Call your Dem senators and tell them not to fund the government without getting some shit fixed - If you agree. I know many folks may not agree with me that we should risk shutting down the government, but I can tell you that’s the consensus among all the current and former federal employees I’ve spoken with, including a lot of the alts. MSW Media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Today, survivors of Jeffrey Epstein will speak in a press conference at 10:30am Eastern time as Representative Thomas Massie takes the first step to force a House vote to release the Epstein files. D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser signed an executive order allowing federal law enforcement occupation indefinitely. A federal judge has ruled that Trump's use of the National Guard in California violates the Posse Comitatus Act. Pete Kegseth has approved 600 military lawyers to serve as immigration judges. Nine former CDC directors slam RFK Jr. In an op ed scientists find multiple errors in the latest Department of Energy climate report. And Jerry Nadler will not seek re election, citing the need for a new generation of leadership in Congress. I'm Alison Gill.
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Uh, hey, everybody. Happy Wednesday. It's the middle of the week. We're halfway through it. Today was a lot. So we see you if you're having a hard time today. Later in the show, we're going to be talking to a candidate who's running in Illinois's 9th district for Congress, for U.S. congress. His name's Howard Rosenblum. I'm looking forward to speaking with him. And Womp, Womp, Trump is fine. Uh, he looked awful and sounded ridiculous, but that's normal. Yeah, he had his press conference, uh, rambling, as he usually does, about fashy stuff. He's going to move Space Command headquarters to Huntsville, Alabama, which is a huge, expensive, terrible national security mistake. And of course, he announced he's sending troops to Chicago. And according to some breaking news, Texas National Guard has landed at Great Lakes. They're. They're under Title 32, which means the Posy Comitatus act is irrelevant. Like what we're going to talk about in Los Angeles, the ruling that came down from Judge Breyer in California, but it raises a whole host of other legal questions about state sovereignty. And they're talking about planning to target Mexican Independence Day celebrations in the city on September 16th.
Oh, boy.
Yeah. So just horrific. And, um, Governor Pritzker, after Trump's press conference, responded with his own press conference. Here's a little clip of that.
I refuse to pretend that any of this is normal. I refuse to concede that the abject cruelty that we're seeing play out with the execution of Trump and Stephen Miller's policies are okay or justified. I refuse to fall into the pundit trap that demands we sacrifice vital constitutional rights if it's being done in the fake guise of fighting crime. Because as I said six months ago in my State of the State address, any rational person who has spent even the most minimal amount of time studying human history has to ask themselves on one important question. Once they get the citizens of this nation comfortable with the current atrocities committed under the color of law, what comes next?
So I did have fun this weekend with all the speculations and the. We'll still have the IT Gala. It's just, you know, shelved for now.
Indeed. It'll happen eventually.
Yep.
He.
He did go on tell a bunch of lies. He did look puffier than normal, and he had a lot of makeup on.
But, yeah, I still think there's something happened, but. Because when people asked him, they actually said, you know, how do you respond to the rumors that were going around that you might actually be dead? He was like, well, I mean, I had some events and I was on a podcast for like an hour. And, you know, it wasn't his normal response to a rumor like that at all.
Right. At first he was like, oh, I didn't hear about that. I only heard people wondering where I was or whatever. Yeah, he did have a bunch of makeup on his hand again. I think it's still the same bruise that he had before, but I mean, otherwise it was just kind of Trump as we know him.
Got it.
Also, Epstein's survivors news conference is today. It's at 10:30am Eastern Time. House Oversight says it's going to move to release some of the Epstein files as early as tonight, which is last night, as you're listening to this Tuesday night. We'll let you know what those are on the next episode. But I'm assuming they're just. It's stuff we've already seen, but who knows?
I hope it's. I'm just glad that we're actually hearing from them. That's where the news conference. We should be hearing from the survivors. And I hope that just even hearing their voices and their stories will maybe change some. You know, it'll keep it in the dialogue and it'll keep it in the news cycle, and that's what we need to do.
Right?
Yeah. And, um, Rep. Massi filed a discharge petition Tuesday to basically force a floor vote compelling the Justice Department to release all the files from the Jeffrey Epstein case. Now, if they can secure the requisite 218 signatures, there is still an additional waiting period of seven legislative days before a vote can actually happen. Then the House speaker has two legislative days before he can. He has to call up the measure for a vote on the floor. So the earliest that vote can even happen, the final vote could be, uh, in, like, in two weeks.
I gotcha. But I'm glad to see the House coming back from recess like nothing happened, because that's what we were doing when Mike Johnson shut it down. Right. As we were trying to throw Epstein file amendments on every bill. And, uh, that fervor is continuing as. As they come back from break. All right, we have a lot of news to get to today, so let's hit that. Notes, hot notes. All right, first up from The Washington Post, D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday welcomed federal law enforcement officials to stay in D.C. indefinitely, a powerful indication of her willingness to cooperate with President Trump's efforts to take over public safety in the Capitol. Now, Bowser issued an executive order Tuesday that requires local coordination with federal law enforcement, quote, to the maximum extent allowable by law within the District. But the order gives no expiration date. So, by law, as you and I discussed, Dana Trump's Federalization of the D.C. police lasts 30 days and is set to expire next week. But Bowser's announcement may quell any showdown over what happens after that deadline passes, because she's authorized continued cooperation between the city and federal authorities. Now, I want to be clear, she may not have a choice here. Trump kind of has his boot on her neck in this situation. Right. Because the continuing resolution that passed before, remember when Chuck Schumer and nine other Democrats allowed a vote to go, or eight other Democrats, I think it was a total of nine, or something like that, voted for cloture and allowed it to pass by a simple majority. It defunded the District of Columbia by $1.1 billion. Schools, law enforcement, crime prevention, et cetera. And the Senate was like, oh, we'll pass it again. Chuck Schumer's like, we'll pass it separately. And they did in the Senate, but then Mike Johnson refused to take it up.
Got it. Yeah.
So they're defunded. And so I'm hoping, though, that this time that that continuing resolution, that one that I just talked about, it expires at the end of this month. So I'm hoping the Democrats in the Senate don't vote for cloture this time and don't fund Trump's government without certain demands, like, get your people out of D.C. yeah. Fund D.C. like you're supposed to. I mean, there's any number of different requirements we could demand in other. Otherwise threaten a shutdown.
Yeah, Republics do it all the time, and this is for good reason.
Yeah, Agreed.
Yeah. All right. This one's from cnn. A federal judge ruled Tuesday that President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Kegseth violated federal law by using the US Military to help carry out law enforcement activities in and around Los angeles this summer. U.S. district Judge Charles Breyer concluded that Trump's use of thousands of federalized California national guard members and U.S. marines to provide protection to federal agents during an aggressive immigration crackdown in the Los Angeles area that it ran afoul of the Posse Comitatus act. That's a 19th century law, by the way, that generally prohibits the use of troops for domestic law enforcement purposes. The ruling from Breyer, who held a multi day trial last month over Trump's use of the military in the state, comes as the President is weighing whether to send National Guard members to other cities, including ones in California and Illinois. And I quote, president Trump and Secretary Hegseth have stated their intention to call National Guard troops into service in other cities across the country. This is from Breyer. This is what he wrote in his 52 page opinion. He said, thus creating a national police force with the President as its chief. The evidence at trial established that defendants systematically used armed soldiers, whose identity was often obscured by protective armor and military vehicles, to set up protective perimeters and traffic blockades, engaged in crowd control and otherwise demonstrate a military presence in and around Los Angeles. In short, defendants violated the Posse Comitatus Act. That's Breyer. He blocked, by the way, that judge blocked Trump and Hegseth from using troops there for, and I quote, arrests, apprehensions, searches, seizures, security patrols, traffic control, crowd control, riot control, evidence collection, interrogation, or acting as informants. So basically you can't do shit. Why are you here? The judge paused that part of his ruling, by the way, until next Friday to give the administration time to appeal it again.
Very common practice to pause the mandate to give time for an appeal, but they are allowed to remain there as long as they don't do any of those things that you listed. Right, Right. He narrowed their. You can't. And that, because it does, it violates the Posse Comitatus Act. But like I said about Chicago, they're there under Title 32, which is state run, not federalized National Guard. And so Texas is running at least the Texas troops that are there, but that violates state sovereignty stuff. So there's all kinds of legal problems with that as well. And I think that, you know, if Trump is frustrated enough, he'll find a reason to either invoke the Insurrection act so that the Posse Comitatus doesn't apply you know, something along those lines. All right, next up from the Associated Press, Defense Secretary Kegseth has approved sending up to 600 military lawyers to the Justice Department to serve as temporary immigration judges, according to a memo reviewed by the Associated Press. Do I have to just say here, Dana, that immigration judges aren't part of the regular judicial branch?
Oh, okay, okay.
They're part of the executive branch. They work for the doj. So. And the rule used to be that you could only use administrative law judges or other immigration judges to serve as temporary immigration judges. But on August 28, the Trump administration changed that rule so that they can use these guys, these military judges or these military. Yeah, military lawyers. Excuse me.
Right.
To serve as temporary immigration judges. And do what? Basically, do what they say. The military will begin sending groups of 150 attorneys, both military and civilian, to the Justice Department as soon as practicable. And the military services should have the first round of people identified by next week, according to the memo dated August 27th. Now, of course, you're taking 600 lawyers out of the military. That means there's not going to be any military lawyers there.
Right?
You have to think about that. You know, the impact on the military. The effort comes as the Trump administration is cracking down on immigration across the country, ramping up arrests, deportations, et cetera. Immigration courts also already are dealing with a massive backlog of about 3.5 million cases that has ballooned in recent years.
Wow.
However, numerous immigration judges have been fired or they've left voluntarily after taking deferred resignations offered by this administration, and that's according to their union, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers said in July that at least 17 immigration judges had been fired without cause in courts across the country, probably for not doing what Trump wanted him to. He can, like I said, do this legally because they changed that rule on Aug. 28 about who can serve as temporary immigration judges. So this is frightening.
And let's be clear. There's more than 600 military lawyers. So I guarantee there is going to be a loyalty test to see who will actually carry out their plans. Those are the 600 people that are going to be made judges. There's no doubt in my mind.
I'm sure.
Yeah.
And they'll just give them a direct order.
Exactly. Exactly. And because they're military, they have to follow it. They have to follow it. This is from NPR. A group of more than 85 scientists have issued a joint rebuttal to a recent U.S. department of Energy report about climate change, finding it Full of errors and full of shit and misrepresenting climate science.
That should just be a headline full of excerpts and full of shit.
Full of shit. This comes weeks after the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Environmental Defense Fund filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration that alleges that Energy Secretary Chris Wright and I quote, quietly arranged for five handpicked skeptics of the effects of climate change to compile the government's climate report and violated the law by creating the report in secret with authors, and I quote, of only one point of view. And that point of view is that climate change isn't real.
Right.
The group of climate scientists found several examples where the DOE authors cherry picked or they misrepresented climate science in the agency's report.
No.
For instance, in the DOE report, the authors claim that rising carbon dioxide can be a net benefit to U.S. agriculture. Oh, yes. Neglecting to mention the negative impacts of more heat and climate change fueled extreme weather events on crops like flooding and droughts. The DOE report also states that there is no evidence of more intense meteorological drought in the US or globally, referring to droughts that involve low rainfall. But the dozens of climate scientists point that this is misleading because higher temperatures and more evaporation, not just low rainfall, can lead to and exacerbate droughts. They said that there are, in fact, many studies showing how climate change has exacerbated droughts. The group of more than 85 scientists recently submitted their review of the Climate Working Group report to the Federal Register as part of the DOE's 30 day open comment period, which closes on Tuesday.
That's today. Uh, yesterday, as you're listening to this. But are they even going to listen to them?
I mean, probably not.
No, probably not. Uh, so, I mean, I'm glad that there's a group of scientists out there who are like, redlining this report. And I think it's fascinating that the Trump administration is trying to say that carbon dioxide can be good for you.
Wild. It's wild.
All right, uh, next up from cbs, nine former directors of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention penned an op ed Monday condemning Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr's leadership. And I'm putting leadership in air quotes. In the aftermath of the firing of the CDC director last week, claiming RFK Jr. Is endangering every American's health, unquote. This is the nine former directors of the CDC. Amazing quote, what the Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Has done to the CDC and to our nation's public health system over the past several months, culminating in his decision to fire Dr. Susan Minarez as CDC director days ago, is unlike anything we had ever seen at the agency and unlike anything our country has ever experienced. That's what the nine former directors and acting directors wrote in the op ed in the New York Times. The Trump administration attempted to oust CDC director Susan Minarez last week. We talked about that less than a month after she was confirmed by the Senate, although her lawyers have pushed back on the legality of her firing. Meanwhile, several other top CDC officials have resigned in recent days, pointing to disagreements with the Trump administration over its vaccine policy, among other things. CBS News report. Yeah, I guess they were like, sorry, we don't do cocaine for ghosts in our blood and use lampreys for bloodletting when we get sick from a whale head that we strapped to the top of our car. It's just not how we do things at the cdc.
Oh my God. I did see the funniest Jeff or Instagram where it was like, if Trump was dead, RFK Jr. Would have actually taken his head and strapped it to the roof of his car by now. Oh my God.
With all his juices sloshing around. CBS News reported last week that Jim o', Neill, the deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, has been selected to serve as the acting director of the cdc. He doesn't have a degree in any kind of science, by the way. In their op ed, the former CDC directors, who served under both Democratic and Republican administrations, pointed to a number of decisions by Kennedy that are unlike anything we've ever seen at the agency, including canceling investments into medical research and the move to replace members on a key vaccine advisory committee, among other things. And just today we learned that Donald Trump is canceling funding for pediatric brain cancer research. Like, it's just. We know, we know what's. It's shocking but not surprising, right?
Yeah.
Quote, Firing Dr. Manera's which led to the resignations of top CDC officials adds considerable fuel to this raging fire. That's what the former CDC directors added. Kennedy is set to appear before the Senate Finance Committee tomorrow to testify on Trump's health care agenda. And I again put Trump's health care agenda in quotes as well. And did you see that? Both sides bullshit op ed about Michelle Obama and RFK Jr. Tried to do the same thing. And no. Whatever. Yeah. Comparing Michelle Obama being like, hey, eat a vegetable, get up and go for a walk to RFK juniors, You know, do cocaine about ghosts in your blood.
Oh God. I mean, Listen, I can't. The guy's batshit. The only thing I would ever agree with on him is there too many additives in our food. The dyes, the additives, all of that that' I've ever heard come out of his mouth, that I think is relatively reasonable.
The shit that comes out of his mouth is so ridiculous.
It's. It. I know we've talked about this before. It's not important right now. I'm gonna give some, uh, it's sort of good news. But it's, you know, if you like the guy, and we do, uh, the retirement isn't good news. The reason why is me too. This is from the Times. Representative Gerald Nadler, as we know, is Jerry Nadler, a, uh, New York Democrat who has been one of Congress's leading liberal voices for three decades. He's not gonna seek reelection next year. The, he's heeding a call, though, for the generational change roiling his party. The reason is most people are like, I'm gonna spend more time with my family. This guy's like, we're too old. We need the next generation to come in. Yeah. The decision's gonna mark the close of a 34 year congressional career that put Mr. Nadler at the center of major civil rights battles and three presidential impeachments. It's also m almost certainly gonna touch off a crowded primary fight over a rare open Democratic seat in, in the heart of Manhattan. Now, in recent interview in his downtown Manhattan office, Mr. Nadler, who's 78, he's actually one of the younger, older congressmen, said he hesitated to step aside when he believes that Trump is threatening the foundations of democracy. But he said that he's been persuaded it was time for changing of a guard. Nadler declined to name specific colleagues that he believed should also retire, though he acknowledged that other aging Democrats ought to consider it. And I quote, I'm not saying we should change over the entire party. Okay. But I think a certain amount of change is very helpful, especially when we face the challenge of Trump and his incipient fascism. And this isn't an ageism thing. Okay, everyone. There are older people in Congress that are doing a hell of a job. There are also some older people in Congress that should have retired. That goes for probably almost every single career in the world.
We have younger people in Congress that.
Aren'T doing, aren't doing their jobs.
Exactly. I think it's more of an attitude.
So this isn't an ageism thing. But yeah, just the fact that he's like it's time. It's time for a new guard to come in. It's a beautiful reason. 34 years. It's not like this guy's only been doing this for six, and he's like, you know what? I think a new guard should come in. 34 years. He put in his time, he did what we needed him to do. And I just hope that we get someone is equally passionate and who cares about democracy and his place in the middle of Manhattan. I. I think, well, you know, we've been fooled before by, you know, Democrats and sheep, Republican clothing, so let's just hope it's a good person.
Yeah, I, I imagine the people, the good people of, of Manhattan will, uh, select an incredible representative.
Yeah.
All right. It's time for some good trouble.
What are you guys doing?
All right, everybody, your good trouble today is, is really. I mean, this is kind of my opinion, and if you don't share this opinion, please feel free not to do this, but I'm so mad about what Trump is doing to D.C. and Bowser, Mayor Bowser. So please call your Democratic senators again if you're into it, and tell them don't fund the government without getting some shit fixed. Again, only if you agree. I know a lot of folks may not agree we should risk shutting down the government, but I can tell you that the consensus among all the current and former federal employees that I've spoken with, including, uh, a lot of the alts, are pro. Shut down the government. This government is broken. The Trump government is broken. And we can't continue to fund it without, you know, protecting elections or funding D.C. or allowing appropriations to be spent, you know, funding U.S. aid, like, just getting rid of this vaccine board, something, anything fight, you know?
Yeah, yeah, well said.
Put, um, up a fight. Don't vote for cloture in the Senate. And that's, again, like, if you, if you're against a government shutdown, totally get it. There's arguments on both sides. Right? Like, but if, if you're into it, please call your Democratic senators and tell them that you don't want them to fund this government without some demands being met. All right, we have a Keep it Blue segment coming up next for Illinois's 9th congressional district with Howard Rosenblum. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
We'll be right back.

It's time to keep it. Um, uh, and joining me today is civil rights attorney. 33 years of experience, 20 years of litigation and advocacy in Illinois, spent 13 years as CEO and director of Legal services for the national association of the Deaf. He's a founder, board chair and CEO of Deaf Equality, a nonprofit that's dedicated to advocating for equality for all deaf and hard of hearing people. He's been appointed twice by President Obama to serve on the U.S. access Board and appointed by Governor J.B. pritzker, one of my favorites, to serve on the Illinois Human Rights Commission. Now, the way that I met our guest today, who's running, by the way, to represent Illinois's 9th congressional district, was at the Democratic National Convention last August. So it's been a happy one year anniversary, my friend. I was there because I myself have a, uh, disability, ptsd. They were able to accommodate me by putting me in a quiet section of the arena because it's a very loud arena. And next to me for hours was this amazing low vision deaf person who was trying to listen to the speeches at the convention. And in order to get that done, what the convention did, and the people, uh, for accessibility at the convention, because she was low vision, they had to sign right in front of her face. And because it was dark, in order to help her be able to see the signing, our next guest was there holding a flashlight for her to be able to do that for hours. So he is deaf. So you may hear a little bit of a pause between renditions because we have a sign language interpreter who is interpreting what our guest says and what I say. He is the first deaf person to run for this seat. And I want to please welcome Howard Rosenblum to the Daily Beans. Hi, Howard.
Uh, thank you for having me here. I am honored to be here and I look forward to the discussion so that everyone can know what I represent and what I can deliver to the 9th district.
I'm so glad to speak to you and meet you again face to face. We didn't really get a chance to talk much during the dnc. It was absolute chaos, in a good way. But I've noticed here that the field to represent Illinois's ninth is a pretty large field. And so I'd like to know, I'd like to start out with what sets you apart about your platform and how that will impact the 9th district, because I'm really interested in the demographics there in the 9th.
Absolutely. You know, the 9th district has been well represented for the longest time by Jan Szakowski. And, uh, it's been pretty tough for the last year with the current administration destroying everything that we hold dear. And so that's a big reason that I'm running. I have been a civil rights attorney for 33 years, and all of my work, I've seen, uh, things get better. Just the rights of people as a whole get better. People who have been traditionally marginalized, solely getting more access. But now we're going backwards. So I've been seeing the rights of people who. Not just deaf, disabled, uh, people, but all people who have traditionally been marginalized. I have seen over my 33 years of work, I've seen an increase in civil rights protections for people who are deaf, people who have disabilities, and really all people who have been traditionally marginalized. They're slowly gaining more rights. But in the last, I guess it is eight months, we've seen a weakening of the court with a, uh, president that is ignoring our rights entirely. All rights entirely. Citizens rights, all legal rights. And so, uh, I feel like what I can potentially bring, what I've been doing, uh, I've seen that it's harder to fight in the courts, and I want to transition to the congressional level and represent the voice of people who have been traditionally marginalized, people who are disabled, people from other countries, people who are of different religions, races, lgbtq. All of us need protection now. And I feel I have that experience. And I've already litigated many corporations. I've litigated the government. I've even sued President Trump himself. And one. I know how to play the game, and I want to try that in at the legislative level rather than in the courts. Now, I am the only, or rather I am one of two people in the race who are attorneys. I am the only one with federal experience.
Well, I think that's amazing, to be able to bring that battle for civil rights out of the courtroom and into the legislature, into the Congress, to stand up for the rights of everyone, as you said. And I want to ask how we do that, you know, keeping this seat blue and having it represented by someone with so much experience in battling for our civil rights, which are in dire straits right now. What kind of things will you be looking to do when you represent the ninth in Illinois in US Congress to push back against the Trump agenda? If we get the Congress, we have subpoena power. We can do investigations. What kind of things are you looking toward to help stop what this administration is doing?
I think there's a lot of tools that we haven't used yet to slow things down with all the bad actions. We could call for hearings on everything that's been done in violation of the law. We can, uh, coordinate with legal professionals between Congress and the legal professionals to ensure that whatever actions the White House takes, that takes away from congressional power is challenged. Because currently, Congress isn't challenging anything. And this is not the rule of law. This is not how the separation of power works. We need to represent that in Congress, and Congress has the power. They've been letting go of it. But with a blue wave in 2026, we'll see at least one chamber in control, being blue. And that will give us more ability to provide pressure to the White House and defend and react to their actions.
And tell me about some specific issues that the 9th district faces, besides the larger rights and being trampled on and having the National Guard sent to Illinois and the larger things about stopping the Trump administration. What are some of the, I guess, characterizations of constituents in the 9th district? I'm assuming there's a lot going on with education and jobs. I assume there's a lot going on with health care. What are some of the focal points of your platform to specifically address the needs of the constituents in the ninth District?
Absolutely. Uh, similar to what's been going on all over the United States, but for the 9th district specifically, we need better paid jobs, we need affordable housing, we need health care for all, and we need safety from the federal government itself, especially with ice and they're sending the military, National Guard. The federal government has been using its rule to protect us. Uh, instead, the federal government right now is the danger. We need protection from the federal government. If I'm elected to Congress, I will make sure that we use every power we have available to prevent that from happening. I see that going through the courts right now in California, and we need to watch what happens there to ensure that whatever happens there applies here and then do everything we can do to gum up that action by Trump to hurt our community.
Well, I really appreciate you joining us today and I want to let everybody know where they can learn more about your campaign and find and follow you and perhaps help, maybe kick in a buck or two, help with, uh, volunteering, postcarding, uh, phone banking. So if you have a final statement, a wrap up about your campaign, something that you would like everyone to know, followed by the information about your campaign that we can share with everyone.
Absolutely. My campaign, uh, is pretty easy to find. It's Howard Rosenbloom.com and I'm all on all the social media outlets. I am a new, ah, kind of politician. I've never run for office in the past. I am an attorney with federal experience and I know how to beat Trump on his game. I've won lawsuits against him. My skill set, uh, is highly regarded by people like Obama, Governor Pritzer, and I'm ready to go to bat for everyone, every person in Illinois, especially the 9th district. They all deserve to have a good life here, to be safe from hate, be safe from the federal government and free to express ourselves as we see fit. I am all about civil rights and fighting for you.
I love that And I have to say I think the representation is so important to move forward on accessibility for people with disabilities, often so many times left behind. And I think that that kind of representation, regardless of the disability. My disability is very different from your disability. But that representation in Congress is lacking and I would really love to see it.
Absolutely. If I am elected, I will be the first ever deaf person in any legislation in the United States.
That's amazing. Well, I appreciate your time today. Thank you so much for joining us on the Daily Beans.
Thank you for your time as well and inviting me to your show.
A hundred percent. Howard Rosenbloom, everybody. Stick around. We'll be right back with the good news. All right, everybody, welcome back. It's time for the good news, everyone.
Then, good news, everyone.
Good news. And if you have any good news, any little great thing that's happened to you, no matter how recent or how far in the past it was, we would love to hear from you. We would love to hear your story. Maybe you have a shout out to a loved one or a small business in your area or a great non profit you work for or you have seen that you think needs to get a little bit of time in the spotlight. We would love to hear about that. Um, we would love to hear a shout out to a government program that's helped you or a loved one. Maybe you can share with us what you're making or creating your hobbies to pass the time until, until the next election. Um, you can share that with us. And all you got to do to get your good news right on the air is pay your pod pet tariff, which means really for us, just attach a photo. It doesn't matter what it is, but you can attach a photo of your pet. We can try to guess the breeds in your shelter pup if you want. If you don't have a pet, send an adoptable pet in your area. We always love to look at those cuties and see if we can find them a home. If you don't have that, just grab a random animal photo off the intern. Send your family photos in. Awkward. Family photos, holiday gatherings, um, uh, baby pictures, anything at all. Uh, maybe your happy place, a sunset, maybe a rally you've been to, a great sign you've seen recently. We had some great Labor Day rallies. Would love to see what you were out and about doing. Maybe an overpass sign. There's a lot of overpass things that are happening around town. And of course, bird watching, which can be an actual bird or you and your family and friends flipping the bird to Trump or Musk Properties so you can send it to us all. Dailybeanspod.com Just click on contact. First up from Kate, an American in Canada. Pronoun she and her. Hi, AG and dg. Thank you for the news. Thank you for the swearing because Jesus H. Christ on a trampoline. Do we ever need news with swearing? Reminds me of, uh, jumping Jesus on a pogo stick. There's your 80s pop cultural reference for you today.
There you go, everybody.
On hedging against Trump's tariffs, you wondered if Starlink had anything to do with the GPS hack over Bulgaria. But StarLink doesn't use GPS. Musk has been making a case for replacing GPS with a proprietary alternative satellite nav system. Europe uses four global navigation satellite systems. Galileo from the European Space Agency, the US GPS system, glonass, which is Russian and a Chinese one. So since this was identified as a GPS hack, it sounds like it was the US GPS system that was jammed from the ground. Thank you so much. Yeah, American and Canada knows her shit. For my BODBET tariff, I enclose a photo of my dog Ruby, taken just after she returned home from her spa day. I know you can guess her breed. I also enclosed two photos of a stealth Tesla which is parked at the supermarket here in Kelowna BC in Canada. Nice try.
Thanks for all you do.
I voted for Dana. I hope you win.
Aw, thank you.
And congratulations on the well deserved top 10 rankings. So here's the Tesla. Somebody put a little Canadian maple leaf over the Tesla.
That's actually adorable.
Uh, that's great. And look at this sweet, sweet little Yorkie baby. Oh, yes, the haircut is, um, amazing. Oh, my gosh, that's so funny. Yep, we got it right. Black and tan Yorkie.
All right, we're one for one today. All right, heads up. And then we our next submission, it says, heads up, Supercaster subscribers. There's something keeping Supercast from sending emails out with a new episode. Sorry, we're really not sure how long this issue will last. The good news though, you can still see the pod pics if you log into Supercast and click on the episode. So go to DailyBeans.Supercast.com subscriber we're going to have a link and click on the episode title to see the show notes and pod pics. You might want to bookmark that link to make sure you always have access to pod pics and happy hour invites. Okay, everyone, psa. Put it in your cap.
Nice. Thank you for that. Thanks to our producers for that note. Yeah, a lot of people are saying they haven't been getting their emails, say it's a super cast problem, we're just waiting for them to fix it. It bums me out that we rely on so many different tech companies to make everything go. I know, but there we are. All right, next up from Anonymous Hey Beanie babies. Thanks so much for being a beacon in our darkness and making swearing de rigor. I'm learning French. I want to give a shout out to my brother. Totally probably butchered that, by the way. I wanted to give a shout out to government programs that are hanging on by a thread partly due to the hard work of their employees and our Oregon State government. Thanks to Medicaid, my darling daughter who has complications from an inoperable brain tumor and difficult baby deliveries and the two darling results of said deliveries have good medical care. Even though her hubby has a master's degree and a good job, he doesn't make enough in this wealthiest industrialized country to afford medical insurance for them all. That's, uh, just. Yeah, says M a lot right there. Also, thank the gods for the Head Start programs. Thanks to them, our youngest grandson who was born at 34 weeks got special in home attention. And now both he at age 2 and his big brother, 4, almost 5 are in tuition free preschool as all children should receive. Here they are on their first day of school, happy, healthy and raring to go. Thanks for all you do. Look at these adorable photos.
They are so cute.
Oh my goodness sakes. Thank you so much. Anonymous yes.
All right. This is from Rebecca Pronouns. She and her hi Beans Queens. Today I have a shout out to a local community in Richmond, Virginia, Dory Park Farmers Market. It's full of the most wonderful venues and patrons. The market features a Snap Match program for fresh produce and a kids club offering crafts and samples of new fruit or veggies each week. If a kiddo tries the fruit veggie of the week, they get a voucher for the vendor supplying them that week. They also have theme days such as Teacher Appreciation where they gave out mini bouquets, Family day, Wellness Day with free events and cooking classes. It makes a huge difference to the community. My pod pet Tax my cat Moon Cake in his Moon Cake in his default position. Yes, he is a floppy as he looks.
Oh my God Moon. His face. He's like cutie. I have to know how you got the name Mooncake Rebecca. I really do. Next up from Nicholas. Hey Beans Queens. I just had the most amazing weekend ever in my life. I was lucky enough to attend Camp Lost Boys in Sandy, Oregon over Labor Day weekend. Clb Camp Lost Boys is a summer camp for trans men. Amazing.
Uh.
186 trans guys in community playing like the boys many of us never got to be.
Oh my gosh.
In our youth we spent time with traditional camp activities like archery, high ropes and lots of hiking. But we also had community chats on healthy masculinity, relationships and the most incredible Elders Circle where we got to hear some history of trans men through the centuries as well as more recent lived experience. We had campers aged 18 to 84.
This is amazing.
I never got to go to camp when I was a kid and this was the most magical combination of play and coming home. Gatherings like this are becoming more important in these times where we feel like the world is hating on us when all we want to do is live our lives. A big shout out to camp Lost Boys staff and specifically Rocco K. I love you all so much. For my pod pet tariff, I'm sending a pic of my distinguished old man goob. He's 13 this month. I adopted him when he was 11.
Aww.
Uh. And he's the most wonderful easy dog I've ever had. The second picture is me and Jameson Green, author, one of our incredible elders from Camp Shout out to the amazing men I got to know who helped me heal and rediscover my joy in being alive. Thank you so much for all you do. You help me get through the days when I'm not playing like a 12 year old with all of my brothers from camp.
Oh. Uh, my God. And look how cute and handsome the two of you are.
I'm dying right now. I'm m chilling.
I know.
I have to look into this Camp Lost Boys. I want to donate.
This is awesome.
Uh, the whole thing about playing like the boys many of us never got to be, you know.
Yeah. You guys are so cute. I know. I love you two good looking men here.
And the dog.
Oh, I know. Thank you so much. Okay. That filled my chest up. Thank you very much. This is from Corey. Pronoun. She and her Corey. I like the way you spell your name by the way, if everyone. It's C O R E e pronoun. She and her Corey. I've been listening since I found you in January and I haven't missed an episode since that first day. You've been a sanity saver and I can't thank y' all enough. Shout out to government programs that have touched my life. My father passed away when I was 12 from cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure during his military service in Vietnam. During his almost three years of cancer treatment at the va, thanks to a years long fight by other similarly situated veterans, covered a significant amount of the cost of his treatment. After his passing, my brother and I received Social Security survivors benefits. That along with my mother's VA benefits allowed my now widowed mom to keep a roof over our heads, shoes on our feet, food in our bellies. A combination of my state's lottery scholarship and VA education assistance allowed me to be the first in my family to get a college degree and I was able to graduate debt free. I graduated in 2008. Not ideal. And in that year my husband, who worked in construction at the time, quickly found himself with too few jobs to sustain us. We were able to get a government program to get our mortgage modified M which enabled us to keep our home. We were also able to utilize the SNAP program for a short time and get Medicaid coverage for our then 2 year old to ensure he had ah, the health care he needed when we couldn't afford it. Otherwise, that Medicaid was the best coverage we've ever had. And as a side note, I gleefully buy into Medicaid or Medicare instead of private insurance if only the government would let me. Here's to hoping that will be an option someday. If not the norm, my pot pet tariff is of our 12 year old yellow lab rhino and um, a producer put in a little note. Probably named after Ryne Sandberg, may rest in peace, he was named after my husband's favorite baseball player. Yep. But turns out the name fits because he's always been a clumsy lunkhead of a dog who's totally unaware of his rather large size and the space he takes up and always makes me think the phrase should have been like a rhino in a china shop. Also in the pictures, a random cat that just strolled in through our dog door one cold winter day, stayed for about a week availing himself of all the amenities and then strolled right on back out again. And my youngest, who's also is availing herself of the amenities. The dog may be a lunkhead, but he's a sweetheart of a lunkhead who thankfully doesn't mind sharing. Thanks again for all you do and always can't wait for tomorrow's show to drop. The good news makes my day.
Oh uh, man, great submission Corey.
This cat snuck in through the dog door, took the dog's dog bed and the dog's like, well, I guess this is where I sleep now and just let it happen.
Typical.
It's amazing.
Oh, Rhino is adorable, Corey. We have a lot in common. My dad passed when I was 16 from cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure. And we were able to make it by because of the VA and Social Security benefits. I went to college, but we didn't have the same kind of educational benefits for survivors of veterans. So after I ran out of money for after two and a half years, I had to join the military so I could finish college. But, um, Corey, thank you so much and thanks to your whole family for their service. All right, our last submission is from Dennis. Pronouns, he and him. I live in Minneapolis, Dennis. Minneapolis is one of my favorite cities in the whole country. I grew up near Annunciation Church. I know people affected by this shooting. When I first heard the news, it was reported. We don't know much about the shooter at this time. I don't know why, but when I heard that, my first thought was, we know he wasn't a member of a well regulated militia. I'd like to see journalists ask questions like, is there any evidence the shooter was a member of a well regulated militia? Or say things like, this shooter who was not a member of a well regulated militia. You know how the right wing media always seems to echo the same catchphrases, like, they all got the same memo. I'd like to send a memo to our people. Always ask after any shooting whether the shooter was a member of a well regulated militia. If not, why the fuck do they need an arsenal? Yeah, well put, Dennis. Well put. They always leave out that well regulated militia part when they talk about the second amendment, don't they?
They sure do.
All right, everybody, thank you so much for sending in your good news. Really, uh, great submissions today. If you have some good news you want to send to us, it's DailyBeansPod.com click on Contact. If you want to become a patron, you can do so@patreon.com Melashirote and we're just so glad you're here. And, uh, we'll be back in your ears tomorrow with more news as it happens. Dana, do you have any final thoughts?
I do not. All right.
I'm also sending all the strength and power from, like, my soul to the Epstein survivors, who, yes, are going to be testifying and. And, well, not testifying at Congress, but talking and sharing their experiences, their lived experiences at that press conference. It's one of the hardest things to.
Do I can imagine, my friend.
And I'm so, so very proud of them all. Right, everybody, we'll be back on your ears tomorrow. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health, and take care of your family. I've been ag.
