Hello and welcome to the Daily Beans for Friday, October 25, 2024. Today, Trump says he would fire Jack Smith in under two minutes if he wins the election. Mike Flynn admits under oath that there was no fraud with the Dominion voting machines. Arizona ballots have been damaged after a mailbox was set on fire in a Democrat leaning county. At least a dozen mail in ballots were intercepted and cast in Mesa County, Colorado. Beyonce is set to perform tonight with Kamala Harris at a rally in Houston. The Department of justice has announced four criminal cases against people threatening election workers. A top election official in Nevada says she was forced out of her job. And an Ohio judge has Strzock down the state's abortion ban, citing the voter approved abortion amendment. I'm Allison Gill.
And I'm m Dana Goldberg.
Hey, happy Friday, my friend.
Happy Friday to you. How are you?
Thank you. I'm good. I'm a little tired. I think we all are.
I'm so fucking tired.
I think we all are. Just tired. Um, but the good news is it's fugal sang Friday, so Fiegel sang. Will be here with me later, uh, on, um, the Daily Beans, the penultimate Fugelsang Friday before the election. Yes. And a bunch more republicans are coming forward to back Kamala Harris after, probably after, you know, John Kelly decided to go on the record again and, uh, say that, um, Trump is a fascist. So we have Sean Riley, he's the Waukesha, Wisconsin mayor, staunch Republican. He said he's voting for Harris. Same with former GOP Michigan Rep. Fred Upton. He was there on January 6, 2021. And Wisconsin Republican state Senator Rob Cowles, or Coles. I'm not sure how you pronounce it, but dude has been a Republican for decades. Three decades, I think. He's never voted for a Democrat ever. And he's going to vote for Kamala Harris. So good news.
Fantastic.
Yeah, I was pretty sure Fred Epton was going to vote for Harris, but it's good to know that he's publicly saying it.
Absolutely. I just. And everyone can stop holding their breath on George W. He's not going to. He has never endorsed since he was the president. I doubt he's going to come out in this one. Um, so just, you know, I'm not sure he even knows who president is right now, to be honest with you.
He's joking on a pretzel somewhere. Hope he's all right. Um, yeah, I mean, whatever. He was a terrible president and I don't expect much from that man, so. All right, we have so much news to get to today and of course, Fugelsang Fridays. And of course, the good news. But first, we have some quick hits.
And to make a long story short, too late.
First up, from our friend Hugo Lowell, Donald Trump said Thursday he would order the immediate firing of the special counsel Smith if he were reelected in the November election in the clearest expression of his intent to shut down the two criminal cases brought against him. The remarks from Trump, who, uh, remains in a tight race for the presidency, against Kamala Harris. Just twelve days until the election. Eleven, as you're listening to this, came in a conversation, these remarks, with a conservative podcast host named Hugh Hewitt, who asked whether Trump would pardon himself or fire the special counsel. And if Judge Aileen Cannon is made attorney general, I imagine she'll base the firing on her reasoning for dismissing the documents case. Andy and I'll discuss that on this weekend's Jack podcast.
Thanks AG. And Arizona law enforcement, uh, officials, they have, they're conducting an arson investigation after election ballots were damaged when a USP's mail collection box was burned in Maricopa county. And that's a democratic stronghold. And this is a quote, approximately 20 electoral ballots were damaged along with additional miscellaneous mail. This is from the Phoenix fire department. Their official statement, according to ABC 15. And here's a quote from the story. We are waiting for details from law enforcement. That's Maricopa county recorder Stephen Richer. And thank God. And is he still in his job? Because even though he's a Republican, he's doing it well to protect democracy. He went on to say, we encourage all voters who use that mailbox in the last 36 hours to check the status of their ballots at, uh, and there's a website which would be b, ballot ready, vote. Be ballot ready, vote. So if you're listening to this and you happen to be in Maricopa and you know you dropped your ballot in that box, any of the mailboxes, um, just check and make sure that it's still, they're encountered.
Yes, always check to make sure your ballot's been counted. And, uh, my understanding is, at least from the ones that they could still read, I think they might reach out to these folks to cure. But again, uh, if they're burned beyond recognition, they won't be able to. So head to be ballot ready, vote to check it out. All right. At least a dozen mailed ballots were intercepted and cast on western slope before voters received them. That's according to the Colorado secretary of state's office. Three of those ballots were cast and counted before the county clerk was able to pull them from the final tally. Colorado's Department of State learned about the intercepted ballots on Tuesday. Quote, these ballots were filled out, the return envelopes were signed. They were then returned to a USP's blue box. So that's a postal box, not a ballot Dropbox. That's secretary of State Jenna Griswold in a news conference on Thursday afternoon. Quote, the issue was discovered during the signature verification process, proving it works. Uh, and $100 says these were Trump voters. A criminal investigation has been opened. We don't know who these ballots were cast for. So these people stole these ballots out of the mail so the people didn't get them and then filled them out and then tried to vote using those ballots and, like, falsified signatures, and they caught them in the signature verification process.
Thank goodness. All, uh, right, last in this section and we'll see about this one. But it seems to be real this time. This is Beyonce. Beyonce is supposed to appear with Vice President President Kamala Harris at her event in Houston on Friday. That's tonight, this evening. According to three sources familiar with the plans. Beyonce's also expected to perform, according to one of the sources who has direct knowledge of the preparations. The Washington Post first reported the news of Beyonce's appearance. The pop star is from Houston, so this makes a whole lot of sense. And her appearance comes as the vice president has welcomed other musicians like Bruce Springsteen and Eminem to the campaign trail in usually the cities that they are from. So this makes a whole lot of sense, and I'm glad the timing is now. The DNC was not the right place. That was Kamala Harris's night. And, um, yeah, it's gonna be a party in Houston. So if you're at this rally and you happen to be going and, um, write in on Sunday, let us know so we can air it on Monday. And the good news, like, what was it like to be there? If you happen to be in this.
Houston rally, I can't imagine it's gonna be such a huge party. I wish I was able to go. All right, we have more news to get to, so let's hit the hot notes, hot notes. All right, first up, from the new Republic, Mike Flynn admitted in a court deposition earlier this year that one of the biggest election fraud claims pushed by Donald Trump and his supporters had no evidence to back it up. CNN reported that the QAnon devotee and former Trump national security adviser acknowledged under oath in April that he had seen no credible proof to suggest that an executive at Dominion voting Systems fixed the 2020 election results using the company's voting machines. This allegation was repeated and pushed by several far right supporters of Trump in an attempt to claim the election was stolen. The deposition was part of a lawsuit filed by former Dominion executive Eric Coomer against Flynn's speaking tour reawaken America, which has been promoting far right conspiracies, including election denial, since 2021. Quote, have you seen any evidence that you would consider credible, Mister Flynn, that Eric Coomer played a role in rigging the 2020 presidential election? That's what Coomer's attorneys asked Flynn during the deposition. I have not know, Flynn said. I don't really know. Flynn was asked further about Dominion's involvement in election fraud, and he claimed to have seen a lot of evidence and read a lot of reports, but couldn't confirm that so called evidence was credible. Quote, credibility is in the eye of the legal system to determine, Flynn told lawyers. Okay, yeah, they did, bro. Ask Fox how that turned out. Despite this admission, Flynn still insisted to news Nation in Mayenne that the 2020 election was filled with fraud and clear evidence had he had to prove it, but didn't provide any details. In September, he spoke to Alex Jones about a marxist plot to steal the election from Trump and nearly two weeks ago told the audience at a christian nationalist festival, sounds like a fun party that Trump will unleash the gates of hell if he wins the election. Flynn, who was forced to resign as Trump's national security adviser after only four weeks on the job and pled guilty to lying to the FBI twice about conversations with russian officials, was pardoned by Trump in the final months of his presidency. After that, he became a QAnon conspiracy evangelist and leading election denialist. His admission under oath suggests that he peddled the election live for his own benefit and possibly to cozy up to Trump if he returns to the White House.
Thanks so much, ag. This one is from Christina Cassidy at the Associated Press. The top election official in one of the nation's most politically important counties said Wednesday she was forced out of her role just weeks before the November presidential election, disputing an official statement that she asked for leave after experiencing, quote, stress issues. The abrupt departure of Carrie Ann Burgess as the interim registrar of voters in northern Nevada's wasow. Help me out. Washoe.
Washoe, maybe, or washoe Washoe county.
Someone go ahead and write in a correction in Nevada. Um, actually, did I even say Nevada right just now? Don't even give me an edit. That was right, right?
I think it was right.
Okay, good.
You got it.
All right. Nevada, one month ago is the latest sign of turmoil in a county that has been roiled for four years by people pushing election and conspiracy theories. Washoe, uh, which includes Reno, is a swing county in a state where this year's presidential contest is expected to be a narrowly decided one. Burgess told the Associated Press in an interview that she had refused personnel changes sought by the county manager's office and had offered step down and return to her prior position as deputy. She said she was told that was not possible. In a meeting with county staff, including representatives of the district attorney's office, Burgess said she was forced to put a request in for leave in, uh, writing, despite her desire to stay. Quote, I feel like I was absolutely forced out, but I have no idea how we got to this point. This is what Burgess said in her first public remarks since her departure. Because the previous Friday and Monday, before I was put on leave, I was having high praises. They were like, quote, you're doing a great job. You've got this. You're the best person for this job because you brought this team together. And then all of a sudden, I was out on, um, leave. Burgess says she has hired a lawyer, of course, and is considering her legal options. In September 27 statement, Washoe county spokeswoman Bethany Drysdale said Burgess, quote, had experienced stress issues and requested medical leave. Washoe County Manager Eric Brown told commissioners during an October 8 meeting that Burgess was on leave and that she had not been fired and had not quit. George Guthrie, a spokesman for the county election office, on Wednesday reiterated the county's previous statement that Burgess had requested a leave and that the county was committed to, quote, running a smooth and fair election. At right now, Nevada is one of seven presidential battleground states that Vice President Kamala Harris and, as we know, Donald Trump are hotly contested ahead of November 5. Washoe is the state's second most populous county and is considered a bellwether because its elections are often narrowly decided and its votes can tip statewide elections. Clark county, which includes Las Vegas, has voted solidly democratic in the past two presidential elections. A, uh, deputy filling in for Burgess is now the fifth person in four years to oversee elections in the politically mixed county. The staff has turned over entirely since 20 twenty's presidential election, and across the country, conspiracy theories and lies about the 2020 presidential election. They've created a very difficult working environment for local election officials who have faced harassment and even death threats. That's prompted election officials nationwide to prepare for what could be a tumultuous election. We already know it's going to be providing panic buttons for polling place supervisors and installing bulletproof glass at their offices. Jesus. She tried to return after being placed on leave, obtaining, um, a doctor's note indicating she was fine to work. But county officials refused and told her the situation would be taken up after the presidential election. She said she had been forced to use her sick pay and vacation time and was told not to contact her staff or speak with reporters. Quote, I wanted to stay and help the team. This is what Burgess said. She said they have done so much and have done such amazing things in the last year that, yeah, I wanted to be a part of it and I wanted to help them, and they told me, no, this looks super nefarious and obviously very intentional, and so I hope that there's all eyes on this county.
Yeah, me too. Thanks for that. Um, next up, by the way, this is from the Department of Justice's website. I lifted it directly from their website. The Justice Department's election threats task force, the ETTF, announced developments this week in four cases involving interstate transmissions of threats to election personnel and other victims. Teak Brockbank, 45, of Cortez, Colorado, pled guilty today to threatening a Colorado election official and making other threats to an Arizona election official, a Colorado state judge and federal law enforcement agents between September 2021 and July 2024. Brian Jerry Ogstad, 60, of Coleman, Alabama, was sentenced on Monday to 30 months in prison for sending messages threatening violence to election workers with Maricopa county elections in Phoenix from August 2 through the fourth, 2022, during and immediately following the Arizona primary elections. Richard Glenn Cantwell, 61, of Tampa, Florida, was charged on Monday for allegedly sending a threat on February 9 to an election official, in addition to already pending charges for threats made to three other victims based on their political commentary in 2019 and 2020. And John Pollard, 62, of Philadelphia was charged on Monday for allegedly threatening on September 6 to kill a representative of Pennsylvania state political party who was recruiting official poll watchers. Quote, as we approach election day, the Justice Department's warning remains clear. Anyone who illegally threatens an election worker, official or volunteer will face consequences. That's Merrick Garland. He said. Over the past three and a half years, the Justice Department has been aggressively investigating and prosecuting those who threaten the public servants who administer our elections, and we will continue to do so in the weeks ahead. For our democracy to function, americans who serve the public must be able to do their jobs without fearing for their lives. Threats to election workers are threats to our democratic process. That's Lisa Monaco. No one should face violence or threats of violence simply for doing their job. The actions announced today make clear we will not tolerate those who use or threaten violence in an effort to undermine our democratic institutions. To carry out their essential work, election officials must be free from improper influence, physical threats, and other forms of intimidation. New quote here our elections are made possible by the hard work and patriotism of our election workers in communities across the country who are also our neighbors, relatives, and friends, and they deserve to do this important work without being subjected to threats. That's FBI director Chris Wray, and he went on to say, the fact that election workers need to be worried about their security is incomprehensible and unacceptable. While these four cases are examples of the kinds of threats election workers are unfortunately facing, these cases also represent the FBI's dedication and holding accountable those who undermine our, uh, democracy. With this conduct, the FBI and our partners on the ETTF will work tirelessly to charge and arrest those callous enough to make these threats and make sure they are held accountable. Free, fair, and safe elections are critical to our country and our democratic ideals. Another quote these defendants made serious threats of violence against members of our election community. Threats like these strike at the very heart of our democracy. That's principal deputy assistant attorney General Nicole argentary. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly. Head of Justice Department's criminal division. She goes on to say the cases announced today underscore the criminal division's commitment to defending democracy, safeguarding our elections, and protecting all election workers. Through the ETTF, the department will vigorously investigate and prosecute all criminal threats against members of the election community. The four cases were all brought by the ETTF, created by Attorney General Merrick Garland, and launched by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco in June of 2021. The task force has led the department's efforts to address threats of violence against election workers and to ensure that all election workers, whether elected, appointed, or volunteer, are able to do their jobs free from threats of intimidation. The task force engages with the election community and state and local law enforcement to assess allegations and reports of threats against election workers and has investigated and prosecuted these matters where appropriate. In partnership with the FBI field offices and us attorneys offices throughout the country. Three years after its formation, the task force is continuing this work and supporting the us attorney's offices and FBI field offices nationwide as they join the task force in its critical work.
Thanks so much, Allison, and excellent news out of Ohio from the Associated Press. The most far reaching of Ohio's laws restricting abortion was Strzock down on Thursday by a county judge who said last year's voter approved amendment enshrines reproductive rights. It renders the so called heartbeat law unconstitutional. Voting matters everyone enforcement of a 2019 law banning most abortions once cardiac activity is detected as early as six weeks into pregnancy, before many women even know that they're pregnant. It had been paused pending the challenge before Hamilton county common pleas Judge Christian Jenkins. Now, Jenkins said that when the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and returned power over to the abortion to the states, Ohio's attorney general evidently didn't get the memo. Yep, the judge said. Republican Attorney General Dave Yost's request to leave all but one provision in the law untouched, even after a majority of Ohio's voters passed an amendment protecting the right to pre viability abortion, dispels the myth that the high court's decision simply gives states power over the issue. And I quote, despite the adoption of a broad and strongly worded constitutional amendment in this case and others, the state of Ohio seeks not to uphold the constitutional protection of abortion rights, but to diminish and limit it. That's what he wrote, Jenkins said in his ruling. Honors voters wishes. The ACLU of Ohio sued on behalf of a group of abortion providers in the state. The second round, by the way of litigation, filed to challenge that law. And this is a quote, this is a momentous ruling showing the power of Ohio's new reproductive freedom amendment in practice. This is Jesse Hill, cooperating attorney for the ACLU of Ohio. That's what was said in a statement. And Jesse went on to say the six week ban is blatantly unconstitutional, has no place in our law. An initial lawsuit was brought in federal court in 2019, where the law was first blocked under the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. It was briefly allowed to go into effect in 2022 after Roe was overturned. Opponents of the law then turned to state court system, where the ban was again put on hold. They argued the law violated protections in Ohio's constitution that guarantee individual liberty and equal protection, and that it was unconstitutionally vague after his predecessor twice vetoed the measure, citing Roe. Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the 2019 law once appointments by then President Donald Trump had solidified the Supreme Court's conservative majority and raised hopes among abortion opponents. The Ohio legislation has unfolded alongside a national upheaval over abortion rights that followed the dobbs decision that overturned Roe, including constitutional amendments, pushes in Ohio and a host of other states. Issue one. That was the amendment Ohio voters passed last year. It gives every person in Ohio, quote, the right to make and carry out one's own reproductive decisions. Period, full stop. Yost acknowledged in court filings this spring that the amendment rendered the Ohio ban unconstitutional, but sought to maintain other elements of the 2019 law, including certain notification and reporting provisions. All kinds of fuckery tried to happen there. Frank Rose, who's the one who wrote the language around the anti gerrymandering bill that hopefully, I mean, amendment, uh, ballot measure that everyone should be voting yes on, not no on. He's the same guy that tried to make the passing of this amendment much more difficult, and they said, absolutely not, stop your fuckery. And the people voted to enshrine abortion access in Ohio.
Mm hmm. So the whole law has been Strzock down now. So even these restricted, you know, uh, reporting restrictions and all that other stuff, gone. And that's, uh, what this judge said. I'm sure it'll be appealed, but, um, the voices of the voters have been heard, so. Absolutely wonderful. Your vote matters. It, you know, they tried. You're right, Larose, he tried to up the requirement to get a 60% vote right in a special august election and failed. The voters saw right through it. I have a feeling they'll see right through his language trying to ban political gerrymandering, uh, in the state. So, yes, vote yes on that issue, even though it's worded improperly, thanks to Larose. Um, vote yes on that issue because that will stop political gerrymandering. All right, everybody, we have to talk to John Fugelsang, and then we have to get to the good news. But we have to take a quick break first. So everybody stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
We'll be right back.
Hey, everybody. For years, I struggled to get a good night's sleep. Between tossing and turning or waking up. Throughout the night, restful sleep always felt out of reach. My energy and focus during the day took a big hit. It suffered because of it. But after trying a new approach, I've noticed a huge improvement. Now I wake up refreshed and energized and ready to take on whatever my day throws at me. That's why I'm excited to talk about beam's dream powder. It's a science backed, healthy hot cocoa for sleep. Other sleep aids can cause next day grogginess, but beam dream contains powerful, all natural blends of reishi, magnesium, l theanine, epigenin, and melatonin to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up refreshed. Incorporating it into my nightly routine is a breeze. It's delicious. I mix it with, uh, I prefer milk, but you can mix it with hot water to froth it up and enjoy a delicious, guilt free treat with flavors like vanilla, chai and brownie batter. It's hard to believe each serving has just 15 calories and zero sugar. Plus, it's specially designed to support all stages of sleep, helping me fall asleep faster and staying asleep, enjoying a deeper, more restful night. Lack of sleep was really starting to wear me down. It wasn't just about feeling tired. My brain felt foggy. No amount of coffee would help. My energy was low. Focusing on anything was really tough. But since the adding dream to my routine, things have really turned around. My favorite flavor right now, cinnamon cocoa. It's like a warm, comforting treat, like a hug from the inside. It's delicious. Now I'm falling asleep quicker, waking up refreshed, feeling much more focused and energized throughout the day. It's a lifesaver. Hello, Allison. Is it over? Is it, is it almost over? Please, please, can it be done?
Are we there yet?
We are about ten days away from Donald Trump prematurely declaring victory on election night before the votes are counted. That's the only thing I'm sure about, that we're ten days away and that he's going to try to queer it up that way in, um, the moment he's going to. He's going to declare victory. They've pretty much told us how they're going to try to steal it.
Mhm. Yeah, I did it last time. It was a whole plan, so I imagine it'll be the same this time. And what is going to be really interesting is that now that we have the electoral count act reform bill in place that was voted on in 2022 and signed by President Biden, uh, and it requires a third of Congress to object to electoral votes. Not one single, uh, House member and one single senator for each state. It's going to be interesting when we see all of the emails written back and forth about Donald Trump trying to coordinate, uh, the third of House Republicans. He needs to object to these votes.
Great. That's right. Oh, my God. I just can't wait for Vice President Harris to seat whatever false electors that help, uh, her the most, because that's our system and that's apparently acceptable now.
Yeah. And if she has any discussions with Joe Biden about it, those are official acts. Uh, that's right.
My God. I just hope, uh, Donald Trump can get a lawyer as good as Rudy Giuliani to help him through this next election struggle. If he can get someone that good, I'll feel good at night.
Uh, well, let's talk about Rudy, because, uh, as everyone has heard by now, he's had to hand over a bunch of his property except for one condo in Florida. And I think some Yankees, uh, championship World Series rings, uh, because that's being litigated from Andrew Giuliani. And there, there's a little bit of a separate litigation on the Florida place, but the New York property and his Lauren Bacall Mercedes Benz and all of his watches and everything of value has to go into a receivership for immediate at sale by Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss, because they're trying to collect and they won't get near, but they're trying to collect on at least part of that $148 million he owes for defaming them consistently about the 2020 election.
I mean, I would be happy with just framed pictures of him being disbarred in New York and DC. That's all the reparations I would need for this, but I hope they get every penny of it and it's amazing that he filed for bankruptcy days after he was ordered to pay those ladies that he relentlessly lied about in the most sinister and racist of terms. And then a judge dismissed the bankruptcy last summer. You're very attractive. Listeners will recall. Um, and so they can sell off all of his stuff. And I think at a time when so many decent people are horrified about the future and we need good news, here it is. He tried to ruin their lives. He kept lying about it. They deserve everything they get. When will Rudy's boss be given to the same treatment? Because let's never forget, he's disbarred for pushing the same lies that got Ashley Babbitt dead. The same lies that got Donald Trump invited, indicted by the feds. The same lies that our media doesn't seem to think is important enough to ask Donald Trump about. So, again, it's like, it's the same people against this fervor, religious zealotry, brown shirt mob. And, um, it's going to be a really interesting four years either way it goes. I still think she's going to win a. But, um, boy, people are. Our friends are starting to freak out about this now, and we got to be strong. And if Donald Trump, God forbid, wins this thing, it's going to be our job to be strong for other people, because it's going to break a lot of hearts. And a lot of folks aren't going to be ready to think that white America is really this shitty. Um, but I have a theory about this. Uh, Miss Gill, can I share you my theory, please? All my listeners are calling up every night saying, how is it this close?
How.
How can this many voters not accept reality? How can this many voters not care about the rule of law? I mean, and the corporate media. Why isn't Harris running away with this? He is so tired of this. But after the lies about Haitians eating the dogs and the cats, and, I mean, the fraud and the sexual abuse, and JD Vance saying childless women don't deserve to have a vote, and why would these people still support that? And I have a theory about it.
He's out on bail. He's out on bailhead.
Well, Donald Trump is the big dick conservative white America wants to wag in your face here. Hear, hear me out on this. Conservative white american males used to own this republic, right? And they don't like others being given any control of it. And these are the guys who fought to keep slaves, fought to keep segregation, fought to make it harder for women and non white folks to vote. They fought to crush the era. And LGBTQ rights fought against workers rights because the bosses told them unions were bad. Fought against women, deciding what can happen to their own bodies. And they keep losing. I mean, they kind of won with Roe v. Wade, but no, they're on the wrong side of history. They keep losing. And now, Alison, 21st century women have power in the government and the workplace. Gay people can live out in the open, marry who they want. African american voter turnout is, uh, high and loyal to the party they hate. And after a while, this takes a toll on, uh, a guy's sense of manhood. When you're the guy who's the bad guy on the every civil rights challenge, when progress moves forward without you, a guy can feel insecure, Miss Gill. A guy might need to compensate. Donald Trump comes along and tells these guys, hey, I'm a big, giant dick. How would you like me to be your big, swinging dick? And you can wag me in the faces of people you hate. And that's what he is. This dwindling conservative white majority has this big spray tan dick. They wag in the face of progress, history, and decency. They know how bad he is, but they like that their big, scary dick shocks and offends you. Milk toast little human rights dilettantes. Trump told this dwindling block of conservative white America he'd be the dick they wag. And that's the whole appeal. He's the dick conservative of white America. Wags in your face when they should be getting a blood test. That's it. It's fragile white male insecurity. And they found their avatar, and the rest of us have to deal with their lack of testosterone.
Yeah, no, I think that's a pretty, uh, spot on theory, my friend.
Thank you. The Donald Trump dildo theory. I'm submitting, uh, to the un very soon.
Yeah, charismatic mega plastics. But the thing is. Ok, so here's my quandary. We keep hearing, um, the right wing russian, uh, backed, right wing pundits, the brocasters, and Donald Trump himself, JD Vance, saying that it's Democrats rhetoric that has caused people to want to try to assassinate former, uh, President Donald Trump.
Right?
But it's Donald Trump himself who says he wishes his generals were more like Hitler's generals. And to me, that's more of a call to go after him than anything the Democrats are doing. But, ah, perhaps Donald Trump doesn't know his history.
Well, he clearly doesn't. I mean, I wish Donald Trump's generals were more like Hitler's generals, if you know what I'm saying. Um, and again, a real responsible media culture would start asking Donald Trump at every appearance, what were the orders that Hitler's generals were right to follow? What were the orders that Hitler gave his generals that make you admire how well they followed him? Um, he doesn't know that Hitler's generals tried to kill Hitler three times because he is stupid. Um, but I am all here for these comparisons to Hitler. I mean, it's not the first time John Kelly has done this. John Kelly said this three years ago in July of 2021, and all the right wing trolls are giving the same line. Oh, so Trump said this, but you never thought to say it before, and now, right before an election, you come out, no, no, no, he said it in 2021. You right wing guys consume news media that never told you. He said it the first time. So for most of us, we've already heard this. John Kelly, if he's as much of a patriot as he claims, has to give a press conference on camera right now and take questions about it. And I mean, tonight, like yesterday, Mattis.
Millie, and we know when asked, why are you coming and do these interviews on the record with Mike Schmidt or the New York Times and CNN, et cetera? John Kelly said, I wanted. I had to sound the alarm after Donald Trump said that the enemy is within. It's the enemy from within, and I'm going to send the National Guard or even the military, uh, after the enemy from within. And it was that particular answer in an interview recently that prompted John Kelly to go back on the record, where he's been silent for the last three years. So that that was, uh, I guess the straw that broke the general's back. Um, now, the. I'm with you. These guys are retired. They should do a press conference. They should be. Get them all on the view. You know, whatever it.
Donald Trump. Donald Trump, um, claimed that he fired Mattis and Millie. And that's both lies. And the media just lets him say this. Like, he said, he fired them both. Milley was still serving in the Biden administration, and Mattis resigned in protest over Donald Trump's incompetence. But he can come out and say, oh, uh, they're woke, and I fired them. And this is allowed to drift. I mean, this is why so many Americans were uninformed.
And you want to demand that the mainstream media get him in front. Every time you get him in front of you, ask him. He doesn't go in front of people who will ask him those questions.
Never.
He has copped out of 60 minutes. He's copped out of CNBC. He didn't do the debate that ended up turning into a town hall last night. He will not go in front of. I mean, the, uh, the only times he has, he's been completely taken to task, like on the univision. That's right, town hall. And it wasn't the media, it was the members of the audience that held him to account. And so he's not going to put himself in front of any reporter that would ask him anything resembling a question about what were the orders that Hitler's generals gave that agree with. Um. And so, I mean, it's, you know, we call it a failure. We can call it a failure of the media. The failure is that he's not going to go in front of the media. The media might not be able to do anything about that, but they can certainly talk about that nonstop, 24/7 like they did after Joe Biden's debate performance in June.
Thank you.
Uh, until he was. Until he was, uh, forced out of the race. So I think the failure of the media is to nothing. Keep asking for him to get in front of them in the first place.
And let me also mention that the media can ask this to every single Republican who comes on their shows. Okay, look, I'm thrilled that they're talking about Hitler again. I don't think Trump's like Hitler, because a. Trump doesn't really believe in anything but himself. You know, we've talked a lot on my show with experts about fascism, and I just think Trump's movement is fascist. Trump's not a fascist. He doesn't believe in anything but himself. And Hitler never spent ten minutes of a speech time before an election talking about a dead golfer speaker penis. So there are subtle differences, but I was looking into a few things we have to remember. Hitler scapegoated a, uh, powerless minority as vermin infestation that was poisoning the blood of the nation. So Hitler promised mass deportations of this undesirable minority. Hitler was right wing, pro militarist, white nationalist. He despised immigrants. Hitler banned abortions for citizens. Hitler was a scab who hated labor unions and collective bargaining. Hitler used law and order to justify expanding police powers. Uh, Hitler relaxed the stricter gun control laws of the liberal government that had come before him. He promised authoritarian leadership. He promised conservative. Hitler supported conservative religious education in the public schools. He called the press fake. He had big theatrical rallies where he promised he would crush Marxists. And Hitler's most fanatical support came from socially conservative Protestants. Who didn't give a fuck what Jesus actually said in the bible. I mean, sounds familiar there.
It's, like, vaguely familiar.
Don't run from these comparisons. Democrats talk about the ideology. You've still got these jackasses and you know this. Who will say that Hitler was left wing because the National Socialist Party, uh, like. Like they still get away with ple. The Democrats were the Confederates. They still get away with their ideology and running cover for it. So I think it was great. And I think Democrats should run to talk about the similarity in policy, because these conservatives deserve to know what they're voting for and their own media doesn't want them to know.
Yeah. Anytime I ever hear anyone say, try to do the flip, the whole history thing, and say, oh, it was the Democrats who were the Confederates, I always like to say, oh, so then you don't mind we're taking down. So then you don't mind that we're taking down all the confederate statues and changing the names of confederate military, uh, bases. You're cool with that then, right? And you're cool with. With getting rid of the confederate flag on state flags, right? Because if you, uh, hate the woke Democrats hate those. And that was their thing.
That's right.
Yeah, those.
Those right wing Confederate Democrats. I mean, if you hate Democrats and you think that they were the Confederacy, that you must hate the Confederacy, and they can't do it. They can't do it.
Of course they can.
And it's the same ideology and they can't face it. And that's why the press has let us down. The press should be asking, what does Donald Trump have in common with Jesus? What does Donald Trump not have in common with Hitler? And let's get the parallels out there, but look, the New York Times dreams of their 2017 circulation numbers, and we're witnessing a replay of 2020, of 2004 in many ways, where the american people knew that Bush had lied them into war. There were no wmds. The body banks were coming home every day, and they just didn't fucking care. And we're living through 2016, where the press is just so thirsty for the high ratings and click numbers they'll get if we elect this reality show racist clown. That's what decent people are pushing against.
I guess they don't realize that they will all go away and end up in gulags if. If he wins. I guess they think we're special. Oh, no, we're special. Trump loves CNN. Trump loves, you know, uh, the New York Times. Trump loves. We'll continue to have access to it.
Speaker one.
But the worst part is, we don't know which policies Trump is actually serious about and which ones he's not serious about. Like, there's no way he's going to deport 11 million souls out of this country. It's just, it's not going to happen. And if I'm wrong, I will be. I'll apologize and I'll own it. Because it's horrifying to think there's no money in place to do this. There's no infrastructure in place to do this. They're not going to pull people out of family homes and workplaces and schools to deport them. They're just nothing. We have to remember that. Things.
I think it might gut. I think it might privatize Social Security and Medicare. Privatize, privatize the VA, save that.
He would try to save all that.
Money and use it to deport people.
I'm more afraid that President JD Vance would actually do that. Trump doesn't believe in anything. I think Trump is doing this to stay out of Daily. I also think to some certain degree, he's taken money to take on JD Vance. The conspiracy theory that keeps me up now at night is that Trump resigns unless JD Vance be president. This was all cooked up by Peter Thiel two years ago. Like, I'm just spinning out on this thing. I need this to be over. Um, Miss Gill? But at the end of the day, the thing that saved America in this century is that our fascists have been incompetent. We have to remember Bush and Cheney tried to privatize Social Security. They did a lot of damage. I still think they were worse than Trump, but they were too incompetent to get away with their evil. It's the same with Trump. The stupid is always greater than the sinister. And how's Trump going to do, surrounded by loyalists and puppets, instead of adult republicans trying to play grown up in the room? There was never an adult in the room with Trump. There was an adult film star in the room. Never an adult. This time, if he gets in, it's only going to be like these sub omarosas and lackeys and flunkies, and they're going to make a mess of it all. And our Trump voting loved ones would deserve to see it every day. The worst part of Kamala Harris winning the presidency is that these douchebags won't get to be humiliated by their choice for Donald Trump.
Yeah. Wow. Well, thank you, my friend. Uh, I really encourage everybody to listen on that note, on that positive.
On that positive note. Yeah, um, we are. Thank you.
We are close. We're only just a little over a week out.
We're also doing so much better than we were four years ago. I mean, I was going over the headlines four years ago, and we had 83,000 new coronavirus cases. Unemployment was 7%, and Trump had told one lie a minute in his debate with Joe Biden on October 22. Like, we're doing so much better now than we were then. And I want to thank you for all you've done to keep me and so many people sane. And I said it to you in the break, but the ad you released is just making me proud to be an American every time I see it. So thank you, Miss Gill, for, uh, making this election hellscape so much more bearable.
Well, thank you so much, my friend. And right back at you. I can't wait to see you again on. Tell me everything on SiriusXM channel progress, channel 127. I think. I think we might have a date next week, um, and we'll let everybody know.
Thank you.
Uh, but that's weeknights at 09:00 p.m. eastern, six Pacific. Of course, the John Fugel sang show podcast, wherever you get your podcast. And, my friend, we are very close. We only have a little bit over a week to go, uh, until this election is over. Remember, November 5 isn't the election. November 5 is the end of the election.
That's right.
You can all go vote early, probably in your state right now. Unless. Are there any states that don't have early in person voting? Or.
I mean, there are quite a few. Yeah, but. But if you can do it, please do it. I filled out my ballot with my kid today, and he's going to drop it in the mailbox in New York City tomorrow, and I'm so excited about it. And, uh, wonderful. Just remember, every time Donald Trump talks about the Bible, an angel coughs up blood. Don't forget, folks. It's true.
Thanks. Thanks, John. I appreciate you. And we'll see you next week in our final appearance together on the Daily Beans before election night. And then we'll be talking about something else the following Thursday. I look forward to it. Or maybe dread it. I'm not sure yet. Uh, we'll find out when we're going to be okay.
It's going to be okay.
We might not have, uh, we might not have a declared winner by the time you and I speak. Next.
We really.
Next.
It took until Saturday to find out, Joe.
Saturday?
Yeah.
Yeah. Well, it'd be interesting. All right, uh, everybody, please stick around. We have a lot of good news we have to get to. And don't forget to listen to John Fugal sang show on SiriusXM, channel 127. It's really, really good if you. I know I say it every time, but it's just truly one of those incredible shows, uh, full of information. I love the, the back and forth with some of the callers. And then, of course, before, actually, before I let you go, because we're going to get to the good news in a second, but you have some, you have live show, this incredible.
Mention this. Yeah, we have the last sexy liberal show of the year before the election. It's going to be in LA at the orpheum, and it's going to be live streamed. If you want to join the party, it's such a fun show. Uh, this is going to be Saturday night, the 2 November. Let me just tell you who the special guests are. Mark Hamill, um, former president martin sheen and, uh, pre senator Adam Schiff will all be with us on stage. Some other special guests, house sparks, Frangela, Stephanie Miller and myself. It's a really fun show. The great alison gill herself, lowered herself to our level to join us on stage a few weeks ago in Phoenix. And it's just, ah, it's a party. Come join us Saturday night. Go to sexyliberal.com. it's only $20.24. And, um, let's get psyched up for the final home stretch of this monster.
It is truly, truly a party. I had the honor of watching it from backstage. It was so cool. I felt so important. I felt like such a vip. Uh, thank you so much, my friend. And, uh, as I promised, we'll be right back with the good news, everybody. Welcome back. It's time for the good news, everyone.
Then, good news, everyone.
And if you have any good news confessions, corrections you want, first of all, send in pronunciation corrections, please, because we get a lot of stuff wrong on pronunciation.
Absolutely.
But in order to submit your good news or your corrections, your confessions, you need to include, you have to pay pod pet tax, which is just a photo of your pet. And if there's something you want us to guess, like the different breeds in your, you know, your shelter mix, we can do that too. We're very bad at it. But if you don't have a pup, you can send in any animal. We can guess, uh, cows and chickens and turtles. We have. What the hell is in that shell? What's the model of your oxolotl? We have all kinds of guessing games you can play. And if you don't have pod pet tax to pay, send us an adoptable pet in your area, or baby tax, send us your baby photo. And then, of course, we want to do shout outs, whether it's a loved one or somebody doing amazing campaigning work in your area, or if you know, you can send us pictures of your postcard party. We want to see that. Of course, a small business in your area that could use a boost, or your small business, including self shoutouts. We love those. Uh, very much. You want to toot your own horn. We would love to hear about it. And of course, a shout out to a government program that's helped you or someone that you know, whether it's Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, um, the $35 insulin cap, dollar 35 inhaler. I, uh, cap the $2,000 a year out of pocket cap. Is that going to help you? I know we're an open enrollment area right now, um, for ACA and Medicare. Let us know if that's going to help you. And of course, student debt relief. Uh, if you've had your student loans forgiven, we want to hear about that, too. Send it all to us dailybeanspod.com and click on contact. First up, from holly B. Good morning, most flavorful bean queens. I love your effervescent swearing with the news every morning. My shout out for three members of my family, it's complicated. I promise only to hit the highlights of the story for my pod pet tax. This is Misha Kitty. You've seen her before, but she wanted to be part of the shout out. 95 years ago, my grandmother wrote an illustrated children's story. She was a single mother of two in Florida at the time of the crash of Wall street. With no training in story writing or art, my grandmother created an imaginary tale with her son, Jackie Boy and daughter coral the mermaid as key characters. Her illustrations were full color paintings, but she made black and white prints, too. In 1935, a category five hurricane swept through southern Florida. In the devastating aftermath, my grandmother discovered the box with the paintings had washed away. But a copy of the story and the black and white prince survived. Two years ago, I was thinking of my grandmother and how it was a shame the children's story she wrote would be forgotten. When my sisters and my cousins died, I tracked down a copy of the story and contacted my publisher. She was game, but it needed work. I approached my cousin, a talented artist on the east coast, sending him a copy of the story and the scanned Black and white illustrations where I'd been astounded with the captivating story. He was blown away with the phenomenal talent of the illustrations. My cousin said about the slow task of colorizing the prints. I worked on the book, updating some archaic word usage, writing the extras forward, acknowledgement, etcetera. It just came out in print almost a hundred years later. Wow. It can be found on Amazon by the title Jackie Boy and the Sea Folk. Ironically, the art was restored by Jackie Boy's youngest son, and the story was edited by Coral's youngest daughter. So shout out to my grandmother Sherry, my cousin Larry, artist and a self shout out to me, who conceived of the resurrection and put the wheels in motion. A 95 year journey.
This is absolutely incredible.
Oh, man, look at these illustrations.
Amazing.
Oh, this is going to make these holiday gifts, everyone.
Absolutely.
It's called Jackie Boy and the seafolk. Get your copy today. Oh, um, beautiful. Amazing. Thank you so much. What an incredible submission.
All right, this is from Yvonne pronouns, she and her three girlfriends. And I just sent 300 postcards to Texas voters to remind them to vote. A last push. I became a citizen after Trump won in 2016 and have been voting against the GOP ever since. Never miss voting. You are exercising the american freedom we are all so proud of. Thank you for all you do. My sanity is intact because of your podcast during the Mueller days. I'm promoting my art and hope you like it.
It.
The art is Vaughn. Y v o n n e. Herb start. H e R B S t A R T. Yvonne Herbstart on Ig and threads. I paint animals mostly, but also delve into storytelling with other art projects. Oh, my God.
No.
Yvonne. Holy shit balls.
That's so good.
That's beyond good.
Oh, my gosh.
That's incredible.
Do you do commissions? I'm gonna send in my.
Wow.
My potato.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. Thank you for sharing that with us.
I love the halo, too. Anyway, thank you so much. That's really, truly amazing. All right, next up from ATX polar bear. On Monday, the first day of early voting here in Texas, I got to live the AG and DG sign off message. I went to the polls. I took my family with me, my parents, my sister and my niece, and I voted blue all the way down the ballot. I want to encourage everyone else in Texas to do the same. This election, we have an opportunity to elect Colin Allred to the US Senate and be rid of Ted Cruz once and for all. Yes. If you guys could just get rid of Timu Wolverine, I would be so happy for my tax. Here's a photo of me and my parents after our voting dinner. And you made a dinner of it, too. Incredible.
I love this. And for those of you that have judges, and most people do on their ballots, just a reminder, all you have to do is put into your little Google, search their name and party affiliation, and it will give it to you. They do not list it on the ballots. They're not supposed to, because judges, by nature, is supposed to be impartial. But if. Yep, I know. If you want to find out party affiliation, I sat for hours and researched everything in California's ballot book, and trust me, this thing is the dictionary encyclopedias. So big. But I got it all done. So do the same. Just click a box for a judge, see where they stand.
Another cool thing you can do is to go, like, what I like to do, the way I like to vote, Dana, uh, is I like to go to the center. The LGBTQ center.
Uh-huh.
And they have a voter guide.
Yep.
And I'm like, if this is how the LGBTQ center wants me to vote, this is how I'm going to vote. Like, I can. Uh, like, I trust their research. And so that's another really great way to get a good voter guide in your area.
Absolutely. Okay. This is from Kevin. Pronouns he and him. Hi, Beans, queens. Greetings from Alberta, Canada, the Texas of Canada. I wanted to write in and encourage everyone to vote, even if you're in a place where you think your vote won't matter. I'm in a notoriously conservative district in a notoriously conservative province. And in the last provincial election, my district flipped to progressive representation. The margins were tight, but we still won. Every vote matters for pod pet tax, I present to you Turner and Wexford, the cute little pride bow ties. The pic was taken a few years ago, but is one of my favorites of them. As a gay guy in a conservative province, it warms my heart to think they support me. Thanks for all you do. And even if the worst in November happens, I'll be here listening, and we'll get through it together one last time. For everyone joining us late, every vote matters. And these little babies with the rainbow.
Bowties, cutie tuxi and a ginger kevin. You have two clowns, and it must be really entertaining to have these babies as cats. Thank you so much. And I love their little distinguished bow ties. They're definitely doing cat business, and that's important. All right, next up, bunny. She her Beans. Queenden, thank you for using the term framily in your outro. It makes me feel included, as I had to let go of my family origin after my decision to help investigate and testify against a criminal put my legal name into news cycles, enraging the patriarch who runs our family of origin, like the orange guy would like to run this country. My good news is that, having defected from my family of origin, I have an amazing poly framily now. I've been ill for a while, and my nesting partner wanted to go to an ethical non monogamy discussion group we attended but wanted me to be cared for while he was out. My girlfriend came over to boost my spirits and take care of me so he could enjoy an evening out. Then he brought home food for everyone. Excellent. It wasn't until I was truly cared for by my family that I realized I was used to a lack of basic comfort and care that I needed most of my life. Hearing about people's positive experiences in the good news helps me see that support comes in endless shapes and sizes. Oh, that's so true. Having my family take such good care of me. I will begin writing in the journal AG signed for me in Chicago as soon as I fill my current volume number 52. I hope by then I can write my signed volume number 53 about a president who understands the value of social connection and support rather than the division and suffering the other candidate and his team wants to promote for pet tax. I'm sharing our 17 year old clingy Mandeh. Clingy man cat, Aku, who has assigned me, uh, as his daytime human and assigned my nesting partner as his nighttime human. Oh, my gosh. He needs connection just like we do. And adds so much love to this cozy framily. Thank you for doing what you do. And look at this little baby. Oh, secret. I love when black cats are secretly brown. When they get in the sun, you see their bionifer sometimes.
Don't tell anybody.
Sometimes they have secret stripes. I know.
Me too.
What an incredible good news block for this Friday. Um. Whew. We got two weekends to go.
We have Scaramucci left by the time you're listening to this one scaramouche.
Ah, yes, the count. The count of Scaramouchis. It's on. Oh, my God. One. One scaramouche. Oh, my God, dude, it won't be over soon enough. And then. I know you know, it's never over. Uh, but this election will be. And, um, we'll be here. We'll be here. Um, do you have any final thoughts before we get out of here today?
Um, I just had a good thing happen to me yesterday, I was doing an event for the women's image awards. Um, and I got to meet the living legend, uh, Melissa Etheridge, and share a stage and my college, the college lesbian. And me did everything I could to keep my cool, but, like, watching some of the clips from her life and her career and the new documentary about her going into prisons and singing to the women, and she's phenomenal. Was the nicest fucking person. And it was just one of those moments where I was like, this is fun. Like, this is fun.
Amazing.
I'm going to post those pictures on Instagram, so if you don't follow me there, that's a good way to see them. It's DG comedy, and you've got Allisonuller. She wrote same handle, so go give us a follow. Um, and it's always sometimes nice to see pictures instead of seeing a tweet, and you just get to see pictures instead of words.
I should use Instagram more. I just. I just don't.
I'm trying.
I don't have a lot of pictures.
It's all cats.
M. Wow, that's such a cool story.
She's really.
She's amazing. She's truly amazing. What an incredible artist. And her influence on social issues and justice and politics is just immense. All right, well, that does it for us. You can check out the Jack podcast this weekend, the Beans bonus this weekend, the cleanup bonus this weekend, and, uh, we'll be back in your ears on Monday. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of your mental health, take care of the planet, take care of your family.
Vote blue over q and take all that framily with you.
And go to vote.org comma, check your registration status, go to vote 411 to get your voting information locally and vote down ballot all the way. I've been AG and I've been DG, and them's the Beans.
