Dana. I would be kicked straight out of a comedy writer's room if I tried to come in with a story about a March for Life rally that ended up having a measles outbreak. I would be thrown the fuck out.
Yeah, they'd be like, nah, too on the nose. We need something more. Yeah, it wouldn't. I mean, not surprising, though. I'm not surprised at all.
They would say that's a lazy joke, Allison. Yeah, it's just lazy. It's just too obviously ridiculous. but here we are, so we're going to talk about that. First of all, thank you for covering for me yesterday.
Oh, my gosh, of course.
Happy to be back with you. today I am coming to you from Arizona, visiting my mom out here and doing, a little birthday celebration for her. Also watching the Super Bowl. And we're going to talk about that a lot over on the Beans Talk today. A lot of what happened during the super bowl, which I thought was pretty incredible, and I'm really glad that I got a chance to watch it. But yesterday, while I was gone on the show, you covered the fact that members of Congress are getting to review the unredacted Epstein files. And there's been more coming out today, including, I think it was Raskin confirming that some of these victims are as young as nine years old. And that obviously, as we knew, a lot of these are inappropriate redactions. And so I think over the coming. First of all, I thought, you're going to view all 3 million, which is only half of the Epstein files, and you have to review them in person, like in a skiff or whatever at the Justice Department, you're not going to be able to see them all. And they, in fact, said, Raskin said today it would take seven years to review everything that's in here. And this is only half.
Wow.
Of what's been released. So. But just absolutely abhorrent and horrific behavior, as we knew. Right, Dana? But to have it confirmed, have it, people see it with their own eyes is something else.
There was also an unredacted email that Trump, even though Epstein was never a member of Mar A Lago, he was a very welcome guest and Trump never threw him out, which is obviously in direct opposition to what Trump's been saying over and over and over, that he threw him out of his club after he stole Virginia Giuffri from him. So, you know, all of this stuff, I think the big thing is like, okay, now what, what are the fucking consequences going to be? I think that's what all of us are sitting here going, like, we already know. It's very clear the other side doesn't want to believe it. That's fine. This is all the evidence we need. Oh, and we've got the victim's testimony under oath. So how about that? Now what? Like, I want some arrests, I want some court hearings. I, want there to be consequences. I'm. It's infuriating.
Yeah. Well, until we get the House and the Senate back and get the gavel and get the majority in the committees that can investigate and have subpoena power, we're not going to any accountability from Congress because of Republicans stonewalling. And until we get an attorney general in the Department of Justice that is not Pam Bondi. I mean, literally, probably anybody but Merrick Garland would probably do a better job at going after the people in the Epstein files. He had an open and ongoing investigation that Trump shut down when he got there in January 2020 in the southern District of New York. But like, until we get that, you know, elections have consequences, man, and we just aren't going to see the consequences of 30 years of this cover up bullshit. Different administrations across the board.
Yeah, agreed.
Until we can get people in Congress who vow to do this, and not just whatever specific party, but somebody, you know, people who vow to hold these folks accountable. And we have to work toward that day. And in the meantime, the consequences have to be political. And that's kind of the best that we can hope for and result in the kind of elections that we need to actually have the power to seek accountability. And, you know, I think when we talk about, when we talk about all of the issues that are going on in this administration, it's just so overwhelming that we can barely, barely keep up. And, you know, I got a little bit of a piece of that when I interviewed Andrew Bakai, the lawyer for that Tulsi Gabbard whistleblower. She's been covering up a phone call at the nsa.
And so thank you everybody who watched that interview. It was probably one of the most important interviews I think I've done. But it's over on Mueller she wrote.com if you want to check it out. But there's just so much, like Raskin said, we could look at these Epstein files for seven years and not see them all. We could spend the next generation trying to hold this administration accountable for its crimes and never, ever see the end of it.

We have a lot of news to get to today, so let's hit the Hot notes. Hot Notes. First up from CBS. Less than 14% of nearly 400,000 immigrants arrested by ICE in Trump's first year back in the White House have charges or convictions for violent criminal offenses. And that's according to an internal Department of Homeland Security document obtained by CBS News. This is their own audit of themselves. The official statistics contained in a DHS document, which has not been previously reported publicly, provide the most detailed look yet into who ICE has arrested during the Trump administration's far reaching deportation operations across the U.S. the internal DHS figures undermined frequent assertions by the Trump administration that its crackdown on illegal immigration is targeting dangerous and violent criminals living in the US illegally, people Mr. Trump and his lieutenants have regularly referred to as the worst of the worst. Now, the statistics show ICE has dramatically increased arrests since Trump's return. Nearly 60% of ICE arrestees over the past year had criminal charges or convictions, the document indicates. But among that population, the majority of the criminal charges are not violent crimes. For example, when Trump and his aides often talk about immigration officials targeting murderers, rapists and gangsters, the internal data indicates that less than 2% of those arrested by ICE over the past year have homicide or sexual assault charges or convictions. Less than 2%. Another 2% of those taken into ICE custody were accused of being gang members. 2%. Nearly 40% of all those arrested in the first year back in office did not have any criminal record at all and were only accused of civil immigration offenses like living in the US Illegally or overstaying their permission to be in the country. Those alleged violations of U.S. immigration law are typically adjudicated by Justice Department immigration judges in civil, not criminal proceedings. So when Republicans say if you come here illegally, you're a criminal, that is untrue. These are civil proceedings, not criminal.
Right.
While Mr. Trump's deportation program enjoyed majority support during the 2024 campaign and in his early months in office. Public opposition to this crackdown has grown significantly because of concerns about agents tactics, especially in cities like Minneapolis and over who is being swept up by the operations. A CBS News poll last month found that Americans support for Trump's deportation efforts had fallen to 46%, down from 59% at the start of his second term. Just over 60% of those surveyed said immigration agents are being too tough. So that's 2% are gang members and less than 2% are murderers and rapists.
Yeah, there's more than that probably. And I'd hate to probably an ice. I mean, if I had to. If I had to guess.
There are the actual. The crime rates among CBP officers themselves are higher than that of immigrants, as are the crime rates of Trump's cabinet and the crime rates of January 6th. People who were pardoned. Yeah, all higher.
All right, thanks, Allison. This one's from Politico. The Justice Speaking of just a disgusting human. This is not Politico, but the Justice Department is seeking to erase the criminal conviction of longtime Trump adviser Steve Bannon for defying a 2021 subpoena from congressional investigators probing his role in the January 6th attack on the Capitol. In a motion signed by US Attorney I still want to call her box of wine even though someone told me she was sober. I don't buy it. Jeanine Pirro and without the signature of any career prosecutors, no career prosecutors would sign this. The Justice Department asked U.S. judge Carl Nichols to dismiss the two count indictment that the DOJ brought against Bannon more than four years ago. Nichols, who is a Trump appointee, presided over a week long jury trial of Bannon in 2022 that resulted in his conviction on criminal contempt charges. Federal prosecutors brought those charges in November of 2021 after the Democratic led house voted to hold Bannon in contempt. The January 6 select committee convened that year by Speaker Nancy Pelosi had subpoenaed Bannon to describe his contacts with key organizers of January 6th rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol that day. They also hope to learn details about his contacts with President Trump in his effort to subvert the results of the 2020 election. The end of the case is in some ways just symbolic. Bannon already served a four month prison sentence in 2024 for his conviction on the charges, but he has appealed his conviction to the Supreme Court, which was awaiting a response from the Justice Department before Monday's move by Pirro. If Nichols grants the Motion to dismiss. It would likely end the pending Supreme Court case and erase Bannon's jury conviction. Again, this was a jury conviction. It wasn't just a judge deciding now. Solicitor General John Sauer confirmed this goal in a brief filing to the justices Monday. And I quote, the government has determined in its prosecutorial discretion that dismissal of this criminal case is in the interest of justice. This is from Sauer. This is what he wrote, asking the justices to effectively erase lower court rulings that upheld Bannon's conviction and a conviction by the jury of his fucking peers. How about that? A spokesperson for the Justice Department didn't immediately respond for a request for comment.
I hope the judge. I know he's a Trump appointed judge, Judge Nichols, but I hope he's like, man, if you want to erase this, you're gonna have to pardon him.
Yeah, I hope so, too. Speaking of, this isn't the only fucking case that's pissing me off, Allison. It's the next one you're about to bring us. This one's making me even angrier.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. and the fact that the lawyer. Let me just get into it here. This is Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking minors, sent a clear message to Donald Trump Monday that if you were to grant her clemency, she would clear his name of any wrongdoing as it pertains to Epstein. So she can't. Otherwise.
Yeah, why not do it now? I mean, if you can clear him. Clear him. He's a guy that keeps his promises. Why not just give us what we want?
I mean, my God. All right. The extraordinary overture stated by Maxwell's lawyer Monday morning during her virtual deposition before House Oversight, ensures the Epstein saga will continue to remain a political hotspot. Quote, Ms. M. Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly of granted clemency by Trump. attorney David Oscar Marcus, who I've argued with on Twitter, said in a statement during the deposition, which he later posted on Twitter, only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters. For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Marcus also said that Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation, but we're not going to tell you the truth unless we get a pardon for the actual crime she committed. Okay, I added that bit to the end. Trump has not ruled out the possibility of pardoning Maxwell or commuting her sentence. Trump and Clinton, who appear throughout the files released by DOJ have denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein. House Oversight Chair Jim Comer called Maxwell's decision to plead the Fifth disappointing and said lawmakers had many questions to ask about the crimes she and Epstein committed, as well as questions about potential co conspirators. Democrats on the committee accused Maxwell of trying to buy her clemency by refusing to testify. Quote, we will not allow this silence to stand. That's Rep. Melanie Stansbury. When asked if he would subpoena Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick as part of the probe, Jamie Comer said he was going to focus on five depositions that he has coming up. So, no, we're not going to go after anybody in the Trump cabinet. We're going to drag the Clintons in. The Clintons are expected to appear behind closed doors later this month for depositions. I think the 26th and 27th February respectively.
I still will be shocked if they don't cancel them. I mean the Republicans, if, they don't post out on this.
But they're doing it behind closed doors. They don't really have any.

No, Clintons are still going to testify behind closed doors, but they are urging a public testimony. They won't get it. Comer won't give it to him. They'll drag. They'll drag him.

Health officials are warning that, confirmed cases of measles may have spread at where this year's National March for Life rally concert in Washington D.C. now I'm not laughing at people getting measles, but I am laughing at the just the hypocrisy and the, you know, I'm laughing at people that might be getting meeples at a march for life that don't seem to care about the life of children or people in this country. You know what I mean? Make America healthy again. Thousands of anti abortion demonstrators converged upon the National Mall and other locations in this nation's capital for the annual event at the end of January. The D.C. department of Health says it's working to identify people who are at risk. Quote, DC Health was notified of, ah, multiple confirmed cases of measles whose carriers visited multiple locations in the District while contagious. This is what the agency said in press release on Sunday. DC Health is informing people who were at these locations that there may have been exposed potential exposure sites from January 21 to February 2 include major transit such as Ronald Reagan, Washington National Airport, Union Station, Amtrak, Northeast Regional Train and DC Subway system. That's, according to the DC Health. And that sounds like a lot of people. The agency says infected individuals also visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. And Catholic University Children's National Hospital issued a public health notice concerning potential exposure in its emergency department. The notice said a Virginia resident who was confirmed to have measles visited the department while contagious on February 2. The US is dealing with its biggest measles outbreak in decades. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 733 confirmed measles cases in 20 states so far this year alone. As of last Thursday, according to CDC, 95% of the cases involved people who are unvaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown. South Carolina's outbreak started in October of 2025 and quickly surpassed an outbreak in Texas. Cases in South Carolina continue to grow. The Department of Public Health reported 44 new confirmed cases on Friday, bringing the total in the state to 920. Earlier last week, officials in the state reported that the rate of new confirmed cases has slowed. They warned that people may have been exposed in this latest round of new cases in several locations, including a, Target store in the Taylors of South Carolina and Social Administration in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The outbreak is centered in Spartanburg. Now, DC's health department is advising anyone possibly exposed who is not fully vaccinated or has a compromised immune system to contact the health department or healthcare provider.
And that's the thing that, that pisses me off. Right these March for Life people who just didn't get vaccinated or whatever, but it's the people who can't get the vaccine or immunocompromised, that are put at risk by these idiots that piss me off.

I myself don't have it in me to even contemplate how to begin such an enterprise. I have a full time job teaching little kiddos library science. That's very cool. And then I worked as a children's reference librarian evenings and weekends. I'm turning 65 this year, so I don't have a lot of free time, not a lot of energy and no brain space left. Ice sculpture built by veterans in front of Minnesota Capitol. Local government standing up for veterans and art. Hell yeah, we covered that yesterday in the beans talk. And man, what an embarrassing video, by the way, of that jackass. Yep. And then three. Yesterday, while I was buying groceries for friends, I noticed an older couple at my local Mexican grocery store. They both had their phones out at the deli counter reading unfamiliar items off a list. It seems they were buying groceries for neighbors. Oh, my. I've been a listener for a few years now, but never really wrote in until now. I have some good news and I wanted to share a way for fellow listeners to help those in the Minneapolis area. A month ago I had no desire to download Signal but the day Renee Goode was murdered, I downloaded the app and started learning all about the rapid response world that was going on in our city. I live in Richfield, a first ring suburb just south of Minneapolis and we've been hit hard by ice. You've all seen the video of the two boys taken from my local Target. And while Belvino is out, we're still seeing ice all around us. That following Monday, I attended my first small group meeting with other community members already working to create a network to help families within our city who've been directly impacted by Metro surge. Since then I've jumped into a lead role working on connecting volunteers to fulfill families needs. It's been so rewarding and encouraging to see how much support we have within our community to help our neighbors in need. Whether that's school patrol, mutual aid efforts, rides to work. We're all stepping up and helping each other and while we're all exhausted, we've grown closer. Closer as a community meeting neighbors we never knew we had before. And that's one bright spot in this whole clusterfuck. Currently our biggest request to need is to help with rent and utility bills. We got her on my birthday when she was three and a half months old and is my first dog ever. I appreciate the many years of good listening. I remember way back when, AG teased that, she might do a daily podcast, and I couldn't wait. Now I can't live without it. I wanted to share how happy I am to have moved to a beautiful blue state after more than 25 years of being disappointed in deep red Texas. Less than a year ago, I moved back to New Mexico. I really can't believe how life changing that move has proven to be. Instead of being heartbroken time and time again, I'm now able to rejoice as I tell people that we have free child care, college tuition paid if you graduate in state, and we are about to pass legislation that will ban ICE detention centers, and it's specifically those ones having a, federal government contract. Also, how did I ever live without mountains? I wanted to leave you all with my current mantra. You will not break me. For those of you that have not read Dungeon Crawler Carl yet, do it. It. It's an amazing series and much deeper than you might think. You will not break me is the catchphrase for the main character. And I feel it every day. As pod pet tariff, I give you my dog Poppy and our cats. Poppy was a pandemic pound puppy and is a mix of three breeds. The cat, Mr. Crowley, will not leave her alone. While we worry coyotes may get him. He is thriving in New Mexico. The other cat is Kaiser. Kaiser Soze, AKA Fato Catto or Kai. Kai. He's hitting the nip in this pic.
