vetting to make, sure that everything that I have, I can stand up and I stand behind. And the reality is, is that it's essentially 12 years worth of reporting laid out, because it was a, it's a big world that, that was going on. And so, you know, it's, it's more than just one story. It's sort of like the, the whole is, is greater than the sum of its parts is really what I'd like to say. And so I encourage people to read it. And as I say, Kushner denies everything in the book. but I encourage readers to read it and decide for themselves which version of events they find more credible.
Matthew Cole, I appreciate your time today.
Thank you, Alison.

All right. Up from French teacher. Resistance, no pronouns given. I Beans Queens. Great news to report from Westchester, Pennsylvania. Red wine and blues Sponsored. A talk with Heather Cox Richardson that would have been amazing, by the way, on the Westchester University campus. And it was packed. Great energy to get out the vote and be educated by a such a thoughtful and wicked smart historian. Every vote counts to get out there and do your civic D. I'll be thanking people for voting with Project Halo, a nonpartisan group that makes people feel welcome at the polls and show voter appreciation. Look at this line. That's incredible.

indeed.
All right. From Ann Pronoun. She and her I G A D G. Congratulations on the signal wins. Thank you. It's well deserved. I hope DG is feeling better.
Thank you and
continued gratitude for you, your team and this community. It is a source of hope. A good trouble suggestion. I'm an election poll worker and manage a precinct on November 3rd. In addition to the board of election employees, there are a significant number of volunteers across this nation that step up each election to staff local precincts and provide their valuable time to ensure our neighbors can vote. It really makes me angry that we have elected officials, people we have facilitated in being elected, who are claiming election fraud when so many Americans volunteer each election cycle to assist their board of elections. Please call your representatives and tell them you're a poll worker volunteer and do not appreciate the talk of election fraud. Thank you, Ann and thank you for your service. Look at the baby pig.
No,
it's a pig. And then we have a tombstone with a red tie draped over it. I don't know what that means, but the tiny
hands
coming out of the ground. Look.
Oh, my gosh. I love this tiny hands. All right. All right. Except for my man, a pronoun. She and her hello beans queens and crew wanted to share our Halloween costumes. My fantastic husband is Hades and I was the pink Power Ranger. I rehomed many Beanie Babies and was even able to match a few to the costumes. We all give out ramen along with candy, which is always a hit and makes so much excitement. I dreamed of being the house on Halloween. That cute little pinkish blackish nose. That's adorable.
I need to snuggle this dog.
He's just a three year old boy in a dog costume.
Love

All right, next up, dear Beans Babes, belated shout out to Dana for a fabulous show in Albuquerque. Anonymous. Thank you. My son and I traveled down from the Pacific Northwest to attend the funny fest in the balloon fiesta. Even though I was one of the few straight allies and he was one of the few gay men in the audience, the crowd was warm and welcoming and the show was ruckusly hilarious. Anonymous Again, thank you. Thank you for all that both of you do to keep us all sane and engaged. You make the madness bearable. Our pod pet taxes are Carl Goss, left, and Franny, our rescue kitties. Fingers crossed for a blue tsunami next week. P.S. i'm also impressed to receive a handwritten thank you note from Equality New Mexico. I make a lot of donations, and while I often get a thank you, that is tax receipt, I don't remember ever getting a handwritten note from an organization. Very impressive, Anonymous. I will let them know. This is awesome. PPS I've never attended a show with so many women. I hate waiting in a long line for the bathroom, so I often zip into the men's. I didn't even have to avert my eyes to avoid anyone at the urinal. And best of all, several women followed me, some laughing nervously. I think I changed some hearts and minds there. Lol. Oh, there's this picture of me on stage. Which means you must have been in the mezzanine or the balcony. Great shot.
That is a great shot of you. Look at that that's incredible.
Oh, man. And
then look at the two cute kitties. Hello, babies.
Hello, babies.
Babies. Thank you, Anonymous. Wow. Came down from the Pacific Northwest. Incredible. Yeah. I gotta say, nothing but big props to equality New Mexico as an organization. The people. It's just such an amazing place. Really.
Yeah, it really is.
All right, next up. Oh, my God. I
can't. I know
from Pamela pronouns, she and her. Your podcast and it's unapologetic humanity gives me hope for the future. I'm a 78 year old grandma who was sick during the last no Kings protest and didn't get to share my sign, which I thought was very clever. Once I thought of the idea, I couldn't stop laughing and I was committed to making it happen. I hope you enjoy. says DJT in cat turds in sand in the litter box.
Yes, it does.
And the caption on the back reads, time to clean the litter box. Thank you for helping me stay human and hopeful. Thank you, Pamela.
Well, my
goodness, this is the last day before the final day. This is the
penultimate day of
the midterm elections and I am like, buzzing with excitement and nervousness. We, we dressed up this weekend, my friends and I, in New Orleans, as the. The Emotions from In N Out too.
Oh, my God, that's amazing.
And so I was anxiety and I took a picture with my friend Corey, who's a nurse at the Department of Veterans Affairs. That's where I met her many, many years ago. And she was joy. And I'm like, this sums it up. Joy and anxiety. That is exactly what I'm feeling right
now heading into
the selection.
I'm feeling hope and anxiety. I'm not going to lie.
Yeah, for sure. So everyone, I, probably everyone listening has already voted. If you haven't because you wanted to save. You know, some people like to go vote on election day. Like it's a big party, make sure you get there early. If they something's funky, you can get a provisional ballot. Don't forget there's a hotline you can call if something's weird with your vote. So, you know, just make sure that you're. That you get it done. Maybe if there's check. Go around your neighborhood, see if somebody needs a ride to the polls.
ask if they voted,
ask your neighbors if they voted and say you give them a ride. If, you're able to. That would be amazing.
All
right, everybody, we will see you tomorrow. Thanks to Matthew Cole for coming in and speaking with us about princes and thieves. And we'll see you over on Beans Talk. We're going to do a deep dive in that Haley Stevens shit. So we'll see you there. And until tomorrow, but do you have any final thoughts? I forgot to ask.
No, I think we covered it, my friend. I
think we covered it. Cool. All right, everybody, until tomorrow, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health, take care. Take care of yourself, of your framily. Don't vote red
or, we'll all be dead.
I vote down ballot all the way. Two days left. Oh, my goodness. I've been ag.
I've been dg.
And them's the beans.
