Um, MSW Media Media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Monday, April 21, 2025. Today, the Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from flying another group of Venezuelan nationals to El Salvador. Senator Van Holland secured a meeting with Abreco Garcia during his trip to El Salvador. In the fallout from the disastrous continuing resolution that was voted on to advance by 10 Senate Democrats has left D.C. in the lurch. The FDA is preparing to end food safety inspections. That's great. Women and minorities were targeted in a National Institutes of Health purge. A ah US born man from Georgia is being held for ICE under Florida New anti immigration law. Marco Rubio has admitted the Trump administration can't end the war in Ukraine. Immigrants prove that they are alive, forcing the Social Security Administration to remove them from the death file. Trump's IRS commissioner has been replaced again. A judge has ordered the return of Tufts student Rumiesa Oz Turk from Louisiana to Vermont. Another federal judge has ruled the Trump administration's policy eliminating the non binary option for passport holders is likely an equal protection violation. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled that Governor Evers can go ahead with his 400 year plan for funding schools. Another three of Kegseth's top advisors have been fired. Trump officials claim their attack on Harvard was a mistake. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed a bill requiring local law enforcement to assist ICE. And the six men that forcibly removed Dr. Teresa Baron Pole from a Coeur d'alene town hall have been arrested and charged. I'm Alison Gill.

And I'm Dana Goldberg.

Dana, that's a new record for headlines from a weekend.

Well done. And a nice mixed bag there. Yeah.

We have nine good news stories which I've highlighted in green, and seven bad news stories which I've highlighted in red.

So that's what you did. Well done. Well done.

Yeah, we had a better weekend than. Not quantitatively at least.

So we'll take it.

Congrats.

I had a fun show. I had a fun show. Uh, I know there was a couple beans in the audience. I don't wanna name anyone in particular, but the lovely woman who came to me after the show and gave me such a sweet, uh, homemade G, um, who found us through her sister, and she is raising two trans kids in this very dark time, was, uh, just so sweet and lovely and so thank you for coming to say hi. It was so nice. I got to make people laugh. And it was a ruckus show. Gina killed and the other comedians did, too. There was, like, four of us that did time in front of her. Everyone rocked. And then the end of it was just a joyful ruckus music, um, extravaganza that Gina does. Cause she always has some DJs at her show. So for those of you that were there, thank you for coming and supporting. And for those of you, you or not, there's gonna be more shows in the future. You're gonna have other opportunities.

Amazing. Yeah. For any shows that you are interested in seeing Dana perform at coming up, you can check out danagoldberg.com for all the details. And of course, follow Dana everywhere on social media. G Comedy.

Thank you. I would love to.

Do you have anything else besides DG comedy on?

No, it's all. I tried to streamline it. So it's DG comedy on Instagram. Blue Sky. I'm sorry, but I'm still on Facebook. Uh, and there's reasons. And Alice and I have talked about this with some of the listeners. If we take off our, uh, accounts from Twitter and Blue sky or Twitter and Facebook, someone can create one with our names and pretend to be us. And so we're sort of sitting on those to make sure that they're safe.

Yeah, that and. And bookers still rely on Facebook and Twitter followers to book people. So, um, uh, that's, you know, just the way of it, I guess. But, yeah. Please follow DG Comedy. I'm. I'm Mueller. She wrote pretty much everywhere. You can follow me, uh, as well. All right, we have so much news to get to today. We're going to try to get through all of it. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, some crazy went down in Texas over the weekend. So all week, last week, tracking the tail numbers on the ICE fleet of planes. You could see they're trying to hide them, but, you know, we can still find them. You could see several flights from the Southern District of Texas to the Northern District of Texas. As it turns out, Trump was moving Venezuelan nationals from the Southern District to the Northern District to Blue Bonnet, probably because there's a temporary restraining order blocking the deportation of the putative class to El Salvador in the Southern District. Right. So they're, you know, it's a shell game for them. M. So lawyers saw that hundreds of men were being put on buses window, like, with their windows blacked out from Blue Bonnet, headed to the airport in the Northern District, where there's no temporary restraining order to stop the Trump administration. So they called the lawyers, called for an emergency hearing with Judge Boberg in D.C. asking for a temporary restrain order. They Also put in emergency temporary restraining order requests with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. Now, uh, Boasberg held an emergency hearing on Friday, but ultimately decided he could not issue a TRO because he doesn't have jurisdiction. That's the exact reason the Supreme Court vacated his other two temporary restraining orders previously. Uh, he. He was, uh, sad about that. Like, he's like, I wish I could do more, but the Supreme Court has said that habeas petitions have to be filed in the district where plaintiffs are being detained. I'm in D.C. they're in Northern, the Northern District. So it has to be done there. And the temporary restraining order was on the docket, but hadn't been dealt, uh, with. But miraculously, in the middle of the fucking night, the Supreme Court blocked the flights from leaving the Northern District. They wouldn't have had to do that if they'd kept their fucking noses out of this whole thing in the first place and didn't kill the ability to make nationwide injunctions. Uh, but there's a lot going on with the Supreme Court order, including the fact that it implies that the High Court no longer trusts what Trump's DOJ lawyers are saying in court, and also whether Alito actually referred this to the full court because, you know, he's the guy who sits atop the Fifth Circuit.

Yeah.

Uh, whether he referred it to the Supreme Court or whether they took it from him, we don't know because the wording is kind of weird. But Andy and I are going to go over that with experts on next week's Unjustified podcast, and that's where we'll be covering all Abrego Garcia and Alien Enemy's act proceedings from now on.

Okay, wonderful. Um, also speaking of Abrego Garcia, Senator Van Hollen, we had talked about them in previous episodes. He's a fantastic senator. He was first told by Bukele in El Salvador that he was not going to be able to meet with Abrego Garcia, but he eventually was given that meeting. So according to the reports, Abrego Garcia told the Senator he was moved from CECOP to a lower security prison nine days earlier. Interesting. Which is interesting, like I said, because that. Ah, just six days earlier, Trump's DOJ told the court in a declaration under penalty of perjury, by the way, that Abrego Garcia was at sea code, and he wasn't there when they said this. So either that Affiant was lying or was given the wrong information. We can deduce what we think.

You choose.

You choose but we do know with everything, you know, people, what do you think is the answer? We do now have proof though, that there is proof of life this man is still alive. Which I think shocks a lot of us. I didn't want to say it out loud, um, but that proof that diplomacy and pushback, it works. It works. Now we need to bring him home along with everyone else that's being illegally imprisoned in uh, El Salvador. And we have got to stop the government from as they quote, disappearing anyone else in cecoat. And I think the reason they're using disappearing is so that there's not some legality around it because let's call this what it is. It's kidnapping, which is actually a law that, that can, can be broken. But disappearing, I think they're just throwing that around. They disappeared. We don't know. Well, it's better.

Well, it's, it's, you know, we say they're disappearing people instead of deporting. Because this isn't deporting.

That's how they're using it instead. Not in place of kidnapping. Because that is what they're doing without due process.

Yeah, precisely. Um, so I guess disappearing is better than deporting.

Understood.

And kidnapping is better than disappearing.

Hearing. Okay, got it.

Got. Concentration camp is prison, you know, so, uh, but yeah, that's, this is not just about one man, you know. Okay, so you remember the March 15th continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown that 10 Democrats voted to advance, including Chuck Schumer. And many in D.C. were worried because there's a 1.1 billion dollar cut to D.C. funding education, police, etc, that was in that bill. But Schumer's like, don't worry about it. Don't worry about it.

Mhm.

Uh, we'll pass another bill to undo that part of the resolution. And the Senate did. But the Post is reporting that D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered what she calls extraordinary measures, including an immediate hiring freeze and a plan to furlough city employees and um, close government facilities because House lawmakers are failing to take up the legislation that would fix the $1.1 billion hole in the district budget before leaving on a two week break. In her seven page order Tuesday, Bowser said while officials still hope the House will pass a D.C. budget fix later this month, the city can no longer wait to plan for the possibility of drast stick cuts or hold up its 2026 budget process. I guess something that uh, Schumer didn't think about ahead of time.

Yeah, you know, I feel like sometimes there's some balls dropped on, um, at Schumer's end, uh, as of late, guy's mhm. Done some good stuff. I just, you know, I want some, some, I want some more power coming from our, our leadership. That's all. Um, yeah, we all do.

We need more Van Hollens, you know, we need more AOCs.

We need more, we need more Crockets and Pritzkers. Um, this next story is a little terrifying for anyone who eats food. So there you have it. This is from cbs. The Food and Drug Administration is drawing up plans that would end most of its routine food safety inspections at work. Multiple federal health officials, they told this to CBS News and effectively outsourced this oversight to state and local authorities. Now, state and local authorities, I think we can make a guess on which states are going to be paying much more attention to the food processes. I just, I think we can. I think we do. Now it's unclear what would happen for the states that do not have contracts with the FDA to conduct food inspections.

I think it's pretty clear what'll happen in those states.

A lot of people are going to get sick is what's going to happen. Steep layoffs at, uh, the Office of Support Staff is expected to result in cutbacks to the number of inspections that can be done by the agency. CBS News previously reported. That's what they're. The story's been going on for a little while. The FDA Commissioner Marty Mccery M has also greenlighted plans to hire contractors. Contractors to attempt to plug the hole that was left by the layoff of federal workers. Now that's Republican speak, by the way, for privatization.

So let's lay off the experts that have been doing it for a long time that cost less and then have our friends, uh, we'll pay our friends to send contractors that uh, that don't have any experience, uh, that cost more money.

Cool. That's exactly it.

Cool. Privatization. All right, next up from the post, 38 of 43 experts cut last month from the boards that review the science and research that happens in laboratories at the National Institute Institutes of Health are female, black or Hispanic. That's according to an analysis by the chairs of a dozen of the boards. 6% of white males who serve on the boards were fired, compared with half of black and Hispanic females and a quarter of all females, according to the analysis of 36 black and Hispanic board members, close to 40% were fired, compared with 16% of white board members. The chair's analysis calculated the likelihood that this would have happened by chance as 1 in 300. This was on purpose. And I think we can all see the writing on the wall there. This is the white ification of the federal government. It is segregation, uh, disguised as reverse dei.

Yeah. By the way, reverse racism is not a thing. That's a psa. Write it down. Tell your friends. This next story is from the Georgia Recorder. Juan Carlos Lopez Gomez, a 20 year old US citizen. That's a very important part of the story, was being held in the Leon County Jail Thursday, charged with illegally entering Florida as an authorized alien. And that's their words. Even as a supporter waived his U.S. birth certificate in court. Now, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrested Lopez Gomez after a traffic stop in which he was a passenger. The 20 year old is set to remain in jail for the next 48 hours, waiting for federal immigration officials to pick him up, despite his first degree misdemeanor charge being dropped.

Oh.

Yep. Leon County Judge Lashawn Riggins held Lopez Gomez's birth certificate up to the light after community advocate Sylvia Alba silently waved the document in the courtroom. Quote, in looking at it and feeling it and holding it up to the light, the court can clearly see the watermark to show that this is indeed an authentic document. This person was born in the United States. And based on her inspection of his birth certificate and Social Security card, Riggins said she found no probable cause for the charge. However, the state prosecutor insisted the court lacked jurisdiction over Lopez Gomez's release because U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement had formally asked the jail to hold him. That's not how this works. And I quote, this court does not have any jurisdiction other than what I've already done. That's what Reagan said. Now, Riggins, um, she also was very apologetic. As you know, his. His mother left the courtroom. I mean, she did what she. She can in this situation.

Yeah, they're coming in and waving their supremacy claws around.

Yeah, I think that's, uh. I think you mean the white supremacy clause.

Yeah. So sorry. The white supremacy clause.

Thank you.

Next up from the Post. Remember when we talked about the Trump regime moving migrants to the Social Security death file?

Yep.

Well, immigrants who are falsely labeled dead by the Social Security Administration have been showing up at field offices with documents to prove they're alive, leading staff to reinstate nearly three dozen people over the past week. So they're going into the Social Security Administration and waving their birth certificates around? No, to, you know, to show they're.

Like, hello, you know, I'm still here. We're alive. I don't want this one. He's not dead yet. I'm, uh, not dead yet. I'm not dead. I'm feeling quite well.

He's only mostly dead.

We're just mixing up movies now, by the way.

Yeah, sorry, uh, but this is just insane to be put on the death file and then have to go in and prove that you're not dead by, I guess, standing there and being alive.

Yeah.

Uh, these. The staff now are reinstating, uh, at least three dozen people over the last week. The immigrants who've requested reversal and been reinstated in Social Security databases, including a Haitian asylum seeker and a child. According to the record, some immigrants have shown up with driver's licenses and work permits to prove their legitimacy. Others have arrived bearing letters of notification that they received from their states declaring them dead. This is the old Republican culture of no, by the way. They do this at the VA under Republican administrations. They just deny all the claims and then make you jump through hoops.

Yep.

Right. To prove it. That's what this is. It's. We called it at the VA for over a decade, we called it the culture of no.

Wow.

And it only happens with Republican administrations.

Yeah. Um, speaking of, this one's from the post, President, um, Trump has replaced acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service again after his appointment just days earlier set off a power struggle between Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and the billionaire Elon Musk. Five people, by the way, with knowledge of this change. That's what they said Friday. Mr. Bessant's deputy. This is Michael Falkender. He's going to be the new acting leader at this point, replacing Gary Shapley. The Treasury Department confirmed that on Friday. Now, Mr. Folk, Falkender will do the third. He'll be the third acting leader of the agency this week in seven days, people. Impressive.

Replacing Gary Shapley.

Shapley, yeah.

Uh, that's, by the way, the guy who testified with Jim Jordan and Jim Comer from the IRS about Hunter Biden.

Oh, God.

Remember that guy?

Yeah, that guy. Wow. They did him. He did them a favor. And look what they did to him. Put him right under the bus. Mr. Besson had complained to Mr. Trump m this week that Mr. Musk had done an end run around him to get Mr. Shapley installed in the interim head of the IRS. Oh, my God. They saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors. I guess it's pretty serious. Even though, by the way, the tax collection agency reports to Mr. Bessent, and this is people familiar with that situation. They spoke on the condition of anonymity of course they did. So that, you know, people don't come after them, because apparently that's what happens to discuss this private conversation. But Mr. Besant complained to Mr. Trump this week that Mr. Musk had done an end run around him to get Mr. Shapley installed as the interim head of the IRS.

Three IRS commissioners in a week. I wonder what Scaramucci thinks.

Yeah, they beat him totally by, like.

7, 3, 3 and 1. Scaramucci. Next up from the Times. We'll see. Maybe the fourth guy will get ousted before 11 days are up. Who the fuck knows? This, uh, is from the Times. The United States will abandon efforts to end the war in Ukraine if it proves impossible to broker meaningful progress in the next several days. That's according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio in remarks that piled pressure on Kiev as he departed Paris on Friday. Quote, if it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we have to move on. That's what Rubio told reporters a day after meeting with Emmanuel Macron of France, adding that the Trump administration would decide, quote, in a matter of days whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks. Pretty sure he said it was doable the first day.

Yeah. We all know how this is going to end up.

Of course. It was always going to be this way.

Yep. It really was. Smoke and mirrors, people. Smoke and mirrors. This one's from the Associated Press. Three former senior advisors to Defense Secretary Pete Kegseth decried on Saturday that they called baseless attacks after each was escorted from the Pentagon. Yep. In an expanded probe on information leaks. Uh, this is such a great way to distract from the fact that he put war plans in a fucking signal chat. Yep. Dan Caldwell, a Kegseth aide, Colin Carroll, Chief of Staff to Deputy Defense Secretary Steven Feinberg, and Darren Selnick, Kegseth's deputy chief of staff. They were all among four officials in Kegseth's inner circle who were ousted this past week. While the three initially had been placed on leave pending investigation, a joint statement shared by Caldwell on Twitter said that three were, and I quote, incredibly disappointed by the manner in which our service at the Department of Defense ended unnamed. Uh, Pentagon officials have slandered our character with baseless attacks on our way out the door.

Oh, your character? No. Oh, no. This is like this, uh, would be like if. If Kavanaugh hired Tobin and Squee to be Supreme Court clerks and then they had to be escorted out of the building.

Our character.

Oh, yes, our good names. Okay, next up, from the Times. Harvard University. Harvard received an emailed letter from the Trump administration last Friday that included a series of demands about hiring, admissions, and curriculum so onerous that school officials decided they had no choice but to take on the White House. The university announced its intentions on Monday, setting off a tectonic battle between one of the country's most prestigious universities and the president. Then almost immediately came a frantic call from a Trump official. The April 11 letter from the White House's Task Force on Anti Semitism. The official told Harvard, shouldn't have been sent. It was unauthorized. We're super sorry. That's according to two people familiar with the matter around. Find out, you know, like, you know, what happened. Maybe somebody did a little math like I did and told, uh, the Trump administration that you've just done some illegal to a university that 40% of the judges in the district graduated from. I also checked the Circuit Court, First Circuit Court of Appeals. 40% of those judges graduated from Harvard, too. And, uh, four of the nine Supreme Court justices, including Chief Justice Roberts, went to Harvard.

So, yeah, also well done, actually, getting progressives and Democrats to all agree and rally behind Harvard University.

I just keep thinking of trading, uh, places. He was wearing my Harvard tie. Guy like, oh, sure, he went to Harvard. And, uh, that. And, of course, um, Legally Blonde.

Yeah.

This. You got into Harvard Law School. Yeah. Like, it's hard.

Yeah, it's hard.

So great. Um, but, yeah. Oh, it's just a mistake. We're super sorry. Uh, yep, Harvard.

I love all these places that are pushing back. I hope more people do it because it's making them really weak. Really weak. Uh, we've got some good news. This one's out of Arizona. Democratic Governor Kitty Hobbs on Friday vetoed a Republican back act bill intended to support the Trump administration's immigration crackdown by requiring local and state officials in Arizona to cooperate with federal enforcement efforts.

See, if you don't get convicted on a bunch of bribery and fraud charges and then try to dismiss your charges with prejudice, you don't have to deal with this shit. You can just veto the bill. Yeah, yeah.

And now, under that proposal, local and state officials couldn't prohibit or restrict cooperation with federal immigration efforts to block the use of federal databases and grant funds related to immigration enforcement. It also would force cooperation on immigration detainers, and that's request from the federal government to hold on to people that are already in state custody until immigration authorities could pick them up. And I quote, Mrs. Katie, I will continue to work with the federal government on, um, true border security, but we should not force state and local officials to take marching orders from Washington. Well said governor Hobbs. Yeah, that was in her veto letter.

Yeah. Good job. And it's also unconstitutional, the commandeering thing. You can't just have the feds come in and commandeer your local police force and make them do your fed stuff.

Nope.

Um, I don't know that the supreme Court would agree with that. So good job with your veto pen there, Governor Katie Hobbs. More good news. Tufts university student Rumesa Oz Turk must be transferred to Vermont while her lawsuit challenging the federal government's detention of her as it seeks her deportation continues. That's according to a federal judge and their order. On Friday, Oz Turk was arrested by plainclothes officers. This was that terrifying video, some of them wearing, some of them wearing masks. On March 25 outside her apartment near the Massachusetts university. And she was transported to a detention facility in Louisiana via, uh, an airport in Vermont. And her lawyers were like, she, this has to be heard in Vermont, not Louisiana, not in the fifth circuit. And they won that argument.

So that's wonderful. Yep. And we've got even more good news. Everyone. Hold on to your hat. Listen, this, what, three in a row? This is from cbs. A federal judge on Friday partially blocked the Trump administration from enacting a policy that bans the use of x marker used by many, many non binary people on passports, as well as the changing of gender markers. This was a disaster. Right after he got elected, so many people had already put in their paperwork and the federal government. This. The agency kept it or damaged it. It. Yeah.

Because you had to send in your old passport.

Yes.

And they didn't get them back.

This is a big deal. U. S. District judge Julia Kobic, who was appointed by Joe Biden. Thank you for this one. Sided with the American civil liberties Union. That motion for a preliminary injunction, which stays the action while the lawsuit plays out. It requires the state department to allow six transgender and non binary people who are plaintiffs in the lawsuit to obtain passports with sex designations consistent with their gender identity. The ruling, however, only covers those six plaintiffs in the lawsuit. But if they win this, that sets precedent. And other people will sue, which is wonderful. And hopefully eventually they'll just be like, this whole fucking thing is unconstitutional. You've got to stop doing this.

Yeah, yeah. And this is probably. I don't know if this is another instance of judges, district judges being chilled against issuing nationwide restrictions.

Yeah, it could be.

Yeah. Who knows? But, uh, we'll, you know, we'll keep an eye on that. It's Very good news. Also some great news. Um, we covered this a long time ago on the beans when Governor Evers changed a, ah, one year funding plan to a 400 year education funding plan using his veto pen. Here's an update on that story from the Post. This the sentence, dull but clear, was buried 158 pages into Wisconsin's budget quote for the limit for the 2023-2024 school year and the 2024-2025 school year. The sentence read when it was passed by Republican controlled legislature. Add $325 to the amount school districts could generate through property taxes for each student for those two years. 2024, 2025. But by the time Governor Tony Evers, a Democrat, and his veto pen were finished, it said something else entirely. It said for the limit for 2023 to 2425, add $325.

Oh, wow.

Student. It was clever, creative, perhaps a bit subversive. Extending the increase four centuries longer than lawmakers intended. But was it legal? On Friday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court says yes in a 4 to 3 ruling in a lawsuit challenging Ever's use of his partial veto authority. The court's liberal majority said the governor had acted legally. The three conservative justices on the court dissented and can go fuck themselves.

And that's why the supreme court election mattered. 1.

Good job, everybody. Crawford and, uh, Prote Woods. Fantastic. That's been going on for years.

Yeah, I am. I'm ending this segment with more good news, even though it's from a horrifying story. But do y'all remember the six men who assaulted Dr. Teresa Baron Pool at. At Coeur d'alene Town hall in Idaho? They dragged her out.

Yeah, I remember that.

Uh, yeah. We have an amazing update from Idaho. This is Idaho six News. Just one week after its recommendation, the Coeur d'alene City Attorney's office, they have filed charges against six men who were involved in that forced removal of a woman at the Kootenay County Town hall in February. Now on Friday, the Coeur d'alene City Attorney's office, they shared the names of the involved men and their listed charges, which is awesome. With Idaho News 6, we've got Paul Tourette. I almost called him Tourette. It's true. Probably Paul is getting battery, false imprisonment, security agent, uh, uniform violation, security agent, duties violation. We've got Russell Dunn. Also battery, false imprisonment, security agent, uniform violation, security agent, duties violation, Jesse Jones. Also the same ones, we've got Christopher, uh, Burge. Battery, false imprisonment, security agent, uniform Violation. Security agent duties violation. Alex Chouette. Uh, the fourth. So that might be related to Paul.

It is.

Which is interesting that. Yep. We've got security agent uniform violation and security agent duties violation. So not as many on him. And then we've got Michael Keller, who has been charged with battery.

Now the security agent uniform violation. You'll remember we reported on this, Dana.

Yep.

You have to have a one inch tall lettering thing on your front of you and a four inch tall lettering, uh, on the back of your clothes or uniforms that indicate that you're a security officer. None of these guys had those.

Nothing, I think, was plain T shirts.

Yeah. And because of all of the white supremacy that happens in Coeur d'alene, they pass these laws for. For these very reasons. Seasons.

So good.

I'm very glad to see all of these get charged.

Me too.

And remember when they were trying to charge her because she bit an officer? They dropped those charges.

Yep. I hope she wins a lot of money. A lot of money.

We'll see if she sues.

Yeah, actually, yeah, we'll see what she wants to do with that. But hopefully they. They either get fired or jail time or both.

Yeah. Bankrupt these. All right, everybody. Uh, the good trouble today is subsumed in the good news. And we'll be right back with it. Stick around after these messages.

We'll be right back.

Everybody. Welcome back. It's time for the good news everyone. Then good news everyone. M Good news. Go to DailyBeansPod.com click on Contact and that's how you submit your good news. First up from Batgirl pronoun she and her this is a shout out to my British partner of Indian ethnicity, Ed, who recently visited me in the Midwest. United States. Yes, we're long distance for now. Now I had a bat conference in India. I'm a bat biologist.

That's amazing.

Oh, that's so cool. And brought him along for the ride. While we were there, we found out that one of our partners was losing some of their funding, partly because they had been supported by usaid. Unfortunately, they're just one of several in wildlife conservation facing cuts or job losses lately. To process the bad news, Ed and I went out to a small town bar with our our boss. Over the course of a couple of drinks, I started catching bits of political conversations. The topics hit close to home, so I ended up jumping into a few of them. I do this all the time, especially because it seemed like folks didn't fully grasp the impact of what was happening. Long story short, this is me giving a big shout out to Ed for backing me up as I took on the role of spicy rattlesnake. Their words, not mine. He even jumped into a few conversations himself. Naturally, everyone loved his British accent, and we're happy to have him there. I made sure to be respectful to listen and hear out perspectives different from my own. But I also spoke with passion how these poorly planned funding cuts are hurting real people. I have an equally spicy cat that I picked up from Finland, but I think a photo of a big brown bat is appropriate to share with this story. They're small animals who do great things for people, but are often seen as scary and tend to be associated with disease, sometimes unfairly. They also have big personalities. Wildlife folks are just trying to keep the environment, our home, protected so that we can coexist.

Look at that little one right there.

Baby bats. Release the bats. Release them now.

I love bats. Cute.

Thank you, Batgirl. That is so cool. I love the one where the bats are hanging upside down and then they turn them over and it looks like they're dancing in a golf club. Yeah, I love bats.

Me too. All right, this is from Deb Pronoun. She and her hello AG and dg. I want to give a shout out to my sister Diana. Like the Roman D warrior goddess of hunt and domestic animals. She suggested this podcast to me earlier this year and I am so thankful to hear from you both every day. I'm excited for her, her partner Tam, and my other sister to visit us in our new home in Albuquerque, Dana's hometown, New Mexico, next week. We're very happy that we moved from Missouri, a hotbed of super Republican bullshit, to more purple State.

I would also love that Missouri. That should be there on their license plate.

Yeah.

Hotbed of super Republican bullshit.

Bullshit.

Yeah.

I would also like to recommend a follow of Jess Piper. She's a former K through 12 educator in Missouri who is working hard to penetrate the Cheeto sphere. There's going to be a link to Jess in the show notes her substack. Apparently it's very, very good.

She's awesome.

Yep. For my POD pet tax, I give you the sweetest boy, B O I Bryce. We adopted him two weeks ago today and he's really the joy of our lives already. Oh, my God. Thank you both and the whole Beans team and for the great work you both do on the pod and. And all the work you do in the world. Hoping for better days ahead, but feeling dog tired right now about.

Oh, my God.

I know.

Oh, my God, this puppy. I can smell the puppy breath through the screen.

I mean, the puppy's fucking adorable.

I want this puppy.

Yep.

Thank you, Deb. It's interesting. We were a. Harry. Harry Dunn and I were on the Happy Hour Zoom Call that we host for patrons of this program and patrons of cleanup on aisle 45. If you want to become a patron, by the way, it's super cheap. It's like three bucks a month. You get ad free and you get to come to the Zoom calls and VIP p Ticket sales, pre sales and all that. You can do it@patreon.com Muller she wrote. But we were on that call and somebody was like, you should have Jess Piper on the show. I was like, I've m met her. She's amazing. And right then I messaged her. So I will keep you all posted to see if she wants to come on the Beans. I hope she does, um, because we absolutely love all the work she's doing in Missouri. Next up, from Max Nada, who was also on the call last Friday. No relation to Walt Nada, by the way. Hello, lovely ladies of the Laguma Audi, longtime listener, repeat poster of good news here. First of all, thanks so much for all that you do. I've been following you on all three podcasts for years now, and it feels good to hear your takes on what would otherwise be confusing or depressing news stories. I really enjoyed the Happy hour Zoom Call, but as I am in the Central European time zone, I couldn't stay up in order to ask my question. I'm so sorry, Max. I saw your hand go down. I was like, where'd Max go? The new segment, Good Trouble is extremely wholesome. And the political activist in me wants to participate. But to what extent is my meddling in US elections foreign interference? Since I'm not a constituent, I can't call any congress people. But I did write an email with the FOIA request, so I'm looking for clarity here. You know, I don't know, Max. I don't know what's considered a thing of value.

Yeah.

You know what I mean. And, and whether or not this. This administration would go after it. But you're not in this jurisdiction. I know you can't donate money, but I'm assuming you can call our senators and just be like, what the fuck? I'm in England. Fuck you, bro. Bro. Yeah, uh, I'm not sure though. I really am not. I. I'll see if I can look into that. In lieu of pod pet tariff, I give you these giant frogs which I found in Berlin. N all. Ah. I. I could. That looks like a really difficult word to say.

Yes.

N E, K O with an umlaut. Lln. Um, so you'll have to help me with that pronunciation, Max. I took German and I lived there, but I don't know what that word is. Although they're not in an orgy right now, they definitely give orgy participant energy. I want to close out with repeating my deep respect and gratitude for what you all do at MSW Media Media. Seriously, you have altered the way I perceive politics and has reduced my anxiety. Thanks for all that you and your amazing Leguminati do. It gives me hope to see the activism and demonstrations gaining momentum. And I want to support your fight to take back that beautiful country of yours in any way, shape or form that I can.

Nice.

Oh, uh, Max, thank you so much. Look at this giant frog.

It is a giant frog.

Yeah, they do look orgy prone.

Yeah. Mhm. That frog's getting something for sure. All right, this next one was from Bri. I think it could be Bry, but I think it's Bri pronoun. She and her hi beans queens. This is Bri from a few weeks back. Oh. With another environmental heads up.

Oh yeah, this is our good, good trouble, by the way, everyone.

The EPA and the Department of the army are currently exploring changing the definition of water water to see which water would qualify under the Clean Water Act.

They're trying to change the definition of water?

We're about to find out. Essentially not all water or wetlands would be under environmental protections. So some of this crucial places that are prone to flooding or are used to protect your homes could legally be dumped in scraped, out of or otherwise harmed. They're open for common until April 23rd. This is the good trouble everyone, April 23rd and I've provided a link below for listeners to use to learn more about so they can submit their own comments. Please submit comments asking for all water to be protected.

You know the H2O. You know the water?

You know that water? Yep, all the water. And also for my POD tariff, I've attached a photo of my cat. Jubilee should be 12 this year and has been with me since college. Including all the ups and downs and moves across the country. This distinguished lady has seen it all. She's currently living the slow life with pets and plenty of naps in the sun. She'll never have to open a Microsoft Office email. Thank you both for everything you're doing. With everything going on right now, you've helped me and others in keeping things a little more sane.

So that was funny. I thought you threw in the Microsoft email joke. No, that's Bri.

Yeah.

Oh, look at her beautiful eyes.

Gorgeous. Oh, cat's markings are beautiful.

I'm jealous. I want pets and naps in the sun.

I know, right?

I never have to open an email. That'd be great.

I'll take it.

Ah. Uh, thank you for that. Next up, anonymous pronoun she and her hello legumsters. Today, April 19th, I went to my second protest ever. I brought my stepbrother with me. See photo despite his disabilities, he's living his best life with the aid of Social Security and Medicaid waiver services. I worry, though, because the agency I found, uh, that takes great care of him is staffed mainly by immigrants. So far, they have not reported trouble with ice, though. I've included a picture from the protest which brought about 270 people in bright red Indiana for my tax I've included two pictures of my girl Ruby reclining with her dragon toy as a pillow. She is not a mixed breed. She's pretty typical for her breed, so it's not hard to guess she's an Australian cattle dog. Again, our producers fail to put the answers at the end of the photos. Look at this. This is so great. It's so great to see that many people turn out in these ruby red districts. And look at the pupper I know. Hi little baby.

It almost looks like a painting.

It does, right? There's something about the texture of the fur and the, uh. Very good. Yeah.

Thank you so much for this. Okay, we've got Maggie. Pronouns, she and her hi friends. I adore you and the beans So I went out to protest again Saturday. It was my second time ever at age 63. 3. Do not call me 64. My first protest was on the 5th in small town Cortland, New York, population 17,000 where we had over 300 turnout. That's about 1.7% of the population. This time I headed to even smaller Norwich, New York. That population is 6,500. We had 150 people. So if I do the math right, that's 2.3% of the population. Norwich is smaller and more right leaning. But the greater percentage of turnout on Easter weekend in the pouring rain no less. I think it's due to the awesome work of Norwich based Chenango. I hope I'm saying that right. Chenango change indivisible group. They're uh, very active, communicative, welcoming, friendly and upbeat. I want to give them a shout out for their excellent work. Hopefully I gave the right shout out. I keep thinking I should start a group in my tiny town of Cincinnatus. Cincinnatus. Cincinnatus. Uh, population 865. Mostly dairy farmers. Awkward place for a vegan to live. It's very trumpish here. I wonder if there are enough lefties around. I wouldn't know being an avowed hermit, but I'm going to put some out some feelers. I wouldn't be surprised right now with these farmers and you might find more than you expect. Yeah, my pop attacks today is the great blue heron, uh, who stalks my pond fish every summer. We have a love hate relationship. It's nearly as tall as I am. Stunningly beautiful. Just breathtaking. The fucking fish eating fuck.

Stunningly breathtaking fish eating fuck.

Yep, that is a very large heron.

It sounds like the mad Madam Mim. The magnificent, marvelous mad Madam Mim. The stunningly beautiful fish eating so good. The peculiar purple pie man. Porcupine Peak. Anyway, there's like 19 culture references there for you. Um, thank you everyone so much for your good news. I really needed it. Uh, although we were 56% good news, we should have some sort of rotten tomatoes rating for totally for headlines. We're 56% in the green today. 50, uh, 6% still an F, but it's better than less than half I think.

We'll take it.

Yeah, we'll take it. I'm so glad you had a great show on Saturday. I'm so glad some people got got out to laugh and have a good time. So that's just wonderful. Um, and, and I hope that, um, I hope that the headliner, uh, her house burnt down in Altadena. Yeah.

Yeah. And Jeanne Ashrae, she lost her house in Altadena. She is currently, um, spending part time in Toronto because she's filming Star Trek. And then she was smart enough to start to build a little compound in Costa Rica. So she does have a home to live in. It's just not the dream home that she built with her wife. And she's very smart though. She's keeping the life land. There's no way. And one day she's, she's gonna think about rebuilding and that's a big deal, especially in Altadena, that if people can keep the land, keep the land and make sure it stays local to Altadena.

Yeah, agreed, 100%. So thank you for that. Thank you for supporting her and, um, supporting live comedy, everybody. Appreciate you. And don't forget to send your good news to us. We need all of it. Flood us with the good news. You can do that@dailybeanspod.com click on Contact. You have any final thoughts today?

Not today.

Me neither. Everybody will be back in your ears tomorrow. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health and take care of your family.
